did you dream that the world would know your name? - - - - - - - - - - He had agreed to take her out or dinner, and now he had to decide what to do to take her out to dinner. The first thing that had came to his mind was taking her through a fast food drive thru and dropping her back off at home and telling her to enjoy her meal. It had been a nice thought, but he decided that perhaps he should show a bit more gratitude taking the mare off of his hands. Because she would probably get pissed off if he just took her to McDonald's, and then there was a possibility that she would be disgusted with his carelessness and give the horse back. And that was something that he just didn't want, so he considered his other options. He could take her to a cheap restaurant, or actually take her to some place that was nice. Though he was sorely tempted just to take her to the fast food place, he sat down with a phone book on his lap and flipped through the pages to find the different restaurants down in the South side of the town. That had brought up a whole new list of restaurants and more reading that just irritated him. Why did such a small town have so many possible places to eat? Figuring that if he was going to do this right, he might as well like what he was eating and made reservations at The Providence. Calling Roman, he had left her a voice mail telling her to dress nicely so he wouldn't be embarrassed to take her out, and that he'd be there to get her at eight.
Now that just left him to get presentable, which in his opinion wasn't going to be hard to do. Having high levels of self confidence like he did, he could show up without any clothing on and still look good. Running his fingers through his damp hair, a towel wrapped around his waist as he went through his closet trying to decide what to wear. Pulling out a black pair of dress pants and a button up light blue shirt, he put those on and grabbed and belt and a tie striped with light and dark blue with silver in it. His hair was gelled back slightly, and he thought he looked good (well, he always did). By the time he was done, it was perfect timing because he had to leave to pick up Roman. Grabbing his jacket off the counter along with his wallet and car keys, he locked his door behind him and made his way out to his sports car.
The drive to Roman's hadn't taken nearly as long as he had hoped. Parking on the side of the road a couple of houses down, he sat there with the heat and radio going watching the time change. It only took him three minutes before he got bored, and he wasn't sitting there any longer. Pulling in to her driveway, he let his car idle for a moment before he contemplated just sitting there. He was early, and he had always heard that girls were never on time. Sighing, he decided that he could be there forever if that was true he cut the engine and made his way up to the door. Looking up, the sky was clear and it was a crisp, cloudless night. Shivering slightly at the cool breeze, he shoved his hands in his pants pockets and stared at the door for a long moment. A coat really hadn't came in to his mind, which probably would have been a smart thing for him to grab considering he hated the cold. Although he had grown up in Great Britain where it always rained and snowed, he just never fancied the temperature. In the summer it had been warmer, but the winter always dropped to ridiculous lows. Sighing, he hoped that he had the right house (because it would just be awkward and it'd piss him off). Considering he was in a decent mood for once, that wouldn't be a great chain of events for that to occur. Finally pulling his right hand from his pocket, he knocked and shoved it back in his pocket, waiting for her to answer.

anywhere you go anyone you meet remember that your eyes can be your enemies
hold me down, sweet and low little girl, hold me down, and i will carry you h o m e
R O M A N She'd left the barn with one more horse to her name, and the promise of an outing from a man she'd basically just conned into taking her out. Perhaps she'd done it because she needed a little fun, or maybe she did it because he seemed to have a unique personality the polar opposite of her own. The fact that he was pretty damn attractive helped, too, and the thought made her smile as she carefully swooped mascara onto her naturally butterfly like eyelashes. He'd left a message telling her to dress nicely else he would be embarrassed by her, and it was a somewhat hilarious shock to hear these words spoken out loud. He was refreshingly arrogant and uncaring, something she'd honestly never experienced. Most guys fawned over her, or begged her to play flag football; he had to be conned into giving her the time of day.
She debated for awhile on what to wear, popping a few antacids and taking a sip of daytime flu medication even though she hadn't had any more problems since leaving the barn earlier in the afternoon. Regardless, she didn't want to ruin anything being distracted by an upset stomach. She flipped through what little formal wear she owned (which wasn't much) and settled on a simple sort of dress she kept for special occasions (which didn't come often), an elegant white thinly strapped number that reached to the floor, but when she donned a particularly precarious pair of matching high heels which roped daintily up her ankles, her toes were just visible beneath the sparkling hem of it. Fortunately for her, she also had a long designer black trench coat to don over the hardly cool-weather-friendly dress, and as a knock came to her door she shrugged it quickly on and masked whatever her dress may have looked like aside from being long.
