The five mile run in the crisp morning air was enough to wake Brantley up. He was clad in baggy sweatpants and a white vneck tshirt with running shoes. Since she had taken his car last night, Brantley had no choice but to run to the barn to get it. He had tried his very best to forget the events of last night, but somehow they still clouded his brain. Especially since Nevaeh had come and kissed him before driving off. It was a deep, tender kiss that lasted a lot longer than they both expected. It was bittersweet..Brantley had savored that kiss, knowing that he would never see her again. In reality, he wanted it that way. It was better if they weren't in eachother's life. Clearly, they did not get along well at all. Brantley had tried, but he knew it would never work out.
As he approached the barn, Brantley could seee his Charger sitting in the vacant parking lot. He was wet with sweat as he slowed to a walk and tried to catch his breath. Brantley was in good shape, but five miles was tough to run when he was running off of three hours of sleep. He just wanted to get in the car and drive home. Shooter could wait for tomorrow to be ridden. Brantley needed to recuperate after an exhausting night. He wiped the back of his hand across his brow and raised his shirt up to wipe the sweat from his neck. He took a gulp from the water bottle in his hand and by then he was at the car. He leaned against it warily and pulled at the handle quickly, only to find that it was locked. He sighed loudly and ducked his head down slowly. Upon peeking inside, Brantley leaped back from the car, a half yell escaping his lips. He covered his mouth quickly and lowered himself back to the car. The initial shock was from the fact that someone was in his car. However, once he noted that it was Nevaeh, his heart stopped. What the hell was she doing in his car? Did she sleep there?
Brantley ran a frustrated hand through his sandy hair and shook his head. He didn't want to see her again, and just when he came to grips with the fact...there she was...in his car. He punched at the air angrily and quickly collected himself. Maybe if he just waited in the barn she would wake up and leave. Brantley knew that would be the coward thing to do, so he slowly aproached the window and banged his fist on the glass. "Um..Nevaeh?" His voice was dry as he willed her to wake up. This was going to be an awkward encounter. He contemplated just running away, but he had already committed to waking her up.

IF YOU WANNA FLY LIKE PAPER [ g e t h i g h l i k e p l a n e s ] Many things were floating in and out of her head as Nevaeh tossed and turned, unaware of her surroundings as she slowly opened her eyes. She had no idea what time it was, where she was, or how she got to that place. Her hands fumbled for the clock that was usually on the bedside table, turning out to be open air. Moving her head over in the direction, she opened her eyes and found the inside of a car. Whose car, she didn't know. She tried to remember the previous happenings of last night, but her mind went blank. She couldn't even remember how she got from the barn lounge to this car. Looking out the window farthest from her, she found her truck, sitting in the parking lot right next to the one she was in. Hmm, she thought. Weird.
Trying to retrace her steps in her mind, she remembered a guy... Brandon? Bradley? She couldn't put her finger on his name. Trying to forget about it, she closed her sleepy, brown eyes and leaned her head against the window, cool from the night air. It felt good on her throbbing head, so she stayed there for what seemed like thirty seconds, until she heard banging and words coming from the outside of the car. "Um..Nevaeh?" Her head instantly turned to the window, her eyes meeting his as she took in the moment, remembering every last bit. Embarrassment took over, and soon she muttering curse words every other second. Opening the door and stepping out, she shut the car door behind her and started walking to her truck on the other side. That nagging gut feeling inside of her told her to turn around, but she didn't want to listen to it. All of a sudden, it seemed to take total control of her body, turning her around slowly to face him. Brantley. The guy that she probably had the most embarrassing night with. She saw the frustrated look on his face, and she knew exactly what to say. Brushing back her hair, she gave him an agitated look, obviously not wanting to put up with anything that he dished out. "Look, I don't wanna be in this situation just as much as you don't."
The words burned in her throat, but she said them anyways. She didn't care how angry he was; there were a lot of things that needed to be admitted, one of them being her confusion about him. She couldn't love him or be friends with him, so she settled on saying her true thoughts, even if they were painful. Sighing, Nevaeh stood there, frustrated and angry. Many other emotions cluttered her mind, but none of these stood out as much as the angry ones. Biting her lip, the female fumbled through her pockets for her keys, pulling them out and pressing the button to unlock the car. She didn't want to leave... yet she was so angry at him. What was going on, here?

