[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #777777 solid 10px; width: 450px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i've been waking all my life taggedAnna/Ish musemreh notesPoor little Blazey creditstemplate by irish! All of his life, Blaze had never really seen himself as the sort of person who could ever be boyfriend material. Maintaining a relationship when you had a reputation like his was an incredibly difficult thing to pull off... especially since he was so secretive about what his life was really like. Everyone knew that the Vaughn family were not to be trusted and generally seen as a part of the "under world" of Addison, but no one really knew what went on behind their closed doors. Really, most people probably didn't want to know, and even if they had an idea of what happened, they were in denial that it could be true. Everyone knew that the lives that the Vaughns lead were far from ideal, but most people wouldn't even want to believe that there could be more to it than met the eye.
So when he'd found himself increasingly close to Anna Sharpe, he hardly knew how to go about it, especially when that increasing closeness started to feel like an actual relationship. Before, the only relationships Blaze had ever had with women were one night stays in the female's bed, usually followed by a hasty retreat before a parent got home or came in. With Anna, though, he found himself wanting to be with her, and not just in bed. He wanted to spend time with her. When he was with her, for a short while, he could forget about everything that went on at home. With her he didn't feel like he had to hide behind his brother's relationship. With her, there was nothing wrong and he could just be his own person, rather than having to live up to the bar that Griffin had set in his short lived high school days. It was refreshing, and before long, he found himself awkwardly asking her if she'd go out with him as more than just friends, and much to his surprise, she said that she would love to.
Of course, for Anna's sake, he'd been trying to stay out of as much trouble as possible, and he'd done fairly decently... up until now. Blaze had been avoiding home for several days now, either crashing on Griffin's couch, or finding somewhere else to stay, but one could only function with the same three pairs of clothing for so long before new ones were needed, so he'd made the dreaded trip home. Unfortunately he didn't time it well. Normally he could get in and get out before his parents came out of their drunken stupors, but that night he'd been unlucky enough to get caught in the act of trying to just grab what he needed and get back out. He almost liked it better when his parents were so drunk that they couldn't even function, because if they were even the tiniest bit sober, they would take it out on him, and that was exactly what had happened.
He was now sporting a lovely black eye with a cut at the end of his eyebrow, an ugly bruise in the middle of his lower arm from attempting to defend himself, an even uglier bruise hidden beneath his shirt on his ribs, and a slight, but noticeable limp, which he was trying his hardest to hide. Anyone who so much as glanced his way was met with a glare, and no one dared to even ask. Most people wouldn't even bother, considering he did have a tendency to get into fights, and everyone generally just assumed that fighting was the method by which he sustained most of his injuries. He trudged down to study hall and slumped into a seat in the back of the room, not sure why he was even here. Most of the time he just skipped school, especially after getting into it with his parents, so he really wasn't too sure why he was still here. With a sigh, he crossed his arms on his desk and leaned forwards so that his forehead was resting on his arms, forgetting that he shared this study hall period with his girlfriend, and absolutely no intentions of doing any studying, which was really nothing new. If he was dedicated to anything, it definitely wasn't schoolwork.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #0b3b2d solid 10px; width: 399px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]we'll make it seem like we have nothing to hide Anna really hadn’t been in that many relationships… firstly, because she was only sixteen and to be honest for a long while she had definitely been more interested in horses than boys, until she got to high school anyway, and that changed a bit, but she also had three older brothers and a last name with a reputation back in their hometown that made most guys she was interested in sprint away, metaphorically speaking, in the opposite direction, or attracted all of the wrong sorts of guys, assuming that she would have the same sort of reputation as her father, and probably more Casey than Ash and Jason. But she definitely didn’t… sure, she had the tendency to be sassy and sarcastic and didn’t give a shit what other people thought about her, and she was perfectly capable of looking after herself, but she had learned long ago that she was nothing like their father, and that she shouldn’t just resign herself to the fact that she should be. It was made slightly harder by the fact that Casey had already gone and made his mark early on in his move to Addison, but she brushed that off as best as she could.
