stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective She had been excited from the moment she had received confirmation, pretty much jacked actually. Grace had agreed to do a lesson with her and Jamm, and Madison was convinced they were not going to disappoint. The horse had been going pretty well the few days before the lesson, she had ridden him outside and he managed to stay focused most of the time. The chestnut goon was a character, talented yes but not quite as push button as Gia. It wasn’t that he didn’t have the same training as Gia did, or not even that he lacked experience. It’s just that the two horses were totally different characters; they kept Madison on her toes no matter what they were up to for sure. She had started the morning early, she wanted to have Jamm lunged before Grace got there and be up trotting him out by the time the coach arrived. She couldn’t help herself, she was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to timing that way. So she headed out, jodhpurs and UGG boots on, a long sleeve and a temporary scarf for the chilly fall weather. While she wasn’t a huge fan of winters coldness and snow she certainly did love autumns stunning colors and temperatures. It was crisp out, enough to keep the horses from sweating while standing but not time for body clipping yet. The drive to the barn was painless and easy, when she got there she headed straight for the tack room. She pulled on her tall boots, added some spurs and grabbed her helmet, she should probably where a full body suit when riding Jamm but Madison was a fan of living on the dangerous side. She picked up the horses tack and headed for his stall.
Her tack was hung and horse pulled into the aisle way, he seemed in a chipper mood as he reached for Madison’s scarf with his lips splayed open in an attempt to grab anything he shouldn’t have. Shooing him away the girl chuckled, he brought a smile to her face even when he was doing something bad, the character in his face was exquisite. While he wasn’t quite as pretty as Gia or nearly as confirmationaly correct the horse had a light air about him, some sort of charisma that drew people just close enough so he could eat their belongings. Tacking the horse up while he stood in cross ties was easy, she stuck on his jumping boots to start, they were strapped tightly around all fours because while the horse could float over 4ft6 fences with little effort he was a klutz on the lung line. Blue plaid square schooling pad was nice and thick, it laid flat on his broad back Madison used her tippy toes to reach. She added his simple schooling half pad then added her schooling saddle to his back, she ran the breastplate and running martingale attachment through the girth then secures it to the saddle D-rings. Before adding a bridle to the set she searched for her lunge line and whip, when locating both she slipped into her gloves stuck her own bat in her back pocket and picked up the horses bridle. She undid the crossties and slipped off his leather name plated halter and let it fall to the floor, Jamm happily opened his mouth for the bit and anything else he could get in it. Once the crown piece was over his eras she worried about pulling leather from his mouth. The horse was kind in the sense that he dropped his head for her, he wasn’t exactly small, in fact he towered over Madison and could make life difficult if he wanted.
Oh Jamm, really at this age you still feel the need to chew things?
She sighed but knew he would never change, she was only joking of course. She pulled the figure of eight nose band from his strong lips and did it up so she could barley fit two fingers in. The gelding was happy in his simple loose ring snaffle, on the odd chance he got pushy or heavy in her hands she had a twist that backed him right off. Though lately he had been very soft in his face and poll, she let the running martingale attachments hang for known and slipped the reins over his head. She knotted them and wrapped them through his throat latch before doing it up as well. She clipped a lunge line to the right ring of the horses bit and tightened his girth a little before heading out. The horse was a bit of a nut, falls cool wind brought some pep out in him though within ten minutes the horse was relaxing, his big trot stride seemed to gain its suspension as he covered the ground snorting. Pulling him in to a halt she went to the gate again, having the arena to herself was nice. With her helmet securely on her head, long hair fell in a neat braid down her back and a smile clung to her flushed cheeks. Undoing his reins she held them in one hand and unclipped the lunge line with the other. Jamm was puffing slightly from his warm up and didn’t budge as Madison dropped the lunge whip, line and her scarf just outside the arenas fence. Bringing him back to the center she found herself the box of a fence and used it to hop on. Before settling in the saddle she had run down her stirrups, tightened his girth and ran the reins through the running martingale. Now sitting tall on him she was certain to keep herself even and square as she walked off, as Jamm wasn’t the type of horse to save her ass like Gia was – he only went as good as you rode him. Once they hit the rail she asked with her calf for his smooth trot, though as he struck off into his large stride the horse lacked momentum and a lot of it. She asked with her spur this time and he seemed to lurch forward the slightest bit, unimpressed Madison reached back with her long schooling bad and cracked him on the haunches. The gelding shot forward with a buck then settled into his working trot; Madison was frustrated by the Jamms manner of questioning everything she asked. She was court with him, he didn’t get a million chances and his only option ever was forward. He dropped into a nice frame for Madison, soft and forward she did have to remind him with her spur every now and then but for his first few trot passes of the day they weren’t bad – at least he wasn’t balking.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - There were two things that she really wanted to do right now. One being riding, and the second being having her baby and getting that whole situation out of the way. Because once she had her baby, she knew she would be another step in the right direction to ride again. She had over two months to go before she could say she was back riding, which sucked. But she knew that she would have to make the best of it. Clutching a steaming mug of tea between her hands, she sat cross legged in her office and stared at the paperwork in front of her. Lease agreements, waivers, all the things that she really needed to put in a file folder but just hadn't had the time to do so. Her intentions had been do that this morning, until one of her younger students came in to her office teary eyed saying that she needed help because her pony was not listening and was being naughty.
