Entering the barn, the scent of hay and horses hit Lucas’ nostrils in full force. It was a smell he had missed over the past six months. He hadn’t been able to get to a barn since he had come to work in America, needing to move around to a few different restaurants, until finally settling in at Providence. And, since he had left his own gelding, Arnie, back in Australia, not able to afford to transport him over as well as pay for his own ticket and visa, so, he hadn’t really had much reason to be at a stable.
He pushed his aviators on to the top of his head; he didn’t need them in the dimmer light of the barn, as opposed to the sunny heat outside. Not that he found it particularly hot, the weather was regularly this warm, or hotter, back home, and six months here hadn’t made him the slightest bit sensitive to the heat. Lucas hadn’t been able to find the owner of Crossfire, one Carlee Peters, so he had decided that he’d just take a better look around anyways.
He wandered up the aisle, hands in his jean pockets, eyes roving around his surroundings, taking everything in. It looked well kept, which was a bonus, he’d been to a few barns that weren’t maintained well, which usually proved disastrous for both horse and rider. A few more moments of walking, and he stopped outside a stall containing a horse, that had pushed its head over the stall door when he had approached, reaching out to him in search of attention.
“Hey gorgeous,” he murmured, reaching out and stroking the horse’s nose. Luckily for the animal, this was one of the rare occasions where he didn’t act like a complete and utter asshole.

The day had started early, earlier than she had intended it actually. She beat her alarm clock by over an hour though had taken the time to run 20 extra minutes at the gym, her shower had been longer and her breakfast much more leisurely. This whole early thing was actually a nice change, though it did involve a lot of work and actually mornings weren’t her favourite things to start with. This was morning five in town, she had spent the first few days unpacking, sorting things out and taking a look around the town. She had set herself up with her house and stuff, the horses had been first priority and now she just really needed a job. She had saved up enough money to last a few months just in case no work came but realistically she was hoping to be working within the week. She wasn’t going to be picky, she wasn’t going to turn down any real opportunity she wasn’t exactly above a lower end job; it wasn’t like she had a degree, oh that was not something she was wanting to think about right now. She had already had one conversation with her folks, she had lied her ass off and was pretty certain she was now going to hell. Oh well she was hoping this little adventure she called her life would turn out to be way worth it. Now as she was pulling up to the barn in her pick-up she realized she was pretty much on time, huh funny how something could come from such an early morning. She didn’t want to consider waking up at such an hour again but she did have to admit it was nice and all. She jumped smoothly down from the truck pumas on her feet and jeans on her legs she wasn’t exactly ready to ride but had left her boots in her tack trunk yesterday. Hair was wavy and long, she had let it down today but held back her bangs with a silver headband. As she strode to the barn her shoulders were back and her short frame seemed to grow, she was confident here and didn’t worry about what she looked like as her horses didn’t exactly give a crap.
Through the door she strode, man it was warm even this early however she would have time to get both horses worked before it became to unbearable, besides sometimes riding Jam when it was warmer made him easier to deal with. Down the aisle way she strode, surprised to see someone petting miss Gia. She wasn’t usually a horse to beg or demand attention, she was pretty a very pretty and well bred mare but a simple bay and didn’t look like much in her stall. Huh, oh well. She approached smiling, petting Jam on the way bye to avoid him having a fit though she stayed true to her course, she came up before the man. Her smile was simple, her stance not threatening and her words welcoming and kind.
Hey there, hope she wasn’t bothering you or anything she isn’t usually the one to make a fuss.
Almost on cue the chestnut horse kicked at something in his stall, she rolled her eyes. Looking to the man she was still smiling, not exactly certain what else to say she enjoyed the silence for a moment. Looked to the bay mare who was basking in the attention, she smirked. Gia was the silent type, she still loved being paid attention too and Madison was willing to admit that sometimes the mare got short changed on her time and attention, especially at shows. Being the good horse wasn’t always easy actually sometimes it made things a little more difficult but the mare always stepped up to the challenge, only a few moments had passed since Madison last spoke but she couldn’t help herself.