So really, when she had started hanging out with Blaze Vaughn, it had been incredibly easy for her to ignore the whispers about his family, because she knew exactly what it was like. And he honestly didn’t seem all that bad to her. She hadn’t planned on developing a crush on the boy either, when they had first started being friends, but as things progressed between them it happened and then he had asked her out. To which she had said yes, of course, so now she found herself with a boyfriend that she hadn’t planned on having, but she definitely wasn’t complaining about the fact.
It had been a struggle for her to convince herself to actually go to school today, since she had rather stupidly hadn’t gone to bed at a decent hour, then of course had to get up in the early hours of the morning to head out to the barn for morning track workouts… which had been freezing, and extremely frustrating to boot, especially when it came to ponying Casey’s horses out on the track. Run had been in a particularly foul mood today, but thankfully Fly was well versed in the stallion’s moods, and didn’t let him push him or her around and did a good job of looking after her. The middle Sharpe brother still needed to get some semi sane horses anyway, in her opinion. She’d dragged herself to school anyway, wishing that she had made Jason stop at the coffee shop so she could get some coffee on the way but it was too late for that now.
Walking into study hall, it didn’t take her long to spot Blaze at the back of the room, even though he was sitting with his head and arms on the desk so it was a little hard to spot him, automatically weaving her way through the desks and people already in the classroom to get to the empty desk next to his. On approach she couldn’t help but notice the bruise on his arm, although with the way he was sitting right now it was harder to see anything else, but it was enough to cause her concern. Dumping her things on the desk next to his, she moved over to his, crouching in front of it, arms crossed along the edge so she could lean on it a little to help keep her balance, resting her chin on her arm as she looked at him, or, well, the top of his head more like it. “Hey, what happened?” she asked, her tone in no way implying that she was prying, or demanding that he tell her, just that she was concerned.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #777777 solid 10px; width: 450px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i've been waking all my life taggedAnna/Ish musemreh notesPoor little Blazey creditstemplate by irish! Blaze hadn't been sitting in this way for very long but he was so incredibly worn out from everything that he had sort of almost already halfway dozed off. He'd not slept much, understandably, and so long as he had nothing better to do he figured he might as well catch up on some much needed sleep. He jumped slightly when he heard Anna's voice from right in front of him, and lifted his head from his arms to look at her, forgetting that his face bore the evidence of what had happened last night. It took him a moment to register what she'd asked, but when it did register, he realized he'd not thought up a decent excuse to give her. Normally, no one asked him what had happened. Griffin already knew, and he was really the only one before Anna who had ever really cared.
He didn't say anything for a moment, glancing down to the bruise on his arm then back to her. "Just some jackass." he said after a moment, hoping she would just go with the assumption that "just some jackass" meant that he'd gotten into a fight with someone, which, technically, he had. He wasn't really lying. His dad really was a jackass, and it had sort of been a fight... though largely one sided. Blaze wasn't entirely sure why, but he never really had fought back when his dad beat him. It was probably because his life had been that way since he could remember, and he'd been much too young to fight back when it started. By the time he was old enough to do so, he had become so used to it that it simply wasn't a natural thing to do. They were his parents after all, and as much as they wronged him, he just couldn't bring himself to return the favor.
"I'm fine though." He added after a brief pause. "Fine" wasn't really a word that accurately described his current condition. He was in pain, and plenty of it... but he'd grown so used to pain over the years that it wasn't really something that he couldn't handle. One of the things he liked best about Anna was that she hadn't ever mentioned his family. He sort of wondered if it was because she wasn't from here and hadn't heard all the rumors and stories. She'd probably heard some, but the number of whispers around town about the Vaughns was rather immense. Then again, she'd not pried about anything at all really, which was entirely unusual. It was entirely possible that she just didn't care, and if that was the case, then he definitely liked that about her. He wasn't sure exactly why he'd decided to commit to a real relationship with her, but he wasn't going to question it.