Of course she just couldn't have sat there and done nothing. Trudging her way down to the indoor (she was horrified to see that she had just left her pony standing in the arena with its reins over its neck) Needless to say, that had turned in to be a riding lesson because her pony was being a total shit. Some days she just wanted to bash her head in to a wall, not needing the extra stress. Not wanting to burn her tongue once more, she sipped the hot liquid carefully as she flipped through old entry forms that had been faxed off for a horse show. Reading through the names as she put them in a neat pile, she paused at one for a moment. Madison Clearview. Realizing that she was supposed to be teaching her a lesson at some point today, she swore under her breath and shoved everything aside (ruining her almost organized paper work) to look down at the calender.
She most definitely had a lesson to teach in ten minutes. Standing up, she eyed the mess that took over her desk and decided she'd clean it later. She wasn't too keen on the idea of finishing her tea right now, so she left it sitting on her desk with all the other clutter. As she stepped out of her office, she shivered and was almost half tempted to go back and sit in to the heated room. Even though it was only early fall, it was starting to get crisp and cold. Shoving her hands in the pocket of the NYU hoodie, she made her way out to the ring. She wasn't all too sure where she had gotten the sweatshirt from, considering she had never even considered going to NYU. She had been going through her dresser this morning and pulled it on because it was thick and warm. Perhaps it was her brothers from years ago, considering he had went there for a year.
Walking out to the ring, she watched a big chestnut trot along. She figured that it had to be Madison's other horse. He wasn't as flashy as her little bay mare, she could already tell from afar that he most definitely was not a hunter. But she was pleased to see the girl had listened to her comment from last lesson and had a helmet on. Studying the two as they trotted around for a little bit, she leaned back on the fence. “Good afternoon, Madison,” she called out cheerfully. “Trot down over here to my end, please.”

stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective
So Jamm wasn’t always the star that Gia was, he wasn’t the same quality and hell he wasn’t nearly as easy to deal with. He was however talented, athletic and competitive when he put his mind to it which was the ongoing problem. She knew how to deal with him, she had her methods and had what worked and what didn’t she really just wanted some support on this one, she wanted someone to suggest more for her maybe some exercises and perhaps tell her straight up she was wasting her time, or she needed to hand him to someone who was a better rider. The horse was great some days, hell he was great most days lately it was just the odd day that he came out and said eff you. When she had first gotten the horse it had been way worse, they would barely make it three strides to a fence and he would slam on the breaks. He had come so far, and to give up before he had gone all the way? No that was out of the question, and with the good rides she had been having lately she felt that she wasn’t wasting her time, she thought that maybe the horse had something that was more than amateur worthy. She had taken him past the point of you can’t make me to the point where he tried but usually gave in pretty quickly he was now at the point she could condense and control his stride without him using it as an excuse to shut down, she had him forward she had control of his stride she just needed to put the extra finish on his ass before she could kick him out the door. Trotting around she chuckled, a few pops from her bat reminded him to step under himself and as he snorted submissively she realised today they should be able to work on finesse that would make or break him as an open jumper horse.
It wasn’t that Madi didn’t like the horse, if he was a hunter he would be sticking around. Madison liked hunters, she had bought Jamm as a project to flip and sell she had bought him for a challenge hoping he would end out as a hunter or an eq horse. He was neither, a jumper through and through the kind of horse who a jumper rider would enjoy. So as she trotted him around, she turned him down the center line chancing directions he was sticky to start he backed out of her hand and tried to suck behind her leg into some form of a piaffle a smart swat with her bat sent him forward again no bucking no kicks just right back where he was. She wondered why he even put up a fight he knew he was going to lose, her old trainer had told her it was probably because he was used to winning for so long so he is just waiting for the one time she doesn’t kill him or get after him for it – which so long as she owned him would never happen. She was working on the horse, though making certain she wasn’t twisting as Grace leaned against the fence and called over to her. Smiling she looked right to the lady, the pregnant lady that was and trotted the horse in her direction. She slowed to a walk a good distance away and let the horse walk towards her. She loosened her reins but not to the buckle like she would have with her smaller bay mare. Madison smiled, she was happy to see Grace and excited to see what she had to suggest for her and Jamm. She knew the coach wasn’t going to like him as much and that was fine, she just hoped she might see something in him the way she did. Her tone rang out in a chipper greeting,
Afternoon Grace, how are you today? Besides slightly more pregnant than last time I saw you?