Brantley waited outside the car for a few minutes until he noticed that Nevaeh was beginning to stir. He could see the confusion etched into her beautifully sculpted face as she began to move around, thinking that she was at her own home. He chuckled slightly, wondering if she even remember who he was at all. He didn't remember drinking anything last night, but then again it was all a big blur. Brantley stepped away from the glass when her hand reached out and pushed the door open. He staggered backwards as she blew past him, barely even giving him a second glance. "Look, I don't wanna be in this situation just as much as you don't." The words were like a slap in his face as Brantley raised his eyebrows questioningly. "Whoa. Cool your jets...I didn't say anything." The harshness of her words kind of suprised Brantley. Especially after that goodnight kiss the previous night. He sure as heck hadn't forgot about it, but it seemed that Nevaeh had. It pained him slightly to feel so disposable.
Brantley rolled his eyes as Nevaeh got into her truck. The reminder of why they didn't get along the night before hit him like a ton of bricks. She was a bitch. He hadn't even been rude to her and she still was just flat out icy towards him. He had even let her take his freaking car! Did she realized how expensive that car was? Not like Brantley couldn't afford another one, but still. It was the principle of the matter. He strided towards her truck with a purpose. Brantley saw her small frame sitting in the driver's seat, and waves of anger rolled off of him. He shot her a scowl and yanked open the passenger door with an overabundant amount of force. His dark eyes locked onto hers as the words poured out of his mouth. "You are such a bitch. You're right...this situation could be potentially awkward, but only if you make it awkward. We are both mature adults here...well at least I am. Running away from your problems never gets you anywhere in life, Nevaeh. But, if that's how you want to play," His eyes narrowed as his face neared hers slightly, ",Then game on." With that said, Brantley jumped out of the truck and walked as quickly as his legs would carry him into the barn, but not before slamming the door of her truck angrily.
Brantley made his way into the barn and approached his horses' stalls. The three horses poked their heads over in greeting, but Brantley ignored them altogether. He ran a hand through his hair and muttered a few choice words before kicking over a bucket of brushes, sending utensils scattered across the aisle. He really wanted to just leave, but as long as she was out there, he would be in here. He needed to go find another girl to make up for lost time. Brantley was a male, chauvenistic pig....He would never change.

IF YOU WANNA FLY LIKE PAPER [ g e t h i g h l i k e p l a n e s ] With her own emotions spilling out by the seconds, she couldn't even begin to comprehend the frustration in Brantley's voice as he pulled open the door of her truck, his words stabbing her in the gut. Was that how he really thought about her? A bitch? Nevaeh had been called that many times during her life, but it had never felt so horrible coming from someone she didn't care about. She felt the slight feeling of dampness as a couple of tears started to come, but her anger made them almost disappear as Brantley finished his sentence, slamming the door of her truck and stalking off to the barn. Her heart was pounding and her expression fuming as she watched him walk off. His words were true; running away from your problems never helped anything.
Staring off in the direction of the barn, she soon made up her mind to follow him. It seemed as though she had done that quite a bit last night, but the actions seemed almost involuntary as she jumped out, almost running back to the barn. When she neared the entrance, she slowed down, taking a deep breath before taking in the scene. A bucket of brushes were strewn around an aisle or two down, an obvious sign of Brantley's anger. Plucking up the courage, she walked quietly towards his body, standing in the middle of the same aisle as the brushes. A couple of whinnies gave away her entrance, and more heads popped out of stalls as she neared him. Once she was in earshot, she stopped and just stood there for a few seconds before speaking, her vocals horribly calm and collected. She did need to cool her jets, even if Brantley was having a hard time himself. "You're right. Running away never helped anything.