it's hard to know where you're going [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 0b0b0b; width: 399px; padding: 5 5 5 5px; border-bottom: 12px solid #0b3b2d; border-top: 12px solid #0b3b2d;]when you don't know where to start He seemed to startle a little when she spoke, but that didn’t really surprise her, it looked like he had been half asleep sitting there, so she had probably woken him up. She pursed her lips to stop herself from grimacing at the evidence of the beating her had gone through on his face, that was easy to see now that he had lifted his head to look at her, wishing that there was something she could do about it, but right now that was really an impossibility, and she had already figured out long ago that he wasn’t the sort of guy who liked coddling or a lot of attention, although then again she wasn’t the sort of girl who did that sort of thing either, but in these situations it was a little different.
She wasn’t quite sure if she believed him when he said it was some random person who had given him the bruises, not with the way in which he had told her, and his hesitation beforehand… but if he didn’t want to tell her she wouldn’t push it, because right now she wasn’t in the mood to fight with anyone and he didn’t look like he was either. So she just bit back a sigh, nodding when he said that he was fine. “Maybe you should go to the nurse and get some ice for your eye though,” she said, standing up a little straighter from her crouched position to lean over the desk to plant a light kiss on the side of his face that wasn’t all beaten up. Then again, the nurse would probably ask questions, and then he would have to answer them… maybe it wasn’t such the best idea then.
“Or we can get out of here if you want… my brother’s out of town for a race meet so he won’t know,” she suggested after a moment. He really didn’t look like he was in much of a fit state for school today… and well, it wasn’t like she had skipped at all lately so if Ash did find out and complain she would point that out. Then again, the only people who would possibly find out probably wouldn’t tell him anyway, so it wasn’t much of a problem. And if the school happened to ring him and he called her… she’d just tell him that she was sick or something. Homeroom hadn’t begun yet so they would be able to slip out fairly unnoticed as well, if anything. jess | 420 | outfit | ash does not approve |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #777777 solid 10px; width: 450px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i've been waking all my life taggedAnna/Ish musemreh notesPoor little Blazey creditstemplate by irish! Blaze really did appreciate that she didn't coddle him and press for what had happened. He would honestly not be able to tell her what had happened right now. Maybe another place, maybe another time, maybe once he knew her more... trusted her more... but right now, he just couldn't tell her. He'd been hiding what went on in his home for as long as he could remember. His earliest memory of lying about his home life was as a five year old when the abuse lead to a broken arm which 10-year-old Griffin brought him to a free clinic (which was really meant for illness, not so much injury) a few days later. They asked what happened, he told them he fell down the steps in the park. Lying came naturally. He didn't even have to think about it, and that was why they believed him.
When Anna suggested that he go see the nurse for ice, the idea of it was tempting... incredibly tempting, but he couldn't, so he just shook his head. It wasn't because he expected the nurse to ask questions or pry into his life. No, he knew that she wouldn't. What made him not want to go to her was because she wouldn't ask, but her motivations behind not prying were completely different from Anna's. She wouldn't pry because she cared. The nurse wouldn't pry because she, like everyone else, had already come to the conclusion that Vaughns were no good and that it was because he'd gone and gotten himself into trouble. He didn't want to go to her because he didn't want to have to face the judgmental glare he knew she would focus on him. He got enough of that from his classmates and his parents, the fewer people who saw him like this the better.
Then when she suggested that they leave, he couldn't help the look of surprise that crossed his face. "Can we?" He asked, sounding as surprised as he looked. Blaze wasn't one to ask permission to do things, or to not do things because they weren't supposed to, but he hadn't thought that Anna would actually skip school, at least not for his sake. He was just not accustomed to anyone caring enough to drop everything for him. "I mean... are you sure you want to do that? I don't want you to get in trouble for me..." As much as Blaze would have liked to be like Griffin, he just couldn't be. He was far less selfless than Griffin was. He was torn between living up to the reputation his family had made for him and trying to live a normal life. He didn't want to hurt people, especially not Anna, and he definitely didn't want her to get into any trouble on his account, but if she was absolutely sure that she wanted to skip school, he had no objections.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]She nodded when he asked if they really could leave. He looked surprised that she had even offered, but then again, lately she had been on her best behaviour so it wasn’t like he had seen too much of the side of her that was okay with bending the rules a bit – of course, she never did anything really out of line, and she didn’t count skipping a day of school as really out of line, to be honest Ash probably wouldn’t even be incredibly upset about it if he did find out, since it could have been so much worse – so she really didn’t blame him for being surprised about it.