Madison smiled, Grace must be getting pretty excited now probably only a few months left till she was ready to pop, Madison couldn’t imagine it. Well she wasn’t really interested in kids ever but the added inability to ride would drive her mental. Though Grace might receive some satisfaction in teaching, like that old saying “those who can’t do, teach” the crappy thing for Grace was the fact that she could, she could ride very very well actually but in her current state it was off limits. Madison didn’t think she could handle that, she admired Grace even more now.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - Brown eyes never left the chestnut, long and lanky with a shorter stride than her other horse. But that didn't mean he wasn't the same quality, he was balanced and looked to be quite light in her hands (or at least at this moment). She was about to comment on sending him forward the moment he sucked back, but she seemed to read her mind, smacking him once with her stick and closing her leg the big gelding trotted forward. So he was that kind of ride, she thought to herself and put more weight against the fence. Grinning at the girl, she laughed under her breath about her comment at her being even more pregnant. That was probably the understatement of the year, she was ready to get this done and over with but she still had time to go. Glancing down at her stomach than back up at the girl, she straightened up and looked over the big chestnut gelding once more.
“Other than the fact I'm ready to get this done and over with and ride. It's absolute torture being surrounded by horses and not being able to ride! But other than that I'm doing pretty well, and how about yourself?” She asked, looking up at her and pulling the NYU sweater tighter around her. The cool temperature was definitely starting to kick in, and she was surprised that when she exhaled she seriously didn't see her breath out in front of her face. If she would been back in New York right now she'd be wearing four sweaters and a winter jacket just trying to stay warm. The warmer Texas temperatures were nice, but today was still an unusually cold day. She hoped that Madison was doing well, running her fingers through the ends of her brunette curls for a moment she glanced back up at her. Reaching out, she patted the big chestnut's face, laughing lightly as he tried to reach out and try and chew on his reins.
“This is Jamm, right?” She said, she had seen the gelding go once or twice in the jumper ring. “He's definitely a different ride than Gia. He's cute though, and he looks like he has a lot of personality.” She tapped his lips, watching in amusement as he tried to get her finger. So many young horses that she worked with were like him, always wanting to have something in their mouth. He didn't seem like he was too young though, so he was just one of those goofy geldings. Shivering at another cool breeze, she stuffed her hands back in her pockets and looked at Madison. “It's starting to get chilly.. and dark faster. I hate waking up with it still dark out, it's weird. I would love it to be like Spring all year around, not too hot or cold. Wouldn't that be nice?”
Pulling her hands from her pockets, she rubbed her hands together and looked at the arena set up with plenty of gymnastic exercises. “I guess we should start getting warmed up. What does he usually need for a warm up? And what do you want to work on with him?” She wanted to get the girls opinion first, she trusted her riding after seeing her go quite a few times that she had ideas of what she wanted to work on, and it wouldn't take her long to spot out the same thing.

stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective Madison was attentive to the horse as they stood, she watched Grace with admiring eyes. She could never handle being able to not ride for so long, she swore if she ever settled down and had kids Gia would have to be there for her at least to walk around on because at the rate Madi was enjoying her horses right not she never saw herself ever being able to be away from them for a long time. Though apparently love did funny things to you, while she wasn’t experienced with true love or anything she knew a few things about boys and had pretty much ruled out those that weren’t in on the horse scene or loaded anyways. The second part of that was joking, though as she thought about it for a moment she decided it needed to be one or the other. A rich dude, or a horse guy. Either would work, so long as they were handsome and well perfect in pretty much every way. She smiled to Grace as she spoke, chuckling lightly she knew the feeling. Injuries had kept her from riding in the past but never as long as Grace had to give up, the more Madi thought about it the more incapable she felt. She spoke, her tone empathetic to the other girl.
Well if it’s any help I admire you. That is not something I ever see myself capable of doing. I’m pretty good, life’s a little slow right now but it’s kind of nice actually.
It was, really she had a few friends. Hung out, hit the movies and was just enjoying life. She had started a few online courses again, she knew eventually she would finish her education she was just far from ready right now. It was nice not to have people beating down her door for time, or parties or anything in that matter. She had taken the past few weeks to relax, enjoy her own company, work with the horses and work on getting herself into shape. She was in the best shape she had been in a while, but it felt nice it felt really nice. She had stopped working out, outside now since it was too cold and the air burned her lungs. She figured this would be one of her last lessons out here too, while she liked riding outside she didn’t mind moving in if it meant staying warmer. Madi didn’t mind the gym, she wasn’t too keen on some of the guys wandering eyes as she ran on the treadmill or did her sit ups but it was something else she was getting good at tuning out, that and the familiar ring of her mother’s phone calls seemed to go hand in hand. She hated lying, she was still doing it because she couldn’t come up with a way to tell them quite yet. She had mentioned time on her holiday break something about off to see the horse and friends at the trainers and no she wouldn’t be coming home to visit this year, all planted in her mom’s voicemail strategically so she wouldn’t have to talk to her. Her mom had called a few times, Madi had answered once and spoke to her about the holiday season convinced her that the time away would be worth it in the long run and her mother of course had settled as far as she was convinced Madi was capable of no wrong and her word was usually correct and always true – until now that was. Grace spoke again, Madison was attentive and smiling. Yes, poor Jam he would never live up to Gia’s spotlight but that was partially his own fault.
Yes this is Jamm. Personality, personality – he has a little extra if you know anyone looking to buy. Please send them my way. He’s not that bad, used to be a lot worse the asshole’s talented he just doesn’t like others to know. As for the weather, that would be perfect this whole winter thing isn’t my favourite part of the year.