Her hair is swept up in a similarly elegant style, sweeping back across the top of her head before falling lightly across her exposed shoulders. A few tendrils had managed to slip out of the up-do but she figured it only added to the effect, her smoky make up pulling more attention to her eyes than a few stray hairs ever could, along with the sparkling earrings that dangled from her ears. A slight amount of nervousness clutched at her stomach, but she just popped another antacid before following up with a stick of gum (which was promptly discarded as soon as her feet hit the bottom of the stairwell). As expected, Devin was on time and she figured he wasn't one to wait, so she clipped rapidly to the door and tugged it open, a smile on her face that only got bigger when she saw how trim and neat he looked. He must have somewhere pretty nice in mind (obviously else he wouldn't have asked her to dress up) but it still surprised her. Most guys thought a collared shirt and jeans was dressed up.
"Well don't you look just spiffy." she said smartly before snatching a black clutch from table sitting near the door. Fortunately he hadn't had to wait long, something she was glad for as a chilly breeze threatened to slip in through her lengthy coat. She pulled it tighter around her, stepping out onto the stoop with him (a bit closer than originally intended, but she hardly minded) and promptly locked the door behind her. Turning back, now, to face him again, she could take him in properly without the rush. Her bright green eyes didn’t waver from his darker ones for several moments, and she was glad she’d coerced this man with a nasty temperament out. Maybe a night out was what he needed. ”Sorry I kept you waiting.” she started with an apologetic shrug, her eyes averted for a moment before looking back again. ”You really do look nice, though.” she said earnestly, a smile gracing her lightly lip-balm-coated lips before continuing. ”Shall we?” she asked in a friendly manner, gesturing towards his shiny sports car before stepping suggestively off the stoop. She lifted her dress just slightly through the thick fabric of her coat so as not to trip, her pale ankle visible for only a moment as her heeled foot hit the ground. The fact that she’d coerced him into going seemed to make her feel a bit guilty at this point, but she was glad that she’d at least dressed up pretty well for him. Maybe that would make up for it. when that day comes look into my eyes no one's giving up quite yet we've got too much to lose

did you dream that the world would know your name? - - - - - - - - - - He really, really hated the cold. Standing there with his hands shoved in his pockets, he watched as his breath came out in small white clouds in front of his face. The humid, thick Summer air had long disappeared without even leaving the slightest trace that it had ever came. Memories of the heat were all he had left, and the cool, crisp November air wasn't doing him any good. Right now he really wished he would have wore a jacket, because this was starting to irritate him. The door finally opened, and he was glad to see he hadn't gotten the wrong house when the green eyed, brown haired girl answered it and smiled at him. He simply raised his brow, glad at the warm rush of air that came from in the house. It hadn't lasted long though, before he knew it the sharp cold was biting at the back of his neck once more. Devin wasn't the most observant in the bunch when it came to things that weren't horses, in a second he could spot our sound and unsound, or just which horses were better quality. When it came to other things, he definitely hadn't earlier noticed that the girl was quite pretty. Maybe it was just the dress that she was wearing that made him notice, he stood there silently as she slid from the warm, safe confinement of her house and beside him. The closeness between them almost made him want to recoil and step back, but there wasn't any unnecessary physical contact that drew him to do so. Standing there, ignoring every part of him that wanted to move, he met her eyes as she looked at him for a moment.
Simply shrugging his comment about her keeping him waiting, it hadn't been a long enough time to irritate him to a point where he needed to add to it. Now if it had been a couple degrees colder, and a few minutes longer than perhaps he would have added a snarky remark in there. But tonight he was on his best behaviour, and that meant going above and beyond his normal standards (like taking her to McDonald's and bringing her back home). She complimented him once more, and he just smirked arrogantly for a moment. “I know,” he said, half of him almost considered telling her that she also didn't look half bad. He reminded himself once more that he was going to go above and beyond, and made himself do so. I'm not embarrassed to be seen in public with you.”
That was as close as a compliment as he could muster up. He had never really learned what was socially acceptable as far as being “nice” or “being kind” had been. Taking a step in front of her as she stepped out toward the car, he opened the passenger door for her. Raising his brow at her once more she as looked at him for a moment, he waited until she was in to close the door softly. He loved his car, and would not be impressed if anything happened to it. Rubbing his cold hands together as he crossed the front of his car, he climbed in and shivered, immediately starting up the car and cranking the heat back up. S'bloody cold out,” he said after a moment of silence between them, before flicking the radio on and letting the dull hum of music fill the silence. He tried to avoid conversation as much as possible, which had proven to be quite hard to do many times. Leaning back in the comfortable, warm heated seats he was glad to be out of the cold. The drive to the Providence wouldn't take him too long by the way he drove (he believed the speed limits were just suggestions of how fast to go) and he hoped the restaurant was heated and warm.