Haven’t seen you around before, my names Madison it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Lucas continued on with this for a good few minutes, the bay mare seemed to be enjoying it, and he didn’t have anywhere else he really needed to be all day. His mother had always joked that he showed more affection towards animals than he did his own species, and it was probably true. Well, he did show a certain level, but it was a rare occurrence, unless you were family. But then again, horses and dogs didn’t seem to let you down, people on the other hand...not that he was exactly the nicest person to be around most of the time.
He didn’t hear Madison’s footsteps at first, too engrossed in his thoughts and paying attention to the mare, until she had walked up right next to him. His stance instantly changed, dropping his hand from the mare, hands sitting back in his jeans pockets, reverting back into his normal, arrogant self.
“Hey,” he returned her greeting, a slight smirk creeping across his features. He looked back at the mare as she continued speaking, shrugging with what came across as indifference. “Nothing to worry about, I’m not going to turn away the affections of a pretty lady,” he answered, his smirk widening a little as he turned his gaze back to the woman in front of him.
He arched his eyebrows a little in amusement at how quickly she had started speaking again, almost as if she couldn’t help herself but to speak more. “Lucas,” he returned the introduction, pulling one hand out of his pocket, pulling his aviators from his head, and running one hand through his hair. “First time I’ve been here, I was looking for the owner, but it seems I can’t find her anywhere,” he continued, fingers playing idly with the pair of glasses, watching her.

The mare was easy to be around, she enjoyed the attention but didn’t beg like the gelding next door did. She was relaxed and less than worried when the attention suddenly stopped, Madi smirked at the mare she was so attached to the horse it was nuts. Standing before the man Madison continued to smile, she noted the fact that in her presence he seemed to cease affection for the horse. Well it wasn’t exactly her business but it wasn’t exactly the normal response, he didn’t need to be ashamed to be found petting the horse. She took note of it but didn’t exactly dote over it the man seemed friendly enough otherwise, his expression was polite. His tone was polite enough, she even chuckled a little at his remark. The mare was certainly something to look at, she had proven herself in the show ring and as a broodmare as well. It was ironic to Madison that the well behaved and consistently simple horse was the secret from her parents, and the chestnut devil housed next door was bought for her by them. Madi was constantly amazed by the gelding and how he came up with new tricks, things were never the same with him always keeping her on her toes but she was still smitten by the stinker. She was brought back to the presence her mind mulled over a few things before her tone hit the air, well mannered and in good humour.
Well then Gia is in fine shape, she wouldn’t let you know but she loves every second of it.
It was the truth, the mare was the silent keep to herself type and it didn’t bother Madison at all, after dealing with jam daily it was more than nice to have a horse who made things not complicated. Now as she looked to the man before her she wondered if he was of the similar sort, he stood withdrawn from the mare who didn’t seem to mind the sudden lack of attention. His hand in his pocket Madison smirked, it was an interesting reaction. I mean petting random peoples horses was sometimes troublesome but it was evident that Madi didn’t remind yet the man, Lucas apparently didn’t look like he was planning on resuming the affection any time soon. Fine each to his own she thought, it was just an interesting trait she noted and would most certainly remember. As he pulled his glasses from his head she noted again something, his reaction to hold something or have something in his hands. Perhaps it wasn’t consistent or maybe it just happened to be a coincidence but it was almost like her desire to talk, in a potentially awkward situation Madison took to talking in an effort to avoid a potentially weird situation. Perhaps it wasn’t her best trait, and she expected him to judge her it was pretty much human nature. Not really caring what this stranger thought of her she dared to speak again.
Huh, well welcome! If I had been here more than a week I might be able to help you find the owner, but unfortunately I have absolutely no idea where she might be; well besides the office.