She smiled, it was the truth. Spring was a good alternative, it was the start of horseshow season and as long as it wasn’t too rainy it was like the perfect time of year. She had little complaints besides the rain of course. She loved the bright cool mornings which lead to warmer afternoons and then to late cool nights again. The change of season was usually her favourite time too. After a hard summer show season, in this case on two circuits she had been happy to see the leaves changing colors and watch the horses grow hair. She liked the break, wished it wasn’t so dark and cold but always felt it was well deserved on her part as well as the horses after a good show season. Madison listned to Grace again, the lesson starting she was growing more and more excited as the horse beneath her grew more and more distracted with the breeze and what it was blowing. She gathered her reins slightly, turned him on a smaller circle to demand his attention, he gave in reluctantly but moved forward as he did so. She spoke her tone warm in the falls chilling air.
Oh Jamm, well he’s trotted out enough. We just need to canter, and I was hoping to get a hand controlling his stride a bit more. Maybe control is the wrong word, more like adjusting. Forward is an issue for him, so some days I really struggle with collecting him up under himself while staying forward. It would really help our dressage as well, and short lines with him being big are hard when he doesn’t want to collect up and keep the forward at the same time. So lots of forward especially at the base of the fence.
The horse wasn’t a total dick, not all the time anymore at least he was however the kind of horse who kept Madi on her toes and thinking which was always good, he was a bit of a thick headed stubborn mule but Madi had his number and had it on speed dial she just needed help finessing now.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - She smiled and laughed lightly at the girls flattering comment about admiring her for not riding. A small pang of jealousy sat in the pit of her stomach at all her students, riding and jumping to their hearts content without any other real worry in the world. In a way she missed her quiet life, when she'd just sit around and ride, then sit around more with friends. But she wouldn't change anything now, she loved her students, her job, and her boyfriend. It would be nice just to have a moment or two to sit down and do nothing, but she figured that after her baby was born she'd have a lot of down time. Then she'd just be bitching about doing nothing, it was really a vicious cycle in her mind. She just couldn't sit and do nothing, but then when she was super busy she wished she wasn't doing anything, it was something that she couldn't quite figure out.
Listening as she spoke about the horse, he seemed like a sweet enough boy with an attitude. She racked through her mind of students that were looking for horses. She had one girl, but she wasn't looking for a jumper, and something told her that he wouldn't make the hunter that the kid wanted. Her horse had been a head strong jumper that was bold, a cool horse to ride but just didn't go the way she wanted it too. The kid had been determined to make him a hunter and a medal horse, but Grace had been honest and had to break her dream for the horse telling her that there was just no way he'd be the horse that she wanted. She still felt bad, but they managed to sell the horse to a good home, but Jamm seemed too similar to what they had sold. It wouldn't make sense for her to put her student in a situation where the horse wasn't suitable for what they wanted. Shaking her head at the comment about knowing anyone looking, she added quickly. “Not that I can think of off the top of my head. Everyone seems to be looking for hunter and medal horses these days. I'll keep my ears open though, he seems like a cool guy.”
She was growing more and more excited to see the horse go.
Shivering at another cold breeze, she wished she had actually listened to her boyfriend and dressed more warmly. But there was that stubborn part of her that wanted to be right and had left the house in just a sweater for a coat. Definitely not her brightest idea, walking a couple steps forward she figured that it'd be better once she started to move. Madison began to talk about Jamm and she gave the girl her undivided attention once more. That was definitely something she could work with, and she made a mental note that gymnastics would be a good one for this horse. Looking around the ring, she was pleased to see her one stride and bounces were still set- not the best set of gymnastics, but for today the simple exercises would work.
“Sounds good. Lucky for Jamm we get to play with some gymnastic exercises today,” she said jokingly. Her tone was a bit more serious as she continued on, “let's keep him moving and trot around a bit more. Maybe after one or two times around the ring lets pick up canter so I can see what I'm working with, then we will kind of play it by ear from there. Sound good?”
Grace was never one to beat around the bush. Watching the girl and her horse whose coat gleamed under the late Fall sun, she smiled a bit wider to herself and waited to see them go.

stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective Madi smiled to Grace, she appreciated all the time and effort she had put into working with her and really respected the ladies words and criticism. She figured Grace was similar to herself in style of riding and horses, she was a coach and trainer Madison aspired to be like in most every way, so as she sat atop Jamm looking down Madi knew she was making the right decision. The horse was patient in standing still, that was something he was good at but she wouldn’t let him do it long with this nip in the air. Just long enough to hear what Grace said and then they would be off to warm up again. She did keep the horses head up as he tried to pull down and tug at his boots. They didn’t bother him he actually never took them off he just chewed at them if she wasn’t paying attention she had just thrown out a pair with a massive bit mark in them, had she mentioned he had personality? But really she couldn’t be the only person out there who appreciated at that about him, could she? Madi certainly hoped not for if she was she was going to have a hell of a time selling the horse. Sell or lease, either would do right now but she hadn’t officially advertised him yet. He had come back with some great jumper show results, a second and a 6th for his first show wasn’t too bad and with a dressage show up and coming she had a few issues to iron down, her test still had a few hinges she was hoping to get a handle on but the horse wouldn’t take to only flat work kindly, he liked to change things up and Madi knew a jumping lesson would do his brain well and realistically for Jamm it was all mental. A first level dressage test? He could do that in his sleep along with a 4ft jumper course, did he want to? No not really as it would involve lots of effort. Though lately he hadn’t been given much of a choice in anything he did and maybe it was starting to get to him or he was starting to realize that was how life was, no matter what it was Madi liked it.