He would not hold back from bitching to the staff until they kicked him out if the restaurant was freezing.

R O M A N She wasn't quite sure why she found his slight arrogance to be more humorous than offensive, but she supposed it was a good thing for him anyway. Besides, from the amount of effort he put in to avoid speaking with people (or maybe it was just her) she wasn't quite sure if that was his true personality or if it was just a front he put up for everyone else. She chuckled at him, looking down at her cold hands before plunging them into her dark pockets and stepping off with him. "Well I'm glad to hear that, it was the goal after all." she said with a playful grin as they both headed towards his car. They were quiet for the short walk there, and she smiled at him as he politely opened her door. She settled in obligingly, not surprised to feel that the cab was still filled with the heater's warmth; he hadn't been waiting too long.
He walked around the car and she watched him with a toothless smirk on her face, brushing the stray hairs idly out of her bright eyes as he slid into the driver's seat. He said something about it being cold and she almost laughed; his accent was quite adorable to her. Maybe that was why his arrogance was funny. He couldn't say it and make it sound mean. Then again, perhaps if he was in a rotten mood she might think differently, but time would likely tell that. "True that." she said mildly, caught up in her own thoughts. As his car accelerated towards the freeway and he turned the music up, she took the hint and settled comfortably into the passenger seat and basked in the warmth before they would have to climb out again at the restaurant. She stretched her legs as far as they would go and sighed quietly, smiling again to herself at the whole situation. The date hadn't even started and already she was enjoying herself. Well, hopefully he would, too, at some point.
--
She wasn't sure how long she'd been at it, but as he pulled up to an intersection she realized she'd fallen asleep. Fortunately she hadn't been snoring or drooling or let her head bang against the window, but she rubbed her eyes and glanced quickly over at him and then back out the window. She could see the restaurant just up the next block, the lighted sign and semi-full outdoor patio telling of its popularity. She cleared her throat (likely unheard over the music) and straightened her hair rather quickly as it turned green and they moved towards the entrance. She straightened in the seat, somewhat confused at how she could have possibly fallen asleep during the drive. Considering the fact that she was going on a rare date with an attractive man she'd had to con into coming, you would have thought her nerves would have been enough to keep her conscious. Good thing she'd taken some daytime flu medications before leaving else she would likely be in a worse state.
"Well that went quicker than I thought, we're here already." she said with an upbeat tone, watching as he pulled into the lot. She'd never been here before so wasn't sure if they had valet or if he parked himself, so she decided not to do anything until he did. Obviously she wouldn't be getting out unless he stopped anyway, but she realized he would likely open the door to let her out considering he'd opened it to let her in. Figuring it was better than sitting like a brainless duck she just went ahead and asked. "So do they valet here or what's the plan?" she asked as the car slowed and they drew closer, her eyes moving from the view in front to his sharp features beside her. Even if he didn't realize he was lucky to be out with her, she felt lucky to be out with him. He hadn't been forced to fall into her little trap, in fact he could have shot her down completely, but he hadn't, and when she thought of it a smile slowly crept onto her face again. She really needed to get hold of this smiling nonsense. when that day comes look into my eyes no one's giving up quite yet we've got too much to lose

did you dream that the world would know your name? - - - - - - - - - - He had been quite surprised at how quiet she was being, from what he knew she wasn't a very quiet person and always had something to say. He didn't dare break the silence, he didn't want to really talk so it didn't bother him. The sound of the purring engine of his car and the faint blurred words of music was all he really needed, not true silence but it was enough to be qualified as it. Most were quiet around him anyways, finding his arrogance and bluntness intimidating at best. Roman didn't seem to be affected by that like the others, which is why his curiosity was being fed as the minutes passed without her even trying to start a conversation with him. After several minutes had passed, he looked over and noticed she was asleep. Raising a brow to himself, he chuckled under his breath and continued on. He wouldn't complain, he didn't even have to try and find ways to avoid conversation now. Though it was quite brave of her to fall asleep with him behind the wheel, for all she knew he could be a psychopathic driver and they could get in to a wreak at any seconds. He found it just a bit weird that she was relaxed and trusted enough with him to actually fall asleep. Turning up the radio slightly so he could actually make sense out of what they were saying, he continued his way down the open free way.