“If I didn’t want to I wouldn’t have offered to, trust me,” she told him. “I really don’t mind. I want to do it.” Hopefully it would be enough to convince him that she really didn’t mind skipping school with him for the day. And really, if they stayed, with the way he was now, she wouldn’t be able to help but worry about him a bit more, since he really didn’t seem like he was up for school today. And really, wouldn’t it be better to take a day off after this kind of thing than have to suffer through class all day?
“And I won’t get into trouble for it, I promise. But it’s up to you,” she said, standing up straight now and looking down at Blaze, waiting for him to decide what he wanted to do. Well, she wasn’t exactly the sort of person who pushed people into doing something that they didn’t want to do, she hated people doing it to her so she certainly wasn’t going to do it to him. She’d seen too many girls who pushed their boyfriends around like that before, and she certainly didn’t plan on becoming one of them. - - - - - - - - - - don't write yourself off yet it's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on, just try your best, try everything you can and don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away, it just takes some time, little girl, you're in the middle of the ride, everything, everything will be just fine |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #777777 solid 10px; width: 450px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]Even if we're dancing in the dark taggedAnna/Ish musemreh notesPoor little Blazey creditstemplate by irish! For the longest while, especially since around the time he entered eighth grade, Blaze had never felt like he could maybe eventually end up with someone. Looking at his family's history, they didn't have a good track record of actually every staying with their "significant other" for obvious reasons. There was so much turmoil in their lives that it made it hard to stick around. The problem was that they always married into their own "kind." People with problems marrying people with problems. It wasn't a recipe for success, and Blaze had always thought that there couldn't be anything out there for him except more people with problems. Sure he knew that everyone had some sort of downfall, but he didn't want to end up like his parents, stuck with someone they only tolerated.
Because of this, he'd never really been on the lookout for girlfriends. He just figured it would be better to end up alone than like his parents. That changed, though, when he was nearly molested by Griffin's apparent girlfriend early one morning, which is a long story for another time. What mattered is that when he met her, as awkward as it had been, he realized that if Griffin could make a girlfriend out of one of the wealthiest people in Addison, then there was no reason why Blaze couldn't make a girlfriend out of a normal person. Then Anna walked in. There was no tunnel vision or randomly magical wind blowing through the hallways or any of that, and he couldn't even say he took an immediate liking to her... but she grew on him in a way that no one ever had.
"Okay," He said sliding out of his seat and standing up, "Lets go." Once he was out of his seat, he reached across and picked up Anna's book bag and the text book on her desk without really even thinking about it. Despite everything, Blaze somehow managed to learn manners and kindness. There was no one in his family who could have taught him that, but it just came naturally to him. He always had trouble in school and rarely passed even when he did try, so he had given up trying and he had nothing to carry with him, so he wasn't going to make Anna carry everything she had and let himself off foot loose and fancy free. He winced just a little as her bag came in contact with his battered and bruised side, but he didn't want Anna to worry so he just pushed the pain into the bak of his head and focused on other things.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]Dating wasn’t something that Anna did a whole lot of. Sure, she’d had boyfriends before, and it wasn’t like it was due to a lack of interest in her… she’d had guys ask her about before she moved here, but most of the ones who had knew of her brothers and that usually meant that she didn’t want anything to do with them, bar the few that she knew were decent. Some Casey had pissed off or something of the like and what better way to get back at him than date his little sister? Not that they ever got that far, she could spot them a mile away. And there hadn’t really been anyone when she had moved to Addison, besides Brody, but that had never really amounted to anything and the boy had gone back to Ireland. And now there was Blaze.
“You don’t have to carry everything, you know,” she told him pointedly, as he picked up her things and they started back towards the door to their homeroom room and back towards the school’s entrance to leave, nobody really seeming to notice that they were heading in the opposite direction to what they really should have been, nobody ever really seemed to take notice of anything else going on around them unless it directly involved them. Not that she was complaining that much about him wanting to carry her things but she wasn’t one of those girls who expected it either, that was the last kind of girlfriend she wanted to turn into. Not to mention she caught the slight wince when he did pick everything up, and after seeing his bruises it really didn’t surprise her that he was still in pain, but again, she didn’t want to push it.