Grace spoke, huh everyone wanted a hunter or medal horse. She would keep that in mind when picking up her next prospect a medal horse who doubled as a hunter wasn’t easy to find but they were out there and sometimes it just took the right hunter with the right mind to swap into the medal ring Madison would certainly pick out something with the ability to do both when she went shopping. She nodded her head smiling, her tone hit the air joking of course she would never consider.
Huh, maybe I’m selling the wrong horse then? Just kidding of course, Jamm is a cool guy just not my cup of tea, he was bought as a project and needs to find someone who enjoys him as much as I enjoy Gia. Though thanks for the tip my next project will certainly be another hunter or medal horse.
Madison smiled, she wouldn’t really ever consider selling Gia, nope the mare had a forever home as far as Madi was concerned perhaps she even needed to list her in a will or something. Now that was a remorse thought Madi pushed out of her mind before she even thought it out completely, at 21 she didn’t want to consider anything of the sort. She shivered lightly though it was at the thought of death she could pass with it being the wind, legs touched the geldings sides lightly to encourage forward movement. For once she didn’t have to back her leg up with a beating and the horse stepped out into a wonderful springy walk which fell flat after about two strides. Rolling her eyes she poked him with her spur to encourage the original gait once more. When prompted the gelding snorted and picked it up again, Madison still looking to Grace to see what she had come up with for a workout. Grace’s voice was light and rung of laughter, at the mention of gymnastics Madison chuckled too, oh those were certainly not Jamm’s favourite kind of jump. They quite often involved him being snappy with his front end, collecting himself and using his ass he would rather trail behind. For Madison they weren’t bad, she really had to drive him into them and watch that she didn’t get ahead of him because the horse wasn’t totally done of his tricks and had dumped her ass before with a “oh noe i can’t jump that from here” stop. It had been a while but her shoulder still remembered it like it was yesterday. Her tone rang out as she collected the horse digging her spur into him a little he swished his tail but walked up into the bridle at the walk his stride uphill and ground covering.
"Sounds great, Jamm is going to love this! It will be good work for him."
She smiled, out on the rail she squeezed with her calf and backed up her leg with a touch of spur. The horse jumped into a trot with new found freedom in his stride, he stretched out in a working trot. He didn’t have as big of a stride as Gia compared to his size but he had a flashier movement more intended for the dressage ring. She couldn’t wait to see the day someone could sit down rock this horse on his ass end and extend, she had started to tap into his extensions and was impressed he seemed to climb as well as cover the ground. She pushed him forward more with her leg, popping him with the bat was the final encouragement he needed and he finally pushed forward totally in front of her legs and into her hands. That only took one round too long, it took Gia about 4 steps maybe 6 on a bad day and Jamm a whole round. She rolled her eyes, just happy he had gotten there and worked on maintaining him. After she passed Grace for the second time she sat into his back, a little deeper than she would have on Gia and used a lot of her seat and core to cue the horse. She tightened her own back as she collected the trot a little, then cued with a touch of her outside spur just a few inches back. The horse loped off instantly; I’m going to highlight the term lope. Though at the canter it only took him three strides to get his motor on, with a little help from Madison of course. The horse was more balanced naturally at the canter she found it easier for him to maintain momentum. So as she rode him forward the horse gave into a soft flowing working canter, uphill, in front of her leg and from the behind. He carried a soft frame that was set a bit lower than a dressage horses but not ideal for the hunter ring, it was a working frame one the horse found the most comfortable and the easiest to balance in.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - Grace's first horse had been similar in personality to him. He was always chewing on something just because he could. He had been a scopey little bugger, but he had a major attitude problem as people had kindly put it. He was a dream to ride when he was in front of your leg, but it was a struggle to get him there. He was lazy in that sense, but at the same time he could be as hot as can be. When he was behind your leg he'd suck back and spook at the simplest things, she'd have to crack him behind her leg with a crop and dig her spur in his side, but once he got there he was easy as can be. He never stopped at any fence, no matter what the distance. His movement wasn't super, it was average, he never was one to pin high in any sort of flat class or dressage. When he jumped, he wasn't always the best up front, but he kicked hard behind every time. The sad decision to sell him had been when she wanted to go to the bigger shows and do the medals, and he had found himself a girl who loved him and wanted to do a bit of everything with him. Which she had no doubt in her mind that he would have been fabulous for, to this day the girl still had him, and she had sold him nine years ago. Like her with her own horse, she knew that he'd have a forever home and wouldn't be sold.