Pulling in to an intersection, her moving was caught in the corner of his eye. She cleared her throat quietly, and most would take that as a hint to talk. He chose to ignore it, to go on like he hadn't heard it. Making things easier for himself if he did that, slowing down slightly as he pulled on to the road he scanned the buildings knowing that the restaurant wasn't far now. Pulling in to the parking lot, she spoke and broke the comfortable silence he had through the whole drive down. Brown eyes looked over at her with the same emptiness as usual, raising an eyebrow at her as he made his way through the crowded parking lot quite carefully. “Well, I'd assume it'd feel that way considering you fell asleep for most of the drive here,” he said, and looked over at her once more and raised a brow. “It'd also be another ten minute drive if I believed in speed limits,” he added.
Her comment wondering if there were valets made him laughing lightly under his breath. They probably did, and he had no doubt in his mind that it was a possibility. But here was no way in hell he was letting anyone else drive his car. That was his, and no one else was allowed to touch it but him. “Probably. But no one drives my car but me,” he said firmly, finding a parking spot that wasn't too far away from the restaurant he killed the engine and glanced out the window. It was cold outside, and he really didn't want to go back outside. He was a baby about the cold, sucking up his unhappiness about having to go back outside he slid from the comfortable leather seat in to the chilly Fall air. For a moment he contemplated just letting her get out of the car by herself, he had let her in, and he might as well continue to be a gentlemen (he didn't know how long he could do that for) and let her out too. Striding around the car easily with his hands shoved in his pockets, he took them out to open the door. Most would offer her a hand getting out, anything that required physical contact was something Devin shied back from. Closing the door behind her and locking the car, he shoved his keys in his pockets (along with his hands once more) before looking over at her and making his way toward the restaurant.
Making his way in, an overly cheery waitress greeted them and lead them off to a cozy booth by the window. He was glad that the heat was cranked up, it gave him a good reason to want to be here, being warm and all. Sliding in to the booth, he shifted and watched the waitress leave with slightly narrowed eyes before looking through the menu. Most would cringe at the prices of the food, but he didn't care. “Order whatever you please, don't hold back at all. Alright?” Glancing up at Roman for a moment, he wondered if he'd get lucky again and have her fall asleep while eating dinner.

R O M A N His response brought a rare blush to her fair cheeks and she smiled sheepishly, ”Sorry about that. Don’t know what came over me.” she said dismissively, turning her head to look out at the view around her. He was moving quite slowly through the parking lot and it was no sooner that she asked about valets that he laughed unexpectedly. ”I don’t blame you,” she said compliantly, ”With a car like this I don’t think I’d like any sticky fingers touching the keys either.” she finished up, pondering his comment about speed limits without speaking on it. That, too, made sense considering the engine that was surely under the gleaming hood of the curvy little car. As expected, he slid quite easily into a parking place and promptly headed around the car to open the door for her. She noticed he again avoided making physical contact with her but was not quite troubled by it. She stepped confidently out, adjusting her coat and hidden dress beneath before pacing off quickly behind him towards the doors. It was bright and quite snug inside, something she was happy for, and smiled brightly at the cheery waitress despite Devin’s cold shoulder. It really quite amused her, and she always wanted to laugh at him when he acted so nastily towards anyone, including herself. She felt confident his attitude wasn’t due to anything positive happening in his life, but she appreciated him for the way he was despite not knowing him for very long at all.
They were shown to a table and the waitress seemed disgruntled by Devin’s attitude, so she decided mentally she’d be tipping her pretty well. As she paced off, Devin slid in and went immediately to looking through his menu and made a remark about her ordering whatever she wanted without holding back. She laughed quietly now, obviously not trying to hide it in the least. ”I would have to say the same for you.” she said cheerily, her eyes bright as she slowly shrugged the black coat off to reveal the glistening white dress beneath. ”I’m pretty sure I was the instigator of the date, so I can assure you that this is my treat, not yours.” she wrapped up discreetly so as not to embarrass him too much, still chuckling as her shoulders were first exposed and then the slender dress she’d been keeping secret. It had a largely open back as well as a slit front, diamonds playing across her chest to keep the open front more modest and less skimpy. It reached almost to the floor and when she leaned forward to press the coat into the corner of the booth it shimmered in places that hadn’t looked so shimmery before. Dark curls fell across her face and shoulders as she leaned to raise the dress and slide in, a slender leg visible for only a moment before she was soon seated across from him. Roman sighed, moving the stray hair out of her face and picking up her own menu, ignoring the table of fellows that now were sniggering and looking quite openly in her direction.