[/b]" Remembering exactly what he had said, she felt the anger rush to her face, but she tried her hardest to hold it back. She wasn't trying to make friends here, but she at least wanted to end this all on a good note. She could hear her conscience telling her to shoot back remarks, but the look on his face held her back. Did she really want to make him even angrier, if that was even possible? With Brantley, she knew she'd never see the end of it. Despite her thoughts to say more, she held her tongue, intent as to what he would say next. She had a feeling he would misinterpret her words, but she kept her hopes high as she folded and unfolded her hands. Brantley stood in the barn, leaning against the stall door for support. His knees felt weak as he struggled with a surge of emotions. Mostly anger, but a little bit of disappointment was there, too. He didn't know what to expect with Nevaeh, but he sure didn't want it to end like this. She was such a beautiful woman, and it pained Brantley to know that he had caused her so much hurt in the last twenty four hours. The image of her tear stained face was branded into his mind as he leaned his head backwards against the stall door. Shooter lipped at his hair affectionately, and Brantley shrugged away out of frustration. He wasn't mad at Nevaeh. Honestly, he was mad at himself for allowing it to be like this. If only he had done things differently back at his apartment. Then they would be sleeping in his comfy bed together, instead of screaming at eachother in a barn.
Brantley's eyes closed as he stood, trying to calm himself. He couldn't believe half the stuff he just said to her. She probably hated him now. He knew it would be hard to salvage the situation, but a small hope sparked inside of him as he heard footsteps coming towards him. He opened his eyes slowly, Nevaeh's image burned into his brain as she stood before him. Her words felt like a punch in the stomach, and he realized how hypocritical he seemed. He had told her not to run away, and that was exactly what he did. He shook his head and rubbed the back of his neck with his muscular hand. He contemplated on what to say to her and finally managed to get a few words out. "I guess I'm not the best person to be giving advice..." The joke was meant to lighten the mood, but he highly doubted it would take its effect on them. They were past laughing and being all better.
Brantley looked around him at the brushes strewn across the barn floor. He mentally kicked himself, angry that he had let himself lose control. Even though it was a minor thing, it was still not acceptable. He bent down slowly, collecting he brushes one by one. After he had placed them all in their rightful bucket, Brantley stood again and faced Nevaeh. He struggled for the right words, but finally formed them, "Last night, at my apartment...I just wanted you to know that no woman has ever made me...made me so excited for a one night stand...You are beautiful, funny, and smart..Any guy would be lucky to have you." He sounded like a Hallmark card, but he knew that the only way to even remain friends with Nevaeh would be to lay down his pride and be kind for once. His comment wasn't in hopes of getting anything, he simply wanted her to know how he felt about the whole mess.

IF YOU WANNA FLY LIKE PAPER [ g e t h i g h l i k e p l a n e s ]
"I guess I'm not the best person to be giving advice..."
Nevaeh thought about laughing and joking about his reply, but the sincerity of the moment held her back. She gave him a half smile, stepping closer towards him. Once she was within a few feet of him, she stopped and helped him drop the grooming brushes back into their carrying box. God, she didn't want to lose him, even if they weren't together. She was definitley troubled as to knowing what was going to happen to them from this point on, but she certainly hoped it would be a happy ending. Even though the odds of that happening were one in a million, she still held onto that tiny sliver of hope that kept her moving forward.
Once all the brushes were picked up and put away, Nevaeh turned towards Brantley as he spoke, the words stopping her right in her tracks. She was awestrucken; did he really think all of that? A million things came to mind in reply to his statement, but she couldn't bring herself to say the words. Her expression had changed from angry to shocked to expressionless in a matter of a few seconds, and she suddenly felt extremely weak. What was she supposed to say? Taking a deep breath, she instantly wrapped him in her arms, the warmth of his body encircling her as she buried her face into his chest. A smile stayed absent, however, when she released and grabbed his wrist, almost draghing him to the lounge, closing the door behind her. Nevaeh placed him on the couch, intent on giving back what she had taken from him. Slipping off her boots, she threw her sweatshirt onto the ground and pulled him close, her lips connecting with his as she got sucked into the moment.
Nevaeh didn't care if he wanted to do this or not; the female just wanted to feel secure and make up for lost time. The only thing on her mind was Brantley as Nevaeh smiled between kisses, peeling off Brantley's shirt as her hands explored, her body feeling wide awake now that she was doing something that kept her alert. Her long hair spilled everywhere as she carried on, tugging off her breeches. She figured no one would be here, considering how early it was, so she didn't worry about anyone coming in and ruining the moment. Soon, her kisses had spread to his jawline, and soon to the nape of his neck. Everything was perfect; she had to remember to thank her lucky stars for going beyond odds and hope to bring her to this moment with Brantley. She knew that she would have to thank them someday, but it never occurred to her that it would be because of this.