She looked over at him as they started walking to Ash’s. “I can’t promise there will actually be much interesting to do there but… it’s better than being stuck at school all day anyway,” she told him, realising that she probably should text Jason and let him know that she didn’t need a ride home from school at the end of the day, but she figured that she would do that when they had arrived, so she was well away from school at the time and he wouldn’t be able to leave and go find her.

There were a lot of reasons for a guy to like a particular girl. For some it was because she was pretty, for others it was her personality. Then there were the ones who liked a girl for her money, and others still who liked a girl for her loose morals. But that wasn't why Blaze liked Anna. Sure, she was beautiful and she had a wonderful personality. But that wasn't his reason. Blaze liked Anna because of everyone at this school, she was one of very few who would even stop to give him the time of day. Blaze had never expected popularity or even having a lot of friends, but as much as he had pretended he didn't mind being a loner, it wore on him after a while. He'd been cursed with his last name, and a lot of days he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if he had been born into a different family... a normal family. Would people actually notice him or would he still just be a fly on the wall?
He just smiled down at Anna when she said he didn't have to carry everything. "I know," He said as they left the room together, "But it's not as if I have anything to carry anyway." Since having given up on school, Blaze had shrugged it off as just being that he didn't care about school, but he really did wonder. Why was it that he struggled so much and failed so miserably when everyone else just flew through it like there was nothing to it. He knew he wasn't even close to the smartest kid in the class, but most days he felt like he could very easily bee the least smart. Why else did he have such a hard time? It had gone on this way for so long that he hardly even noticed anymore really. Failing marks was just a normal part of his life... failing at everything seemed to be a normal part of his life... until Anna anyway.
"I'm pretty sure that anything qualifies as better than school." He said in response, shifting the book in his hand over to the other side and sliding his arm around Anna's waist as they walked, "Almost anything anyway." He added, not realizing he'd even said it. he'd intended really to just think it as an afterthought and not actually say it. "I mean I'd probably take school over being skinned alive or drawn and quartered." By the time he'd finished that sentence he realized he wasn't making it any better and decided he should really just stop talking. School was indeed better than his life at home, he figured that was really the only reason he even went anymore. What little social interaction he got at school was better than the rage he faced every time he walked through his front door.

And right now it felt like the sooner they got out of the school the better, to lessen the likelihood of them getting caught and so that he could get out of here.
When he wrapped his arm around her waist as they walked, she wrapped the arm closest to him around his as well, being careful when she did so, since she didn’t know whether or not he had any other injuries around his torso and the last thing she wanted to do was cause him any more pain than he was probably already in. “I’d tend to agree with you on that one,” she answered, with another grin. She didn’t mind school that much, although really she would rather not have to go through it, just because she wasn’t the sort of person who enjoyed sitting around in a classroom listening to someone talk all day, which was what school was basically all about. Not to mention that she wasn’t into all of the drama and things that typically went around high schools.
“Eh, I don’t know… that might actually be preferable to history lessons now that Mr Greenfield’s left… although not by much,” she replied jokingly, laughing as she spoke. Well, it definitely was preferable when they actually had a teacher who made the lessons somewhat interesting, it made sitting there a lot easier to do. Unfortunately, the man they had gotten to replace the school’s old history teacher was far from fun in any way.
It didn’t take them too long to walk to Ash’s house, thankfully with no cars sitting in the driveway when they arrived, which meant that they were home alone like she had expected it would be. It was just easier that way, less having to answer questions about why they both weren’t at school, especially since she didn’t know what exactly had happened to him, it wouldn’t be easy to answer. Not that her brothers could really talk if he’d gotten into a fight or something of the sort, considering their track records. Unlocking the door and letting them in, she turned back to Blaze, holding out her hands so he could give her back her bag and book so she could put them away. “Do you want anything?” she asked. might work out in the end, come join the fight, so we can change the way we’re living, what’s left inside? if you believe, believe you’ll never give in, come join the fight, turn away and you’ll be sure to lose it, hold onto those dreams they’re the one thing they can’t take away now |