”If you’d like to get the tip, though, you may feel free.” she said daintily but firmly, hoping to have snapped the conversation shut at that moment. She offered a sly grin before returning her attention back to the menu. Her eyes moved slowly from one thing to the next having never eaten here before, but she figured she could settle for a little champagne and a good medium steak and be happy. Salad, obviously, would be in the equation. Roman was hardly one to skimp on a meal, in fact if anything her appetite had exploded in the past few months and the only thing which kept her from suspecting pregnancy was the fact that she hadn’t gotten laid in so long. She had a busy work season throughout the warm months of the year; the winter was her only respite from long travels and strenuous excursions. ”Do you like champagne?” she asked before he had too much time to get irritated, ”We can split a bottle if you’d like. I’m a fan of Grande Siecle myself, but I’m pretty flexible.” she said conversationally, crossing her shapely legs beneath the table but being careful not to bump him with her high heel. It was obvious to her he didn’t like being touched, so she would respect that as much as possible. At least, until she could convince him otherwise. when that day comes look into my eyes no one's giving up quite yet we've got too much to lose

did you dream that the world would know your name? - - - - - - - - - - Looking over his menu at her, he wasn't all that sure why she was laughing at him now. Narrowing his eyes at her slightly at the fact, he waited for her to explain it to him. She didn't seem like one who would laugh at him without telling him why, or at least he hoped she wasn't because that bothered the shit out of him. He raised a brow at the comment about her paying, and that just wasn't going to fly. Although he hadn't been brought up that well, his nanny had tried to teach him the best that she could. Some things had warn off on him, yet the most important aspects hadn't. “No. You're not paying,” he said sternly, setting his menu down to watch her. “It's on me, end of story and no arguing.” There was no way he was going to allow her to win this, shifting in his chair he met her glance for a moment and looked down at his menu. She made a comment about him catching the tip, and he watched her again. She wasn't going to pay for a single thing, not in his books. “I'll pay for the meal and the tip. You're not paying,” he repeated, being sure to try and get the point across.
Flickering through the pages of his menu, he looked back up to notice her taking off her coat. Like any male, he openly watched her strip the article of clothing of. He hadn't been expecting her to be wearing something quite that nice, which caught him a bit by surprise. Letting his eyes sweep over her body, he took in her stunning features. He had noticed that she was good looking, but he hadn't ever really taken the time to notice how good looking she was. Glancing back down at his menu to make sure that he didn't look like he was really staring too obviously (though he had a feeling she had probably already noticed). Looking over her shoulder at the people staring at her from behind, he narrowed his eyes at them threateningly. One of them noticed, getting the point and they stopped snickering and glancing in her direction, going back to eating. It pleased him, and he watched them for another moment before looking back at her face. “Champagne is alcohol, therefore yes. I'm not too picky about what kind, as long as it's good,” he said, shrugging at her suggestion of Grande Siecle. “Grande Siecle it is.”
The waitress returned with the same large (fake, at least he thought) grin on her face. She studied the two for a moment, before asking if they wanted to order anything to drink.
“Bring us a bottle of Grande Siecle,” he said shortly, looking at the waitress challengingly. She gave him a look, but stalked off to find them a bottle. Shifting in his chair once more, he continued to flick through his menu, undecided on what he wanted to eat. He was leaning more toward a steak or something of the sort, it was the only thing that really appealed to him on the menu at this current point. He was weird about what he ate in a sense, he would eat pretty much anything, it just depended on what mood he was in, almost making him quite a picky eater. Setting his menu down, he glanced at Roman for a moment then at the approaching waitress. She set down the bottle and two glasses, before rushing away, not giving them a chance to even thank her (well, it's not like Devin was going to). Slightly amused by how quickly she left the table, he pushed the one of the empty glasses in her direction slightly.

R O M A N Much like the men nearby, Devin watched her quite obviously remove her coat, but the way he looked back at his menu suggested he hadn’t intended to look quite so intently, either that or he hadn’t expected her to look as good as she knew she did. Regardless, he had enough respect not to look distastefully, and she suppressed a smile as the men grew silent and she noticed Devin looking quite nastily in their direction. He seemed to have a knack for making people cringe from a simple expression. Roman was a tad flattered by this, but again let it go as if moving right over her head. She sat comfortably in the meantime, and when he immediately objected quite strongly to her paying for the date she merely looked up, smiling coyly at him without saying a word. He made her smile, and his adamance only served to amuse her further. She never thought she’d find such a seemingly uptight man to be so incredibly adorable. Perhaps if he was unable to shake her in time it might become tiring, but for the time being she liked the challenge and the completely different personality type.