Perhaps Lucas only acted like a normal human being around animals, because it never meant having to admit that you needed people, and any sign of weakness you showed to them, wouldn’t be judged, and used against you at a later date. The mare had been affectionate, though she didn’t seem fussed when he ceased giving her attention, it was the sort of nature he enjoyed in a horse, or any sort of animal really, it reminded him of himself, really. He could function without attention, though he loved it when it did come his way, whether it be good or bad, or just a whole heap of drama (something that seemed to follow him like the plague, really).
The young woman who had started speaking to him looked a little surprised as he lowered his hand, and he wasn’t afraid to say it didn’t surprise him. Most people wouldn’t have stopped, he knew this, but he was an exception. He barely even showed affection in public to people he knew, he either just didn’t like public displays of the stuff, or he just didn’t want his devil-may-care attitude to be tarnished by the fact that he would quite happily sit there and sweet talk a horse, or human, for that matter.
He let out a slight chuckle. He could see her studying his movements, watching the cogs turn in her brain as she analysed his actions. “Well, that’s too bad then,” he answered, when Madison said that she had no idea where Carlee could be, only being new herself. He could feel his...well, asshole...persona attempting to break through the more subdued facade he was currently displaying, it was only a matter of time before something slipped out of his mouth, whether he started flirting, or made a snide remark at something she said. He just couldn’t help himself.
“I don’t think I caught your name, actually. I’m Lucas,” he said, extending the hand that he had previously had in his pocket to her.

Her stance was simple, relaxed and at ease. Madison wasn’t concerned or nervous of the situation, her smile was correctly reflecting her mood which wasn’t always the case. The mare was a simple distraction; Madison watched her as she spun around in her stall and searched the back corner for strands of hay. The simple activeness of the mare could amuse Madison for a little while, though the man before her was certainly a big help. Standing there watching the mare with him next to her made it perhaps less odd that she was able to stand and watch the horse so simply. The silence between the two was simple she wasn’t worried about his views on her, he was thus far still an un-named stranger. She did enjoy making good impressions, meeting new friends and people was something she had proven good at in the past though for some reason she wasn’t quite as concerned about this particular meeting. His words hit the air once more, she turned her head to look at him still smiling though perhaps it was slightly evident he had caught her slightly off guard and distracted. She wasn’t exactly embarrassed, maybe a little sheepish but not overly upset with herself or worried. She found heself distracted lots lately, it was usually something to do with the constant but apparently nececairy lies. Sometime she considered going back and putting herself right back where her parents had left her, though it usually didn’t take long for her to realize she was enjoying the freedom her rebellious behaviour had brought on. Her voice was mannered, apologetic almost.
Sorry I couldn’t be much more help.
Her face was apologetic, she really wished she could be more useful heck all she knew was she had wasted both of their time, it wasn’t something she was prone to doing. She had purpose and usually wasn’t the kind to waste too much time, she was a fan of conversation but she had interrupted the stranger and felt that perhaps he found it slightly agitating, now she was just waiting for him to walk away to go find whoever he was looking for and she would go about her morning as pre-planned. When he spoke again, this time asking her name she was a little confused. She didn’t let the man see this confusion it was something she had learned to do well. Instead she kept on smiling, paused for a moment and restated her name with a smile and returning the handshake.
I’m Madison, it’s a pleasure to meet you Lucas.
She didn’t get to let her hand fall completely to her side before her phone started to ring, it was a standard tone that meant her parents. Shit she had already ignored all their calls this morning she really couldn’t manage to ignore this one too. Her face faltered for a moment, the look a mixture of anger and fear. She hated talking to them these days worse than ever, she looked up to the stranger looked at him apologetically. Her tone was kind though not quite right, slightly off she hoped perhaps he wouldn’t pick it up.
Hey sorry I have to take this, it will only take a second though.
