NAMYA IPSITA SHARMA
YOU GOT TO KEEP YOUR EYES ON ME,
The door of the sleek, silver BMW clicked shut, a gloved finger pressing down on the lock button on the fob key. The car flashed it's orange lights and buzzed in agreement, locking it's doors. Stopping anyone from getting inside without the key. With that the key was placed back inside the coat pocket and the owner continued to stride towards the barn, not looking back to check her car was locked. She knew it would be. She went through a phase of locking the car and then checking and double checking that it was shut tight, but she needn't do that know. As long as she heard the sound of the car pulling down it's locks she knew it would be safe to leave it. And no she hadn't prized open daddy's wallet for this sleek convertible. She had brought it off her own back. The next step was a decent horse box, the one she had was slowly starting to fall apart. But she liked the room it had, a 5 horse box with a 4 man living quarters. To buy a modern version one of them would set her back more than she had at the moment. So she would have to use the box a bit longer. She had a smaller trailer, one to tow to shows, but normally if she was showing one, she was going to show them all. Thinking about her horses, she better go see to them. As she walked into to the barn she was greeted by the sweet smell of haylage and apple chaff.
Smiling she walked through the barn, remembering where her horses stalls were exactly. She let her hand stoke horses' heads as they poked over the top of their stable doors. Some whickered greetings to her as she passed them. These horses she stroked more affectionately, saying hello back. Soon she reached her horses. First was Axelt, then Tiger and then Tinkerbell. Axel, the ever cheeky yearling, bolted his head over the door and started lipping her coat hood. Namya batted him away, he reacted by throwing his head and returning his head, and trying to rub into her. Namya positioned herself out of his way and scratched his head. He needed turning out, he was not used to being cooped up indoors. She grabbed his head collar and opened his stable door. The colt patiently stood as she slipped her head collar over his head and proceeded to lead him out into the barn isle. Excitedly the colt jogged out beside her, throwing his head in excitement and unable to keep his feet from prancing as she closed his stable door. Ignoring his antics she lead him towards the fields. She had been told where she could turn him out and she found the correct field. There were two other young colts in there, about his age which would be good for him. He would stay out here until he was a three year old and ready to back. Coming in for regular handling and farriery and the ever hated vets. But other than that he would be out here. Possibly when the weather was extremely bad. But she didn't yet know the catastrophic winter weather Crossifre had to endure. Opening the gate to the field she turned Axel around and undid his head collar, setting him free to make friends as he pleased. She closed the gate as she walked out and hung the head collar outside on the gate along with his lead rope. She turned to watch him for a while, smiling as he cantered over to the other two youngsters in the field. They too responded and crowded around each other, squealing as they identified each other's limits. Once they had established themselves Axel nosed about in the grass, unsure whether if he wanted to eat grass or play with his new friends. Deciding on the latter her threw his head up and bombed around the pasture, the two other youngsters tailing shortly behind. Bucking and squealing gleefully, Namya left them to it, knowing that Axel would soon tire of his games and settle down. Until tomorrow, when the games would start again and he would go for hours on end.
Namya made her way back into the barn, her hand running affectionately over Tinkerbell's droopy head. She looked weary, but contented. Her ears perked as Namya tickled her behind her chin. This was the mare's favourite spot. Next door, Tiger grew anxious and began to weave, dying for attention. Aftera few more moments fussing Tinkerbell she moved to Tiger. Worried he'd get himself whiplash from all that neck movement. Today she was going to let him out into one of the outdoor arena's, just for some loose schooling. Or well a muck around. She didn't plan on riding him or lunging him, but he needed to get out and used to the arenas here. She grabbed the leather halter hanging beside the stallion's stable and slipped it over his head, which he now kept still. She opened the stable door and clicked for the stallion to exit. Obediently the stallion swung his hindquarters around, allowing her to close the stable door behind her. Tinkerbell whinnied as they made their way out of the barn. "We'll be back soon, Tinks." Namya called back to the mare, she would let her out to pasture once they were back. Due to her previous tendon injury she couldn't be out too long, plus she was also pregnant and wanted to introduce her to the grass here gradually. Axel's gut was subject to change and he wouldn't just keep eating, but Tinkerbell would, as the mare had nothing else to do other than eat.
As they left the barn and headed out towards the outdoor arena's Tiger walked briskly by her side. Not jogging, he never jogged, she had firmly implanted that in his mind, they would trot if she asked for it and walk when she asked for it. But never jog. Jogging meant over excitement and worked up horses. Which always meant sweaty horses. Shortly they had arrived at the first outdoor school. It was empty and it was certainly small enough to let her horse loose in. She didn't want to take up the bigger arenas just to free school her horse. Walking into the sandy school she closed the gate and patted the tri coloured stallion on the neck. Namya unclipped the lead rope and watched admiringly as the stallion trotted off. His nose to the ground as he trotted around the arena, taking in all the scents of the other horses. He was so beautiful. She had always loved coloured horses and to breed them was just what she wanted to do in life. Not that her family approved.
Namya moved to the fence of the arena, climbing up she perched on the top rail, which was quite high up. Assuring her that Tiger would stay in the arena, content that the arena held much more interest than anything outside it. Although the interest of the sand slowly wore off. Holding his head high, Tiger cantered around the arena with his tail flagged, whinnying desperately at the other horses working in other arenas or those that were out at pasture. He got few replies. He wasn't the only stallion at this yard. Although, slightly biased, Namya thought he was possibly the most stunning. Was he the only coloured stallion at Crossfire? Possibly. She had seen few other coloured's here and the ones she had seen she was unsure if they were stallion's, mares or geldings or not. She hadn't took too much interest in them to look. But if there were coloured mares that owners possibly may want to breed in the future, Namya was the one to come to. After all she had Tiger. And he was readily sought after as a breeding stallion. And she had an example of his offspring in Axel, who was just as gorgeous as his father. And was showing the same quality movement. Her thoughts turned back to the stallion in front of her. He was standing now, squarely standing in the corner, watching the other horses around him. And proudly she looked on. He was all hers.