”Agreed.” she said simply in regard to the alcohol, eyes bright and smirk unfading as he continued to peruse the menu. When the waitress returned and he asked (demanded rather) for a bottle of said champagne Roman offered her a faint expression of encouragement before the girl turned quickly to return with the bottle and leave again. He slid a glass forward in a nonchalant manner, as if he really believed his words were the final words. He really didn’t realize who he was tangling with here, so she pondered taking it easy on him for a moment before figuring it was too cute for him to be frustrated. She’d be paying. Roman nodded appreciatively at him, taking the bottle and pouring herself a hearty glass before gesturing the same to him. She poured his own glass, stopping when he’d had enough and setting the bottle carefully out of the way. She cleared her throat before taking a sip of the extremely pricy liquid and closed her eyes as it slid down her throat. She couldn’t help letting out a quiet ‘yum’; she hardly drank the stuff since it was in fact so expensive, but she liked to drink it in company rather than alone. There was something just a tiny bit pathetic about drinking a bottle by herself.
Setting the glass down, she quickly browsed the menu again despite knowing what she wanted; perhaps she ought to go for something a little more typical like a salad or something, but her gut was really craving the nutrition of a mouth watering tenderloin. Yes, she’d stick with that. A good hearty dinner of steak, potatoes and greens. Yes, this dainty girl can put it away quite nicely. She had to in order to keep up with her line of work.
While a bus boy conveniently brought out a small loaf of gourmet bread and spread, she looked across at Devin and aimed to get the conversation going. ”So, Devin, what do you do aside from give away nice horses and drive fast cars?” she asked curiously, laying the cloth napkin provided across her lap and setting her utensils to the side. She picked a slice of bread from the small cutting board and lay it in front of her to nibble at while they conversed. Her crossed leg bounced idly beneath the table and she leaned slightly against the booth’s cushioned back to watch him closely. She hadn’t been on a date in quite awhile, so she intended to soak up every moment of it with pleasure. Plus, Devin caught her interest in a way that not many guys could; she couldn’t read him, she didn’t know what to expect, and the fact that he seemed legitimately uninterested in her was truly a first for the attractive young woman. when that day comes look into my eyes no one's giving up quite yet we've got too much to lose

did you dream that the world would know your name? - - - - - - - - - - Taking the glass of golden liquid, he watched the bubbles slowly rise to the top. Moving the cup around on the table, allowing small waves to form without spilling from the rim of the glass. Glancing up at her as she took a deep sip, evidently she liked it. Bringing the glass to his own lips, he did the same. He couldn't help but to agree, it was definitely delicious. Continuing to sip away at the drink, he finally set his menu down, completely decided on the steak. Shifting in the thickly padded chair, he looked over at the boy who left them a fresh, warm loaf of bread before walking off. Like Roman, he helped himself to a piece and buttered it. Laughing lightly at her question, he shrugged his shoulders. Swallowing the mouthful he was chewing, he took a moment to think of an answer for that one. “That pretty much sums it up. I ride my other nice horses, and beat my stallion for being an asshole on and daily basis.”
Out of his many horses, his stallion was probably the most difficult by far. All of the others went the way he wanted, constantly behaving (or at least making the effort too) and going around over everything. But Vendi decided to rebel lately, and it was growing tiresome. He hadn't been too keen on the idea of buying him either way, but at the time he had wanted a grand prix horse to go right in to the ring on. Conveniently he was that, showing around the grand prix going clear, sound and flashy. His gelding wouldn't ever be a grand prix horse, eventing ran through his veins, and as much as Devin hated it there was something about him where he simply refused to part after all the years he had hauled his ass safely over every fence. But he'd let the stallion stick around for a bit longer, seeing if he could continue to prove himself worthy while Mirro built her way up to being a grand prix horse.
“And what about you?” He asked, raising a brow at her. “You have to do more than taking nice horses from people and arguing with them about paying for dinner. Well, at least I'd hope so,” he mused. Taking another deep drink of his champagne, he glanced around the bustling restaurant once again. Back home they never were this busy, but then again he had hardly ever bother to go out to restaurants. Everyone seemed to just prefer eating a home in his small town. Living out as far back as he did, it was quite a drive to get in to town anyways. But moving to the states and becoming more 'americanized' he had decided that cooking for himself was too much effort (which he could do quite well) and loved the new option of being lazy.