She answered the phone and was silent for a moment, taking a step back she didn’t need him to hear her mothers sharp and acusitive tone. She sighed and continued to listen for a second, her response was well poised not angry but with point and a convincing tone of course.
Look mom I’m sorry, been cramming for a big test coming up. Yes things are fine, the dorm is still fine and I don’t mind sharing with someone at all. Look mom I’m in a rush, on my way to a lecture I will call you later tonight I’m already running late!
With that she hung up the phone and looked over to Lucas slightly embarrassed, she looked from the ground up to his face not really certain what to say, she didn’t really know what exactly could explain that little tid bit of family affairs. Instead she just smiled and took a step back towards him and her horses stall and muttered yet another apology.
umm sorry about that.

“It’s fine, I’m not stressed. I have all week to find her,” Lucas replied, flashing Madison an easy grin. He tossed up between leasing one of the stables horses, or buying one...then again, he would be working a lot, maybe buying a horse wouldn’t be such a good idea. At least, if he leased one, it would still be getting exercised when he couldn’t ride it himself...something that it wouldn’t if he ended up buying one. It wouldn’t help if he decided to move back to Australia at some point either. He’d already left a horse behind there, maybe he’d end up having him transported over in the future.
He realised his thoughts were wandering, and turned his attention back to Madison. She was watching the mare, seemingly quite content doing so. She turned back when he introduced himself, looking a bit confused. Probably had thought that he would continue on his way...he had to talk to people at some point, so he didn’t see the harm of having a conversation with her now. He was a fairly sociable person, and it would only be a matter of time before he found himself spiralling down into an angsty, irritable git (well, more of a git than he normally was) if he didn’t make at least some friends. Not that he was good at that, he tended to piss people off too much.
She accepted the hand he offered to her, shaking it briefly. “It’s good to meet you too...” he started, voice trailing off as her phone began to ring. He nodded as she said she had to take it, half turning his attention back to the barn aisle as he waited for her to finish her phone call. He was observing the layout of the barn a little closer, half listening to her conversation... “Look mom I’m in a rush, on my way to a lecture I will call you later tonight I’m already running late!” he heard her say, and he couldn’t help but chuckle, keeping it almost inaudible so her mother wouldn’t hear it from her side of the phone.
“Lying to the parents, I like that,” he turned back to her, an amused grin on his face.

she was embarrassed by how many times she found herself apologizing. Hell she wasn’t really that sorry i mean a sincere apology wasn’t exactly in call here, she had her limitations and the amount of sorries she had just handed out should do her for the next few days, she really needed to cap these things. She didn’t want the whole world knowing she was a big softie underneath, she didn’t need the general population thinking she was the kind to always apologize. Even though she usually was, Madison hoped she might manage to get herself a bit of a rep the kind that warned not to mess with her too much. She didn’t want to come off as a bitch or anything, hell she wasn’t stuck up and she didn’t want people thinking that either. Frustration flared through her mind, she was upset with herself as to how much she was letting the possibilities of what other people thought influence her behaviour. She drew in another few breathes of the silence and forced herself to drop it, to forget and stop worrying people were going to think what they wanted it was a little late to change minds, especially Lucas’s here. She smirked to him, glad he wasn’t in a huge hurry, pressure and stress never did help anyone much which was ironic because the amount she managed to put on herself was enough to drive her insane some days and here she was preaching mentally to others to relax and enjoy – dear god she needed to get out of her own head! Madison nodded to the boy, letting her words flow again this time she wasn’t apologizing for anything.
Well that’s good then, if I see her I will send her your way.