Brantley could see the change in Nevaeh as his words sank in. At first he didn't think she believed him, but when her slender arms wrapped around his body, he knew what her intentions were. He raised his eyebrows slightly and spoke in a low voice, "What the hell?...Just a few seconds ago you hated me, Nevaeh." Despite his confusion, he decided not to fight it any longer. Brantley kissed the top of her head softly as she buried her face into his chest. He breathed in her scent and sighed deeply as she grabbed his wrist and led him into the lounge. He followed willingly, knowing all too well what was coming next. He allowed himself to be placed on the couch and he watch as Nevaeh slowly began removing her clothes, starting with her boots. Soon, she was left in just a bra and underwear. Chills spread over his body as she peeled his shirt off, tossing it onto the floor next to them. Brantley returned her kisses eagerly, closing his eyes as she caressed his jawline and neck. His lips found hers again and he slowly began to unbutton his jeans, never taking his mouth away from hers. In a matter of seconds, what was left of his clothing was on the ground, and Brantley wrapped his strong arms around Nevaeh, pulling her on top of him. He ran his hands along her side, wanting to feel every inch of her. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Before she even had a chance to respond, he drew his lips to her neck and serenaded her with kisses, finally giving her what he had intended to last night. The only thing on Brantley's mind was Nevaeh. She was all he could see, taste, and feel.
Brantley was physically exhausted after he had given himself to Nevaeh. He rolled off of her slowly, careful not to hurt her in any way. He stroked her cheek softly and kissed her forehead tenderly, afraid he might have hurt her in some way. He brushed a strand of hair away from her face and sat up slowly, leaning back into the couch. He wasn't sure how Nevaeh was going to respond after that, but she was the one that had pulled him into the lounge. Brantley smiled softly in her direction and rubbed at the back of his neck. She was so beautiful in ever way, and Brantley was so happy that she had finally given in to him. It had been perfect in his opinion, even if it did take a little long to happen. He wasn't sure what to do now...He usually was gone before the women even woke up the next morning, but here he was..still around. The first thought that crossed his mind was to bolt, but Brantley didn't want to chicken out. The second thought was to go and bang some other girl to eliminate the feelings he was having for Nevaeh. He had no clue what was the best option, but he guessed Nevaeh would be the judge of that. Brantley could see them being good sex buddies, but he was afraid it would turn into more with her. She messed up his mind, and that was not something he was used to...

IF YOU WANNA FLY LIKE PAPER [ g e t h i g h l i k e p l a n e s ]
Brantley followed her into the lounge, returning her kisses as she gave herself to him. Everything was a blur from that point on, and the only thing she had on her mind afterwards was Brantley. Once her intentions had been fulfilled, he rolled over back onto the couch, brshing a stray lock from her face and sitting up. Nevaeh stayed lying down, her breathing heavy and her heart racing. Despite all of this, a small smile was placed on her features, her hands folded casually on lap. She couldn't even come to comprehend the events that had just occured. This hardly was a one night stand.. why had sge been so eager to have sex with a man that spent almost all night arguing with? These questions confused her as she sat up, a puzzled expression covering her face. It all felt so new and different. What was going on?
Knowing if she kept up that idea she'd be in for it, she attempted to shake off the feeling, rolling over on her stomach so she was facing Brantley. She studied his handsome features for what seemed like a long time, a soft smile forming on his lips as he rubbed the back of his neck. She knew for a fact that they both did not have the slightest idea of what to do next, this thought bothering Nevaeh. What was she supposed to do? Leave and go gome, most likely never seeing him afain? This pained the female, her mind still wandering before speaking, her words gentle and innocent.
"So... what comes next?