She smiled at her comment about selling the wrong horse. If the girl even considered selling that mare, Grace would probably jump at the chance to buy her. “You know if you ever make that decision I'll be snatching her up in a heart beat! That one would go quickly in this market. I bet he would too, you just have to catch the right peoples eyes with your ads,” she said honestly. Though the hunter and medal horses were selling the most, a good jumper would sell just as easily as both of those. She just hoped that when Madison went out and bought her next project, she didn't end up with a horse like she had. That hadn't been the best idea to buy a five year old from a show without vetting her first, only to find she was as sweet as could be on the ground until you rode her and she didn't like what you wanted her to do. Shaking her head at the thought, she watched the pair as they trotted off. It took him a bit to come forward and truly get in front of her leg and come round, it didn't shock her too much when she noticed the horses frame lower and his stride become more elastic and free. He had more knee action than what was wanted in the hunter ring, but the more he pushed from behind she could tell he would be a good dressage horse. She had an idea in her mind about how the horse would jump, but until she saw him canter and actually jump she couldn't be certain- not like she had been about Gia.
The two broke in to canter, a steady, long stride. He didn't need to move too fast to cover the ground, but he had a good, upbeat and uphill canter. Watching the pair go around, she called out: “Does he have his changes? Canter across the diagonal if he does and get the change, if not do a simple change.”

stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective Madison kept the canter easily once the horse was there, he stretched out and even released a snort. His self carriage wasn’t as perfected as Gia’s but Madi was working on it, and it was coming along better than it had been. It wasn’t that he got luggy or leaned on her hands it was more like he sat just behind the bit, staying “soft” and trying to get away with less work. It was certainly something she was used to with the gelding, so as she sat deeper into his back for a moment and drove him with her calves up to his face she figured Grace would understand. Jamm though he was unique he wasn’t the only kind of horse like himself out there. Madison was pretty certain she had ridden other horses quite like him and worse before. The thing about Jamm was the fact that he was a very rewarding horse to ride, as he cantered along looking for something to spook at Madison was attentive to the ring as well. He wasn’t an easy push button agreeable ride like Gia was, the chestnut beast like to test her every chance he got, his spunk was inspiring though his attitude often frustrating, she just hoped there was someone out there who thought he was a neat horse because in reality he was. He just had a few problems and needed a solid leg, perhaps he would be better suited to a male rider or something as far as Madi was concerned she didn’t have enough personality or charisma to counteract his, she hadn’t bonded with him like she had Gia. As far as she was concerned after she put a few more final touches on the horse it would probably be as far as she could take him in training. Grace’s voice caught the wind and made it to Madisons ear as she passed her once more, chuckling she called back a hint of teasing in her voice.
"Well if I ever decide to make that mistake you will be the first to know, as for Jamm I know there’s someone out there who will appreciate and enjoy him, I just need to find them."
She continued to canter, the horses stride was simple and clean enough for the lower levels of dressage. With some work and finessing in a dressage saddle she figure he could make it up to third or fourth level, he was athletic enough and fancy enough someone just needed to convince him it was a good idea. She smiled at the thought, she had ridden him in a few dressage classes and shows, he usually did decently though it all of course depended on the horse’s mood on that particular day. She knew the horse had potential and so did a few people who watched her ride him while others simply rolled their eyes and wandered what the hell she was doing showing this beast when Gia was sitting back in the barn and some days she asked herself the same question. Though today as he cantered along, behaving himself he didn’t even spook at the wind and leaves it blew Madison knew the horse had come to her for some reason or another. Whether her shoulder was supposed to be wrecked for life, or maybe she needed to deal with a devil horse to really appreciate Gia whatever it was she had the chestnut gelding and was actually enjoying her ride on this particular day. Grace spoke out again, Madison nodded to her and waited for the corner to come to them, as it did she steered him through it with her leg and a touch of rein to support. He was slightly sticky in the bend to start though after the second step he was light and balanced once more. She was patient, he was a bit weird with changes. Sometimes he played his usual lazy self and others he was like a cannon waiting to explode and today as she approached X she felt cannon horse and rolled her eyes. Sitting extra deep she asked for the change and braced herself lightly. The change was instant, instant and correct though proceeded by a fair size buck which took most of Madison’s skills to stay in her seat. Once the buck was done he went back to loping along his merry way, as though nothing had even happened the horse was his lazy self again lagging behind the bit and lacking in his stride. Popping him one with the bat he awoke into his working canter once more and snorted, this new direction didn’t take as much work on Madison’s part. He was warmed up and maybe even enjoying himself, as she passed Grace, Madison smiled her tone was light and laughing on the falls chilly air.
"Yah, he has changes they are just another way he likes to express himself."

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - Watching the raw power of the horse move, his stride elevated and uphill. It made her jealous, wishing that she could feel the power underneath her once more, making the thousand pound animal yield to the slightest pressure of her leg. There was nothing more right now than she wanted other than that feeling, the surge of power coming up to a big fence, the jolting impact on the landing. It wasn't something that her memory did justice too, it just wasn't something that she could dream of either. She'd have to live it again to get that familiar rush, that pure happiness of just being in the saddle. The time seemed to be dragging by, though the days went by so quickly. In the big picture she still had forever to go, and that's what tore her apart.