Well if she remembered, it would be rude not to but sometimes simple things slipped the girls mind. Simple things like apologizing a million times, like names and faces. Hell some days she would forget her head if it wasn’t attached to the rest of her – oh the way her cheesy mental notes amused her. Hell if anyone could hear her thoughts they would certainly classify her as crazy, or something of the sort – but she didn’t care, well she forced herself not to as there wasn’t much else she could do. Looking to Lucas she kept her smile on, hell he didn’t need to think anything else of her, she had just lied her ass off on the phone – he wasn’t stupid she only hoped he wouldn’t judge her – again with the hoping other people thought good of her – well it was only natural of course. She couldn’t help but wanting to be liked, oh well it was sort of late now. Instead she just let her mind go, well with some direction. She listened to him carefully, his amused look made her chuckle lightly. Oh yes the lying, well it had gotten much easier as time passed, she didn’t find herself choking on the words or feeling horrible about it later. It had taken a few nights of a few to many drinks before she could look at herself in the mirror without feeling ashamed. She had now convinced herself it was in her best interest, it was what she wanted and what she had chosen which despite her parents desperate efforts to convince her otherwise was what her life she should be about. She wasn’t up for being her mothers pagent doll or her fathers constant office girl, she was really hoping to do things her own way. Uncertain if Lucas was laughing at her, the idea or the fact that she was lying she took a chance and spoke her mind, no more apologies.
It’s sad but a part of me loves it too. Well it’s a lot easier than it used to be, hope that doesn’t make me a bad person or anything. I am just done doing things their way.
It made her feel like a rebellious teen, smoking just to spite her parents or something but in all honesty she was just sick and tired of being what they wanted, she was quite tempted to tell them to fuck off but she really didn’t have the heart. Instead she would drink away the girl she used to be a little at a time, it probably wouldn’t last too long – this whole lying game, she really would tell them sooner than later or they would find out some other way.

“You apologise far too much. It’s not very becoming,” Lucas half blurted out, as usual, the filter between his brain and his mouth not working quickly enough to stop him from saying something that could potentially piss someone off enough...it was also something that had earned him a few good slaps in the faces as well. Lucas wasn’t the type to care what people thought of him, or how they would react to whatever he did or said to them, god, he never even apologised, even if he knew he was in the wrong. So, he only looked at her calmly, as he folded his aviators, looping them over the top of one of his jean pockets.
He smirked a little, surprised at her answer. “Fair enough,” he answered, running a hand through his blonde-brown hair. He guess he had his parents to thank for his views on life, they pretty much didn’t try to shape their kids, of course, they did discipline them and try to teach them right for wrong, like any good parent should, but they let them become their own people, follow their own paths in life...even if he did turn out an ass at the end of it.
“Doesn’t make you a bad person, it just makes you human,” he said, shrugging slightly.

his words would have cut like a knife, if she had cared – that was if she had let herself care. she just smirked, she was aware of her flaws though she wasn’t exactly used to having them shoved back at her so blunty. When your father and mother were important influential people in society you didn’t often get to hear the honesty people liked to lock down deep, the words people usually tried to bite back. Now either Lucas had made a mistake, was just straight up like that or trying to be a dick. She really had no clue what one it was, he remained pretty calm didn’t seem to set anything off in him so perhaps this was the way the guy functioned. Sure fair enough, he had delt with her compulsive apologising so she would have no choice but to put up with his suddenly blunt outlook on people and their flaws, her words were smooth, slightly coated but just enough to seem natural of course. she wasn’t bothered by having someone tell her straight up what they thought of her, especially not her flaws it was sort of refreshing. Like a bucket of ice water on an unsuspecting poolside tanner in august, shocking but appreciated deep down.
You could tell me something I don’t know, than I would be really impressed.
