SIERRA SIMONE
"LONNIE"
Her dirty blonde hair was swept up into a ponytail keeping it out of her green eyes, brown full seat breeches and a white cotton shirt along with paddock boots kept her comfortable in the stunning autumn weather Texas seemed to be experiencing. The rain seemed to be staying away for now and only mild sunlight along with cool breezes kept the atmosphere ideal for all sorts of activities. She'd had the bay mustang stallion who now cantered swiftly about the round pen for the tenth time for roughly two months and he seemed to be making enormous progress. She'd been a shattered mess when he arrived, but with the two months of intense and steady training she'd been pouring into the muscular wild horse she felt like she was indeed in a better place than before. He now would willingly accept a halter and lead pressure as well as change directions according to a slight touch or her body language as well as light grooming with a brush. She could fling a rop around his neck, barrel, and hindquarters, as well as run a whip down all four of his legs without him becoming too uncomfortable. The stallion was proving to be extremely responsive and intelligent, learning very quickly and always conscious of where she stood in accordance to himself.[/blockquote]
He cantered another loop and then lowered his starred head and began to lick his lips in submission, and immediately Lonnie's gaze lowered and she backed away, releasing the pressure and turning her back to him. Immediately, he fell into place and jogged over to her, placing his mealy muzzle against her arm before lowering his head and sighing contentedly. She couldn't hide the grin as it crossed her face and turned slowly, reaching out to stroke the thick neck only two months before she couldn't have gotten near to. Logan really was making tremendous progress; she couldn't wait to start him under saddle. With the stallion calm and submissive, fully focused on herself, she walked over to the fence and reached through for a curry comb before walking lightly back over to the stallion. He eyed her warily a first, but soon was leaning into the circular motions as she ran the comb first from the top of his neck all the way down to his hindquarters. He was learning to love it.
She groomed him from head to toe, taking care not to startle him as she handled his legs; he seemed to be very sensitive here and she didn't blame him. In the wild, letting something touch one's legs could lead to certain death if he wasn't careful. He responded beautifully, and Lonnie was proud to see that his mahogany coat had some sheen to it now. With a richer diet and high quality hay and grazing the stallion had really flourished under her care. He hadn't been unhealthy before, but he looked less rugged than he had when she'd brought him home. She left his mane and tail its natural length, though he'd lost a few inches when she'd wrestled through it the first time to make it stay smooth. A few months of conditioners and he would have a nicer mane than any of the show horses in the barn, she was sure of it.
She sighed as she finished, every session with the horse seemed to be more and more therapeutic for her and so, with both of them calm and collected, she figured today was the day to start introducing tack. She walked over to the pole fencing and reached carefully through for the navajo blanket she'd picked up from a local tack shop. She'd brought a cheap and light english saddle to practice with if they got that far, but for now she only wanted to practice sacking him out with the blanket and see how things went. Preparing herself, she leaned against the fence and watched the stallion as he watched her, usnure of what she was about to do with the brightly red and white striped blanket.