Grace laughed at her comment about it being a mistake to sell Gia, and she had to agree. Those two were a solid team that couldn't be replaced, the way they went just had something about them. That something was hard to come across, and once you achieved to hold on to it as tightly as you could was the best thing to do. The chestnut was a looker, but he just wasn't the flashy, hunter type. As the two cantered across, he sucked back slightly before giving her a change and bucking. Taking it with ease, the girl pushed him through it. That wasn't something she minded herself, but a potential buyer looking at a horse wouldn't want that. Some could find it intimidating, and many knew that it would take extra precious seconds in the jumper arena. When it was coming to just milliseconds in the jumper ring, they needed those seconds more than anything. Going in to a tight turn, you couldn't have your horse popping its hind end and risking the slightest change in balance. They needed to be up off of their forehands and in front of your leg. Some people really did not enjoy the kicking up behind, especially if a competitive junior would be looking at him.
That was something that might have to change.
But then again maybe it was just because he was fresh in the fall air, and didn't always do them. Others did it out of pain, but she could tell by the way he moved that he was in no pain. Perhaps just fresh, or it was something that he did. It wasn't an uncommon habit, many hopped through their back ends, bucked, kicked up. “Does he always buck after them?” She asked. “Canter across the next diagonal and ask for another change.”

stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective The gelding found his new stride with some help from Madi, while the buck hadn’t succeeded in unsettling her it was certainly annoying her. His changes were a problem area, if you over drilled them he would shut down and refuse to change at all. If you under practiced them he tended to be fresh and kick out, she usually got after him if it persisted past once or twice but it rarely went that far. On a course his changes were auto, she didn’t need to ask so he felt no need to kick out. In the dressage ring as long as she had him gathered up properly and had a few clean ones in the warm-up they turned out quite nice. He was an interesting ride, kept Madi on her toes and today was proving to be no exception. Each second he thought about sucking back she popped him one with her bat though the attempts were growing less and less, continuing at the horses balanced gait she looked over to Grace. Mind thought back to the previous conversation about selling Gia, the girl hoped she would never have to sell the mare. Money wasn’t a problem at the moment, though her parents didn’t know about the mare. She was old enough that they didn’t have a real truthful say in her life anymore so besides providing some money they couldn’t do much. The mare was Madi’s heart horse, she didn’t think she would ever be lucky enough to find a mare like her again so she had planned on enjoying the time they had together the best she could. Though as she continued at the canter past Grace the coaches words hit the air and Madison smirked. The horse wasn’t always easy to explain, so in a few words she tried to sum it up.
“No he’s weird about them though. If you over drill them he stops changing all together and shuts down, he will hop into them or buck only when asked the first few times. On course he is automatic so no real problems, he only kicks out the first 2 or three times I ask. So when I get to a show I do 2 – 3 in the warm up and then leave him alone and he’s usually pretty good.”
Oh Jam. He was an odd horse, talented but odd and he made you work for everything you got. As she came through the corner a second time the horse was more balanced and not as explosive, he was alert and ready to anticipate the change right at X so she held off an extra few strides before asking. He didn’t buck this time but he certainly lept into the change with force and enthusiasm. She rolled her eyes and popped him one with her crop to let him know it wasn’t acceptable and was more than enough. He was collected and carrying though sitting just behind the bit, keeping a steady soft contact she pushed the horse forward with her seat and leg and was content when he pushed himself up to the bit and accepted the contact with a soft carriage. He was behaving his little chestnut ass today for whatever reason, she was not about to complain about it though. She looked over to Grace, perhaps she had a better solution than what Madi had come up with, maybe it was something the horse was doing, or she was doing. She thought about her seat for a moment and fixed her twist and pulled her shoulders back. Perhaps her twisting was throwing him off balance in the change and that was his reaction. Looking over to Grace she wore a smile as the horse moved easily down the arena wall. She gave the pregnant lady lots of space and was eager to hear what she had to say.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - “Interesting,” she said to herself as the gelding cantered along. An experienced rider would have no trouble with the gelding kicking up through the changes, especially if he only did it a handful of times. Some horses just had odd quirks, things that made them all unique. As far as this gelding went (at least from what she had seen) he had quite the personality. Watching her bring him back down to the walk, he remained soft and supple in her hand and over tracked easily. He moved well enough, not the complete flat kneed movement they wanted in the hunter ring, but with the more expression action through his legs it proved he could definitely be a nice dressage horse. She had yet to see him jump, but from what she had heard he didn't have more trouble with it. She couldn't imagine the girl having a horse that didn't jump well, Madison had a good eye and rode well enough that she'd be able to figure it all out.
It pleased her that she didn't have to remind the girl about her twist, the moment she was about to comment on it she had fixed it herself. That was the only way she was going to fix it, Grace could only remind her so many times, but until she took care of it herself it wouldn't get better. She had learned that herself when she was younger, her coach reminding her constantly to bend her left knee forward and get her lower leg on her horse. Smiling at her as she pulled him up to a halt and gave her space, she walked up (although it was more like a waddle) to them and rubbed the big chestnut's face. He had a soft eye, a trait that she liked in all of her horses.