[/b]" She was completely relying on him to have an answer, which probably wasn't the best decision. At this point, she couldn't care less about Brantley's answer, but her own words sent an unwanted shock through her body. She tried to brace herself for an unbearable answer, but her hopes were too high to even think of that. Everything was a tangled mess in her mind, and she couldn't pick out the right solution to this moment, except for the breaking moment of leaving. Nevaeh almost thought about getting in her truck and leaving to save him the trouble, but resisted and tried to hold on for as long as she could. After all, she would probably never feel anything like this ever again. Might as well savor it while it lasts. Brantley's breathing was ragged as he sat back, his head turned towards Nevaeh. He studied her face for a long moment, drinking in every last detail. He was full of emotions, some good and some bad, and he didn't know what to make of them. The girl that laid before him drove him to the point of insanity, but Brantley liked it. She made him feel so miserable all the time, but then this happened and that changed. He was so content in that moment, he felt as if nothing could bring him down. Except for the fact that he had no idea what to do next. Every instinct in his mind told him to run while he still had the chance, but he knew he wouldn't. His body felt like a deadweight that wouldn't be moved. Brantley sighed deeply and shrugged his shoulders lightly at Nevaeh's words, "So...what comes next?" He honestly had no idea. He was just as lost as she was. Did they both just move on? Or did they try to make something of this obvious attraction?
Brantley knew he would never commit to one woman. It just wasn't in his nature. He was the typical, stereotype player. He used girls for their bodies and nothing more. He enjoyed one night stands when he never even had to remember names. Brantley knew that classified him as a jerk, but he really didn't care. Girls still came to him, and that was all that mattered in his mind. However, gazing at Nevaeh stunted these thoughts. Brantley smiled softly at her, his eyes twinkling as he tried to think of a solution to their dilemma. He knew he couldn't just forget about this girl. She was one that he wanted to see again, as rare as that was. Brantley racked his brain for what seemed like an eternity and eventually spoke, his tone light and playful, "Well, I could use a sex buddy. No strings attached? We could just use eachother for mindless sex until one of us starts to feel something more." He knew he wouldn't be the one to fall in love. Brantley had sworn a long time ago that he would never let himself fall for a woman.
His eyes searched Nevaeh's as he waited for a reply. She was either going to be pissed at him and never want to see him again, or she was going to love the idea just as much as he did. If she was struggling with the same emotions as him, it really did seem like the perfect plan. No strings attached...and at the very first spark of feeling, they could both be gone forever. It seemed bulletproof in Brantley's mind...but was it really?

IF YOU WANNA FLY LIKE PAPER [ g e t h i g h l i k e p l a n e s ]
Brantley gave her a smile before speaking, his tones playful and believable. "Well, I could use a sex buddy. No strings attached? We could just use eachother for mindless sex until one of us starts to feel something more." Nevaeh gave him a gentle smile, a chuckle almost escaping. It was a good solution... after all, it's not like everything would've been a piece of cake if they decided to take it to the next level. Yet, a piece of her was almost disappointed in the decision. She'd never felt so strongly about someone before, that was for sure. But did she really need to fall in love to be happy? After all, she had been afraid to ever since her father left her mother when she was sixteen. It had been two years, already, but there was still a nagging feeling inside of her to stay away from commitment. She knew how a lot of things ended, and the last thing she wanted to do was follow in her father's footsteps.
Taking a deep breath, Nevaeh looked down, the smile fading a little before she spoke. "Sounds like a plan, then." She still had mixed feelings about this whole thing, but she hoped that she wouldn't be the one to fall in love at first. Best case scenario, they would never feel that attraction. Then again, the chances were outrageously slim and were not in their favor. The more and more she thought about it, the reliability became less trustable. Pushing a lock of hair behind her ear, she looked around the lounge absentmindedly, taking in the furniture and the fridge and the TV. Just to think that they had been in this room less than twenty-four hours ago, laughing and teasing and cleaning up spilled Coke. A little laugh escaped her lips, shaking her head slowly. She missed those moments, even if they had only occurred yesterday.
She looked at the time, glancing across the room over at the clock. Seven in the morning. It was going to be a long day, for sure. But first, she needed some sleep in her own apartment. Cars were not the most comfortable beds, and Nevaeh still felt pretty sore and exhausted from the events that had occured over the past twenty-four hours. For one thing, she had moved to an entirely different city, bringing her horse in the process. Next, she had had an eventful night at another man's house. And, finally, she had just had sex with the same man the next morning. Her body felt limp, and she knew she'd need extra pain reliever to be able to stand the next day or two. All in all, it was interesting, but the outcome was not as expected. It wasn't the worse outcome, she at least got to see him again. To her, that was all that really mattered at this point. They didn't need to love each other to have a good time, right?