She smirked at him again, she wasn’t bothered by his, well whatever it was. He didn’t exactly intimidate her, neither had he charmed her out of her brain. Well he wasn’t ugly or anything, she had noticed his looks as well it was hard not to, though she knew better than to fall for a pretty face no matter what society tried to tell you about them. She kept her mind and feet firmly planted on the ground, she wasn’t going to be swayed by anything he said or did within the first meeting. I mean who knows what his words might do to her down the road, perhaps the very sound of his voice would repulse the girl and inspire her to run into busy streets or maybe perhaps he will remind her of her mother and father which would result in a similar reaction. She could only hope that they might get a chance at friendship, but who knew perhaps Lucas was above girls who apologized too much, maybe it was a major turnoff or something but then again he was still standing there. No matter what he left her thinking Madison wasn’t going to be concerned, it was her new outlook on life after all. She heard him speak again and continued to wear her pleasant smile, of course taking note of the way he pushed his hand through his hair. Her hands had migrated to her back pockets, they were resting their quite comfortably. Her whole frame was quite content to stay put, though in fear of becoming a living statue she shifted her weight from one hip to the other – all the while remaining relaxed and comfortable, waiting to see what he had to say next. It was ironic really, he had shot off her flaw like it had to be said, like she needed to be insulted or something then he came back with “it just makes you human” did she get a compliment out of there somewhere? Okay maybe not a compliment but acknowledgment that she was indeed of the human race, oh well excellent work there Sherlock. She chuckled lightly, her words were playing with him though she had no real choice he had pretty much set himself up for this one.
I apologize too much, and my lying to my parents make me human. Sounds like you have me pretty much figured out. Meanwhile all I know about you is that you have about a week to find the owner of this place and your pretty straight up about things, that or they just have a way of slipping out. oh and I think you might be human too.

Lucas’ comment only seemed to earn him a smirk from Madison...which of course, was infinitely less painful than a slap to the face, something he’d earned plenty of times over his twenty-three year life. Perhaps she was a bit more thick skinned than she had seemed at first, before, she had seemed a bit...quiet, though he hadn’t been sure of her confidence levels when he had first started speaking to her. Though after the phone call from her mother, and perhaps his reaction to her lying made her open up a little. “You could tell me something I don’t know, then I would be really impressed,” she said, and he couldn’t help but let out a short, amused laugh.
“I could probably think of something, if I wanted to,” he replied, shifting his weight around into a more relaxed stance, having been holding himself a little stiffly a few moments earlier. “But, I can’t quite tell if you want me to impress you,” he continued, flashing her a cheeky grin. A potentially boring day was turning somewhat interesting. Of course, he had thought that it might when he first saw Madison, like any male would, he did find her attractive, but had been tossing up the idea of possibly flirting with her, wanting to wait and see how she handled him at first, but still hadn’t settled on it yet. So, he settled on something in between harmless conversation and slight flirting, choosing to throw in a few comments to see how she would take them.
“Now that...” he said, facial expression turning serious for a moment “...is a lie. You know my name, so that’s one more thing you can add to the ‘things I know about Lucas list’,” he finished, crossing his arms along his chest, looking at her with eyebrows slightly raised, his interest and amusement evident on his face.
“And, you’re correct in assuming I’m straight up about things. Would you believe me if I told you that I don’t lie?” he said. Most people didn’t, but in fact, he’d never lied in his life. As a child, if he did something, he’d own up to it if someone asked him. Avoiding telling someone something was completely different to lying, which he would do if he really didn’t want to tell something, but if someone asked him outright, he would tell them, even if it would get him in trouble. Even if he was an ass most of the time, at least he still had his integrity.

she was glad he was starting to relax, starting to become more comfortable with her. The feeling was mutual, she managed to relax even more as well her hands slipping from her pockets again and relaxing at her sides. Eyes did wander to the bay mare ever now and again though she often found herself looking at Lucas. Not that she was staring, just making eye contact while still smiling at him. She had been concerned that perhaps the man thought himself better and superior the type of person who looked down and liked to put down, now as he laughed with her she was convinced her initial perception had probably been incorrect. It was easy to listen to him when the conversation became interesting, when it became two sided and had some personality to it. She chuckled along with him and found herself dying to know what he was going to say next, the sentence was simple of course he could, if he really wanted to – was he seriously going to try and get that one over her head. She was a chronic apologizer not overly gullible, she didn’t manage to think of something snappy quickly enough before the man had added to his previous easy to pick on comment. But, I can’t quite tell if you want me to impress you. It took her a moment to process, he relaxed even more as he spoke it. Hmm was he asking permission to flirt with her? No more along the lines of making sure she wouldn’t be offended or hit him or something. Huh, odd. Guys usually just jumped right on the flirting bandwagon, she was used to it and usually more than willing to partake. Hmm, how exactly should she approach this one, the conversation was flowing and the mood was certainly getting better with each word spoken. The day had gone from boring and alone to interesting and dynamic in a matter of minutes, well a few minutes but still. She spoke out again, still playing with him a little bit .