“He's quite the character,” she commented. “Does he feel warmed up enough to jump to you?” She asked. Looking out at the many different gymnastic exercises set out on the ring, she decided that they could warm up over the smallest one for now so she didn't have to move anything. “If he does, let's trot in to the far gymnastic exercise. It's a trot in bounce to a one stride. It's the blue and pink jumps,” she gestured to it as she spoke about it. There was a cross rail, to a low vertical to a slightly higher vertical. “It's going to be a bit tight for him, so you're not going to want to have too much trot coming in. We'll do that a couple times and see how it goes, if you feel like you need to you can halt after it- but I don't think you're really going to have that problem.”
Setting back to the fence, she leaned against it once more. Half of her wanted to sit on it, but the other half didn't want to see if the fence would support her. Knowing her luck she would be heavy enough to break it (though she truly wasn't). That would just be bad, and awkward. Sighing to herself at the thought, she watched enviously as the girl gathered her reins and trotted off.

stop there and let me correct it , i wanna live a life from a new perspective The gelding stood patiently, he liked standing still it was his favourite time spent in the ring. He was thankful for any attention and leaned into the hand on his face. Madi rolled her eyes at the horse, for the big show he put on he was certainly a suck and the master of faces. She listened to Grace, “quite the character” was a perfect description of the horse and she had only met him this once. The horse was indeed quite the character, today he just happened to be in a good mood and on good behaviour. God help Madi on the rare day he came out an asshole. She might be more interested in keeping him if there was any hope he could show in the hunter ring but the more she rode him and the more she watched him go the more she realized he really needed to get himself a new home, someone who wanted to show jumpers. The gelding might make a neat eq mount to if someone put the time into him, a big eq horse who was scared of natural obstacles. Okay so maybe not the best idea anyone has had yet, but heck maybe with some work he could get there. She wasn’t exactly interested, Madi had already put a whole bunch of work into him. The gelding needed to be finished to how his new rider wanted him, he wasn’t for the faint of hearted or inexperienced rider. Jam would work best with someone who loved a challenge and loved the thrill and feeling of a great course that they worked for. He wasn’t Olympic level right now and maybe he wouldn’t ever be, but she did seem him sailing around a 4ft6 course without a problem.
“Yah, he hears that one a lot.”
She chuckled lightly, the silence didn’t last long before Grace spoke again. Madi was all ears as she listened carefully to what the trainer had to say, oh boy her mind ran wild. Jam hated bounces, they required work on his part. It forced the big strided horse to gather up under himself quickly and work with snappy knees. He hated hitting rails more than he hated going forward. Madison smiled as she spoke, her tone was enthusiastic and certainly ready.
“Yup, he feels ready to go. He’s not gunna love this but we should make it through just fine.”
She took the gelding out to the rail his trot was smooth and ground covering but she didn’t let him get strung out or too forward she was bearing in mind what Grace had said. At sight of the bright fences Jam perked his auds, he snorted lightly a few steps out and Madi saw the distance almost instantly. She kept her leg on with a soft contact to the horses face, keeping the minimum pace was not a problem – keeping herself straight was. The cross rail was small, so her twist didn’t bother the horse. Upon landed she made certain to add leg for the single stride, her eq was good, not perfect but correct. Her leg was solid and she managed to untwist in the single stride between the fences. Her release was proper and she balanced with the horse easily, Jam landed smoothly and without even taking a full step they were off again. The horse shook his head upon landing swapped leads and Madison brought him down to the walk. It was simple enough, they came to the second fence slightly drifted to the left thanks to her twist though the gelding did a good job of compensating in time for the bounce. The fences that small and they didn’t bother him, it wasn’t hard work yet and he didn’t have to put too much effort in. She pushed him down the line again, though as soon as they hopped over the first fence she realised they had come in a little strong. She spoke to him as she sat back collecting him in the single stride they had.
“Sorry man, crazy driver here.“
The gelding half responded, he was content to rush through till he got to the bounce and found himself in a very tight spot. He made the fence, it was close and had it been much higher he would have had valid reason to refuse. Upon landing Madi cursed herself silently, she really wasn’t making this easy on Jam. If he had been a little more finished he might have been able to come back to her in the single stride but their mess ups thus far were pilot error. She looked over to Grace and then back to the line, one more time she thought to herself and trotted the gelding towards it again. It felt funny to be collecting him back, normally the horse needed to be pushed forward though with the help of a soft leg and soft hands and a quiet seat he came back to her with ease. Almost a little too much ease for as she landed from the first cross rail she had to add a touch of spurs to his stride so he had enough momentum and room to make the one stride then to the bounce. Much better she still felt like the line was tight but it was sort of expected when things were shorter distances and your horse had a giant stride. She slowed him to the walk again and gave the gelding his head, heading towards Grace she smiled, interested to see what the pregnant trainer had to say.
