WE ARE GOD’S UNWANETD CHILDREN, SO BE IT. The nurse had been busy and running behind when Raegan had gone to get her routine medicines. With it being winter, more and more people were showing up in the nurse’s office every day with flu-like symptoms; most of them just faking it to get out of school early. If there was one thing about the woman in the white coat that Rae had learned, it was that the woman, while a wonderful practitioner, could use a bit better organization (and prioritizing) skills. ‘Dr.Norah’ and she liked to be called knows all about Rae’s ‘disability’ (as most kind people call it), but today was different. With two kids busy throwing up, one cradling a broken nose, and another with a rising fever, Raegan was the least of the woman’s worries, and while she could have just administered the drugs herself, her parents had signed a release that said she couldn’t do that, as they didn’t trust her or her insomnia well enough to think she’d lucidly be able to give herself the right medicine.
In their defense, it had happened before.
By the time she got out of the nurse’s office, lunch was well over and the next set of classes had begun. Her hands shook; she hated being late. She was never late, but she hated being late anyway. She had raced down the shockingly empty halls to her locker, fumbling with the lock three or four times before getting the code right. Ripping it open she plopped down on the ground in front of her bottom locker and opened her backpack. In it was an un-consumed lunch (she was rarely hungry anymore), books, binders, and a half consumed bottle of water. In her panic, she shoved her entire backpack into her locker and only grabbed out one book. Shutting her locker she sprinted across the hallway, only to realize what she had done. Frustrated, she ran back to her locker and fumbled with it again. Looking at her watch she sighed heavily, her teacher had already locked the door.
A lot of people in the school knew of Rae’s panics when she was late.
But this teacher did not care about her disability, didn’t seem to notice that Raegan was her best student in the class, she only seemed to rest on the negatives that Raegan sometimes did. In all honesty, Rae was not popular, she had a hard time connecting with people as most did not understand what it was like to just want some sleep and never get it. Tripping over her own feet she re-opened her locker and got her backpack out and shoved her books in it. Now fully sprinting down the hallway she was oblivious to anyone that was out in the halls between classes like she was, turning corners slowly but gaining full speed on the straight ways. By the time she looked up from the gum-stained carpet in the hallways, someone was already a few inches away from her. The impact stopped her instantly and made her fall to the ground, rolling in pain. Breathing heavily she sat up and wanted to crawl in a hole as she looked at the person (young man, rather) she had run into. Running a hand through her black hair she whispered under her breath, Fuck my life… He looked popular, and if he was like the entire population of good looking senior, popular boys in the school he’d probably go tell his friends about how the local freak had run into him in the hallways. Wanting to cry from stress she remained sitting and said in an exasperated, worn-out voice, Uh, sorry…about that. I obviously didn’t see you…

THERE'S NOTHING MORE DANGEROUS THAN A BOY WITH CHARM, So far the new school was going well. It was different to his previous, very different. Partly because he had boarded at his old school, back in England, and paid more than he should have per term to be there. Well into the thousands. Whereas here it was free entry, with not even an entrance test. He took it all in his stride though. Veronica, his twin sister, had not. She had thrown a strop about the school that she was expected to study and learn in, not that she ever learnt anything back in England anyway. She just liked the status that same with attending a public school. Whereas now, they were learning a state school. The differences were easy to spot. The teachers hardly cared, the appearance of the school was run down and hardly maintained well and the students were nearly all like his sister had been. No one here was into polo, well they didn't even have a polo team, or a lacrosse academy. He didn't particularly mind though it meant he could spend more time on his studies than on his athletic pursuits.
Indeed, he was a bit of a geek when it came to academics. You could tell this from the clothes he was wearing. Shirt trousers and brogues, complete with a tie too. He'd yet to see other students wear the same as he did. But he wasn't used to being unrestricted on clothing. His purple shirt was as wild as his uniform got when it came to school wear. It was safe to say he liked to study, but he also liked to party. He had the best of both worlds. He was naturally clever, he had work at some things and he liked to put the effort in but he knew that he didn't have to study hard to get his desired grades. Which made time for him to be the life of the party when needed. Which in turn had made him within the 'in' crowd at the school. His sister Veronica had helped with that too, instantly she had risen to the top of the school's hierarchy, deciding who was in the 'in' crowd and who was not. Obviously being her twin brother she couldn't have a looser as a brother, no matter how geeky he could tend to be. And so Edward was deemed worthy by Veronica, which immediately mean he was deemed worthy of all those surrounding or friends with Veronica. Eddie didn't make much of this, but he played along as well as he could. Which did not mean being mean to anyone. He would never stoop that low. He hung out with the guys mainly, they were an all right bunch really, half of them he was unable to hold a proper conversation with. Unless it was on the subject of beer, sex or what happened in last nights hockey/football game. Which he could hardly ever respond to well.