Waiting for her answer, his eyes wandered to her dress for a moment once more. Helping himself to another piece of bread, he looked over at the almost nervous appearing waitress. Standing there with her notepad clenched in her hand, she cautiously asked what they'd like. “A medium sized steak... well done.”
If there was one thing that he was picky about, was the way his meat was done. Especially if he was going to be paying a decent amount for it.

anywhere you go anyone you meet remember that your eyes can be your enemies
hold me down, sweet and low little girl, hold me down, and i will carry you h o m e
R O M A N With a pleasant smile laugh and evidently uncommon smile Devin shrugged at her question and she smiled in response to his answer as she slowly tore her bread into smaller pieces and placed them accordingly on the small plate in front of her. It was a subconscious motion she'd done she she was a child and it had driven her parents crazy - up until they died anyway. It was a habit she never changed, and now that they were gone it only seemed to make her feel closer to them every time she thought of her mother scoffing at the way her daughter would shred her food in nice restaurants before eating it. As the last of it was split into pieces, she popped a chuck into her mouth and chewed quickly while he talked, enjoying watching the upturn to his mouth spread into that rare smile.
She arched her brow before offering a shrug and a laugh to go along with his statement; that was really a little humorous. It was no wonder he looked so uptight, he was just so damn bored! She didn't know what she'd do with herself if she had all that time. Then again, she supposed it would just leave more time for competing. She'd probably ride her poor horse - now horses - into the ground if she had nothing better to do than ride. He turned the question to herself and she swallowed the bread, reaching over to take another sip of her delectable champagne as if she really had to think about it. She didn't miss him checking her out subtly, but before she had the chance to set her glass down and answer the waitress was back along with Devin's icy tone.
"I'll have a steak as well, large tenderloin, but cook it medium, I like a little pink in the middle. Loaded baked potato and greens for sides, and I'd like a side of greens to take home if you don't mind. Don't worry about it until we get the check, though; I like 'em warm. Oh, and another loaf of this bread, it's fantastic." she said reassuringly, patting her on the arm comfortingly before the young woman twirled quickly away. She cleared her throat, feeling only slightly awkward about ordering so much so explicitly in front of him. She hoped she didn't look like a massive pig to him now, but then again she was hungry and her appetite only seemed to be growing lately. Now that the summer seasons had pilfered off, though, her metabolism would start to slow a little and she'd have to re-start her workout routine to stay in shape for Spring. Time would tell.
"Anyway," she said clearly, getting back to the conversation, "I actually do some work myself, as a professional tour guide." she said carefully, as if she didn't want to hear any crap about it. In truth she really didn't mind and was more tan used to being laughed at before being asked if that was really a job, much less one that payed. In all truth she had cash coming out of her ears considering the expeditions she guided, but that wasn't something she flaunted openly. Sure she had a nice truck and trailer and a Friesian Sport Horse stallion booked up in the best barn in Texas, but pretty much anyone could have that. "And what makes you think I was arguing? There is no debate when it comes to what's settled, but again, we can let that go for now." she finished with an impish smirk before picking up another piece of the brown bread and popping it into her mouth. She decided not to elaborate because it was more than likely he would ask about it, so she chewed and sipped on her ever-delectable champagne and looked about curiously at the other people chatting away at their tables. She liked to make up stories about them sometimes, but she never told anyone that; it was something she let herself get carried away with when she was bored. when that day comes look into my eyes no one's giving up quite yet we've got too much to lose

did you dream that the world would know your name? - - - - - - - - - - For a moment he just studied her curiously as she ordered a huge dinner. The last time he had went out with someone they had ordered a drink and that had been it. To Devin that had been a bit weird, but he hadn't said anything about it. Quite frankly, he didn't care if the girl didn't eat, at the time he had just been out to simply prove a point to his brother. Raising an eyebrow at her, he didn't want to admit it but slight curiosity grew inside of him toward the girl. Allowing himself to scan her over once more, taking in the more simple details like the shape of her lips and cheekbones. For most it was hard to believe, but the self brooding male was quite observant. He saw the little details that some often missed and looked past (or at least for the most part). Reaching up for the bottle of champagne, he poured more of the golden liquid in to the cup. Topping it up and taking another deep sip. In the back of his throat a certain thirst was beginning to grow, one that couldn't be cured by champagne. He almost wanted something much stronger. Taking his better judgement and not asking for anything more, he'd wait until he got home. Shifting in his chair, cool brown eyes softened slightly as he listened to her speak.