Who doesn’t like to be impressed? Please Lucas, impress away.
She chuckled while smirking at him, now things were starting to get interesting. She hoped she wasn’t coming on to strong, hell she was just having fun with him it was what everything pointed too but men these days seemed to take things to literally, she didn’t see Lucas as the type but hell what did she really know about him? Well it was too late to go back now, and hell she wasn’t apologizing for anything from this point in. She found herself waiting again, waiting almost impatiently to see what the guy came up with, his words were dramatic and she found herself laughing at him. The things I know about Lucas list, oh how it was growing by the second. She crossed her own arms across her chest and arched a brow, though let her own face relax before speaking to him.
Oh shit your right. That changes everything! I know you soo much better than I thought I did.
She rolled her eyes a little, oh the obvious of course he had to play with the obvious, she couldn’t blame him she usually did the same. He was talking again before long, hell now she couldn’t shut the guy up though she did like it better than awkward silence so she wasn’t complaining. She watched him as he spoke, not even aware to other things around them, as she was focused and drawn in by him. His words this time were slightly more serious it was sort of a heads up, and he had told her she was right, always nice t know she had some ability with people and reading them. Never lied, hell he was the type of person to do it if anyone could. She spoke herself, more serious with her own words as well. It was an interesting turn they were taking but hell it worked for her, it was keeping the conversation satisfyingly interesting.
For some odd reason I am inclined to say yes, I do believe you.

He was being nicer than usual. Lucas knew that, though he also knew that it could change at the drop of a hat, he might say something really snarky, that she might take more offense at, or he’d just get tired of playing it nice after a while. He couldn’t help it; he’d always been like that. He wasn’t up himself, that was for sure, he just didn’t believe in sugar coating things, and usually he was just described as plain rude. At least the conversation wasn’t dull, so far, it was beginning to spice up a little, she was more than willing to play along with what he was saying, when a lot would just brush it off or have just gotten pissed off at him already.
“Who doesn’t like to be impressed? Please Lucas, impress away,” she said, and he laughed. Well, now he knew that she was single, and wouldn’t mind if he flirted...at least he had that knowledge that he wasn’t too likely to get himself into hot water if he tried. “I’ll try my best then,” he answered, coupled with a smirk. Hell, he wasn’t going to turn down the chance of a good flirt if it was offered to him; a guy had to have his fun sometimes, right? And if she was okay with it...yeah, he definitely wasn’t going to say no.
At least it was beginning to relax more. The start of their conversation had been a little...well, awkward. He guessed the phone call to her mother had sparked interest with him. It intrigued him, when people had those sort of parental problems...probably because his parents had been pretty fantastic really, in his opinion, so he couldn’t see where a set could stuff up so much that their own children lied to them like that...not that he was going to ask why, he could be a little nosy but not that much. Intriguing was working well for her, however, it was keeping him interested...he, who probably possessed the attention span of a teaspoon.
“So, you know that I’m telling the complete and utter truth when I say I find you extremely attractive, but asking for your number now would probably be moving in too quickly...not that telling you that isn’t moving fast in the slightest,” he said, leaning against the outer wall of the stall, his cocky attitude beginning to show through, especially with the sarcastic tone he gave the last part of his sentence.