People may think of him as being shallow for allowing himself to be in the company of morons. But if he did insist on hanging around with people who he could actually hold a decent conversation with (the looser's) there would be hell to pay from Veronica. And he'd never hear the end of that one. So he thought it was much better to keep the peace, than to destroy it for absolutely no reason. Especially when he could hang out with the half guys without getting irritated. Not that Edward ever did, he would simply politely tell them to stop talking, or to change the subject. And those were just the lads. The girls were ten times as worse and were the most annoying group of girls he'd possibly ever met. They clung to his sister like flies on honey. He thought his sister was bad, at least she was clever, stubborn and independent (in her own weird way). She knew what she wanted and how to get it. While the gaggle of girls around her did not have a clue about what they wanted. True Veronica only wanted popularity and the hottest boy in school, but she wanted the power that came with it, not necessarily the arm candy. The circle of girls she now called 'friends' only wanted that cute boy from math to notice her so she could get a quick fuck out of it.
Unfortunately he was in this category of 'arm candy' and so had been constantly clambered on throughout his first few days at the school. Much to his disgust. Fortunately his sister must have warned them about him being out of bounds and reluctantly they had gone back to their old ways of giggling at the jokes his friends made which weren't at all funny. Unable to think about them in a sluttish way, he often thought that perhaps they were just polite. Which evidently was not the case. But still, the thought perceived a better image of human kind, for Edward anyway. Lost in his thoughts as he meandered down the hallway to his possible next lesson (not that he knew where he was going) he couldn't help but roll his eyes at a group of girls who walked by giggling. Yes he was the schools new British boy. Not just British, English. Not that the town hadn't had an influx of European's ,making their way in but yet somehow his accent entertained the school quite a lot. Which bugged him.
Especially when they tried to imitate his well spoken words. With some level of extreme failure.
The trouble is with Edward, when he gets lost in his thoughts he really gets lost in his thoughts. He wasn't watching where he was going when he was a step away from knocking into someone. Or them knocking into him. They were walking at a much faster pace than he had been and unfortunately he had sent them flying. He looked down at the person now at his feet. A black haired girl sat looking at him, sheepishly running a hand through her hair. Luckily he'd decided to wear his bad with the shoulder strap today, else his books might have decorated the grungy floor. He smiled down at her for a second, before realising he should probably help her back up. "Oh no I'm sorry, please let me help you up." He offered apologetically, out stretching his hands for her to grab them. He curved his back slightly so he was closer to the ground. Eddie wasn't small. He was 6ft 2 and hopefully he had stopped growing by now. Hopefully. While offering to help up the girl from the floor he was amazed that no one else had bothered either. At Stowe many other people, including teachers would have stopped to see if she was ok. Here everyone stared for a moment in shock (possibly at a girl like her bumping into a boy like Eddie) and then going about their day as if nothing had happened. Even the teachers rushed by so that they could get to the staff room, or their next lesson.

WE ARE GOD’S UNWANETD CHILDREN, SO BE IT. For as long as she had been attending the Addison school district, Raegan had never been ‘popular’, even before she had been diagnosed with insomnia she had always been socially awkward. The ‘disease’ only worsened her unpopularity. The bad thing about being in the same school for her entire school-age career was that most everyone knew what was wrong with her, most everyone knew how to set her off, and most everyone did just about anything they could to make her life miserable. Whether it was spreading unkind rumors about her or hiding her books, the torture never failed. After a few years of this treatment, Raegan had finally drawn so far into herself that she no longer cared how she looked or what other people thought of her. She’d suddenly began to live by each day and not what was happening in the future, and she most certainly tried to not rest on what happened in the past.
She didn’t want to be the type to hold grudges.
Niceness was not something she was used to, especially coming from fellow students. This is why she frantically tried to pick up books and scattered papers before the boy she had unfortunately run into had a chance to react. Like an outcast of society meeting with a monarch, she didn’t want to be punished for unlawfully interacting with someone who was far beyond her league. But as a few people stopped to watch the spectacle and get their daily fill of entertainment from Addison High’s local freak, she looked up at the blond headed boy and realized that there was something different about him. Most importantly, she hadn’t seen him around school. If she were a different person, she’d probably try to make friends with him in hopes that stories of her spazz out moments had not yet reached his ears.
But she was Reagan Schaub, she who lived as the butt of other’s jokes, not she who made friends with people she probably shouldn’t be making friends with.
He offered to help her, and she could already hear the surprised whispers rippling through the very tiny crowd of people that’d gathered around her amphitheatre of humiliation. Shaking her head she spoke with a slight tremble in her voice and kept her eyes downcast like a lower-ranking dog in a pack (she didn’t want to see the taunting fake-niceness in his eyes like she’d seen so many times before), Oh, no! No, no, no, no! Please don’t bother. It’s ok, I’ve got it. I’m really sorry for running into you…um, I hope you’re not late to class….