“A tour guide?” He said slowly, furrowing his brow slightly. He had never actually met someone with an occupation of the sort. “Where were you showing people around?” He asked, for once he found himself trying to contribute in the conversation. He chucked under her breath at the way she had said it, that she actually worked for herself, to have a living. Devin hadn't ever had to work a day in his life, and judging by the in inheritance he was left when his parents finally were sent to his grave, he never would. Not that he minded one bit, in all honesty he didn't have the drive to find a job that suited his fancy.
“Because you seem like the type who argues a lot,” he said simply. “Yes, the fact that I am paying has been settled, and I'm glad you agree on it.” His eyes flashing in her direction challengingly as he straightened his shoulders, sitting up a bit taller. Determination set through his features, he wouldn't let her pay. Cutting himself another piece of bread and buttering it, he glanced over as she cut hers apart on her plate and began to eat it. He was beginning to grow more hungry, and impatient- the half ass lunch he had prepared for himself wasn't doing him enough. Sighing to himself impatiently, he looked over in the waitresses direction, unimpressed to see that she most definitely wasn't bringing food in their direction. Patience was something he lacked.
“So. You said you were a tour guide. You must have travelled a lot, where have you been?”

R O M A N She watched him take another drink of the champagne and was pleased by it; she liked that he liked it. He settled more comfortably into his chair and she liked this as well, seeing as it showed he was relaxing a little and becoming more comfortable with her company. As predicted, mention of her occupation sparked interest and he seemed instantly curious. Not something she'd seen on his face before, so again she was pleased by this. She'd proposed a champagne he enjoyed, he was relaxing, and now he actually wanted to know something about her. He caught the comment about dinner, though, and promptly blazed with stubbornness (much like her own) she didn't think twice about challenging. She just smiled at him, enjoying his efforts at being sure he paid for dinner. She chuckled, figuring she'd let him think he could do what he wanted when he wanted. "I argue when I feel my point is worth arguing." she said daintily, playing with the bread on her plate before he continued to inquire about her profession.
Admittedly she had a passion for what she did and had been doing it since she was a child, although at that time it obviously hadn't been professionally. She switched legs under the table, her eyes brightening before she leaned across the table just slightly to speak with her hands as well as her mouth. She leaned her elbows on it, brandishing with her hands as she began to speak. "Well my specialty is caving." she said with excited eyes; it was true, she'd been caving since she was old enough to climb over a rock, and her discovery of a whole new network at only the tender age of fifteen had gotten her plenty of attention for it. Admittedly it had been the most trying month of her life before the loss of her parents, but it had been a blessing in disguise. "I guide pretty much any mountain range you can think of, plus whatever networks might be in them." she started, hoping she didn't get too carried away with her stories. "Caves and mountains, though, aren't my limit!" She said matter-of-factly, continuing without hesitation, "I work the Amazon, the Tepuis of Venezuela, the Congo, all the major ones and a lot of less heard of ones. Most of the time, though, it isn't the mainstream touring I do. My tours are more like expeditions, and most of the time I take under-groomed horny scientists who are only distracted by my ass when some odd species of spider isn't occupying them." she said humorously, not letting her mind flicker to a time when one of her said tours took a turn for the sinister.
She'd handled her own pretty well, and fortunately the second and third men who had been with her had more conscience than the first. Needless to say she pummeled the shit out of him before his comrades stepped in to save him. She'd been seconds away from her ice pick. "I'm fine with mainstream though, too. In the off times sometimes I'll do the fannypackers for fun. Safaris in Australia and Africa, hell, I parked at the Grand Canyon for awhile and did donkey rides before I moved back to Texas!" she laughed, leaning back into her booth and reaching for another drink of champagne. Glancing over she noticed the nervous waitress finally bringing out the food, hers obviously taking up a much larger portion of the tray she balanced precariously in one hand with a tray stand in the other. Placing her glass down, Roman moved the small plate covered with bread pieces off to the side to make room. "Just in time, I was beginning to think my stomach was going to start in on itself." she said with a joking smile to the waitress who smiled gratefully in return. She apparently was quite afraid of Devin.
She placed the food neatly onto their table and Roman took a good look, realizing in earnest how famished she really was. Had she eaten anything after returning home from the barn? She couldn't remember. She'd fallen asleep pretty quickly. Was it normal to be sleeping so much? She would have to get a handle on this flu before the tourism season really boomed back to life. She couldn't be getting sick or light headed while attempting to scale a sheer faced rock wall. That would be an unfortunate situation.
