Nice relaxing day at the barn (open to anyone)

The barn was quiet besides the sound of rain hitting the roof , the occasional snort of a horse and some nickers here and there. A mud covered red chevy truck slowly became visible as it pulled up to the barn, parking as close to the entrance as allowed. The woman inside putting a purple vest on over her black long sleeve shirt. The truck door opens quickly, the woman jumping out and closing it just as fast as she lightly jogs into the barn with her arms over her head. Once in she slows down to a casual walk, wiping some drops of rain off her face. It was a little later in the afternoon yet it was dark out because of all the rain clouds, it was almost warm because of the humidity yet still chilly. The woman stops about six stalls away from where her horse was who hadn't noticed she was here yet, the woman reaches into her back pocket pulling a nice big juicy carrot out, putting it in both hands before breaking it in half. The geldings ears purk up instantly and he sticks his head out of his stall and looks straight at his owner, ears forward, eyes wide, he lets out a loud whinney in his excitement.

The woman walks over to him taking her time, once at his still she reaches out with half the carrot and lets the gelding snatch it up and gobble it down in no time, she waits a second and gives him the other half. Her hand sliding from his nose up to his forelock and back as she rubbs his head gently. She then grabs the leather halter off his stall door and goes inside, sliding it onto his head before walking him out, she walks him towards the tack room and cross ties him. She wasn't planning on riding today instead she just wanted to relax, groom him, then polish her dark leather saddle, it needed it. She disappears in the tack room for only a moment before coming out with a box of grooming supplies, reaching in the box she pulls out a pair of wireless clippers and clips his fetlocks, whiskers and ears, the gelding simply relaxes during all this not caring in the least bit.


She was the last person in the world to care if her horse was shaggy or not which he was and is, but she always liked to keep his fetlocks and whiskers under control and if he'd tolerate her clipping his ears why not. She takes her time grooming the gelding from head to hoof, even though he had his shaggy winter coat he looked good. She puts all her supplies back in the box before giving her gelding another carrot, going into the tack room she comes out with a saddle stand and her heavy cutting saddle on top of it. She reaches into her grooming supplies box until grabbing a bottle of leather conditioner and a rag and proceeds to sit there and clean her saddle, with her free hand she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a head phone sticking it in one ear and turns her ipod on, turning it to breakaway by kelly clarkson, just felt like a good song to listen to, as she begins to relax thinking know ones around she starts singing along with the song, not loudly but extremely quietly but still someone near her could hear, but the only ones around her were horses and that didn't bother her one bit.

EMMA.

Fuck school and homework, what good was it doing her anyways? Not much, no matter how hard she tried her grades were in the gutter. New horse she wanted so badly, according to mom and dad was not happening. No fancy warmblood coming her way anytime soon, which of course was a piss off but she was dealing. Emma had changed her mind anyways, she didn’t want a warmblood. Sassi could keep doing the 2ft6 hunter classes, she wanted a cutting horse. She had ridden a few of the working type horses back home at the trainers. She had schooled on her coaches stud by Smart Little Lena and had loved every second of it, the more she thought about it the more she wanted a horse she could show cutting and cow events, perhaps it would even rein for her. She would always have Sassi, she was the ultimate show horse when it came to main ring and she loved the reining stuff but certainly wasn’t bred the same as the other horses in there. She was by Banks Assets, her dam’s name slipped the girls mind but that wasn’t important. The mare was well bred, well schooled and well showed, quality enough to reproduce herself one day Emma would be holding onto her forever. Though she had started looking at cutting and cow horses and a few colts had caught her eye, she had emailed her trainer the change of plans a few nights ago and already gotten the names of a few horses to try. Regardless of what her parents said she would be getting a new horse, hell she was passing school what else could they ask for? She was on her way to the barn, her pickup was her current favourite car, she had traded her convertible in for it last week. Winter was coming and she was enjoying her four wheel drive duelie much better, radio cranked and she sang along. Rain pounded down on the window so she took her time, the barn had a few cars in the lot she managed to snag a good parking spot though. Dash from the car to the barn was fast and made the girl laugh, she was in a decent mood even if life wasn’t going her way.

She strode down the aisle way, i-pod playing in her ears she was smiling. Her features wore the smile so well, long blonde hair was pulled back in a ponytail under one of her favourite hats of all time. She had a few more in the same style that were bedazzled, they were in her show stuff somewhere. Long hair fell down her back in waves in her pony tail, she would have to cut it a little before show season or wear it in a bun she hadn’t decided which to do yet. Legs were long for her height and small in her size one jeans – all muscle though. She wore a grey long sleeve, which she had pulled up in to three quarters and a brown vest from American eagle. Her arriats were her all time favourite boots, brown and blue were the ones she was wearing today, ball spurs klinked at her heels. Her belt was bedazzled, another horseshow purchase she loved, she had a few more in different colors and designs at home but the brown seemed to tie things together. She headed to the tack room, and grabbed the mares work tack plus a pulling comb. Before she worked her she would pull the mares mane a little, there were just a few pieces to be done. Sassi had been clipped last week, she was sleek and short coated all year round thanks to Emma’s constant body clips over the cold seasons. The mare was good about having her mane pulled, she usually stood pretty still and her hair came out pretty easily.

Packing her Dale Chavez work saddle and training bridal with a twisted snaffle she had a black saddle pad under one arm and had to go back to loop her martingale over her shoulder. She headed to the mare’s stall, the set of cross ties were just a stall down and occupied, a lady was cleaning a pretty nice looking cutting saddle. Looking the horse over once Emma could see he was a quarter horse, and could see how he was bred differently from Sassi instantly. She wanted a horse like him for her next purchase, except maybe something with a bit more chrome and a deeper liver chestnut or maybe something in black. A black gelding would look wonderful in pictures with her and Sassi, all she knew was she didn’t want anything in palomino or grey, a roan might fly if it was really pretty. Ultimately personality won, but color would mould her searching as well. She looked to the girl who was singing along to her music quietly, pretty nice voice she had herself, and Emma recognized the song too. Smiling she offered a friendly face, though didn’t speak up quite yet. Setting down her tack she slipped into Sassi’s stall the golden mare perked her ears to the girl and waited patiently. On went the leather halter and off came the stable blanket, it was replaced with a red cooler and Emma added a lead to the mare’s halter before leading her into the aisle way. She turned her to face the stall door that she shut, making sure there was lots of room between her and the gelding she “parked” the mare quite literally. Lead shank fell to the ground, the chain wasn’t around the mare’s nose and the horse was officially ground tied. She wouldn’t move for pretty much anything in the world now, having a horse that didn’t tie could be annoying but when they parked as well as Sass did it wasn’t a huge deal. As she grabbed a stool and got to work yanking a few chunks of hair out she looked over to the other girl, her tone friendly and she hoped she could be heard over the music.

"Hey, nice looking gelding you have there,
certainly looks built to do his job.
Oh, I’m Emma by the way."

The horse in crossties was built to work a cow, small in height and compact he could probably turn and spin on a dime she bet he was real handy when it came to working cattle. He had a nice shoulder, probably a pretty nice little mover too, smooth and quick to cover ground. Huh, she looked him over again trying to take a guess at his breeding mentally. She wasn’t willing to throw names out, the girl was much older than herself. She didn’t want to insult anyone or make a foolish mistake and make herself look like some snotty 16 year old know it all. She didn’t know “working” horse breeding as well as she did main ring show stuff, she wasn’t going to let that be known.

She was almost done with the saddle, getting the last of what she hadnt covered yet, her eyes flicker up hearing a stall door open, she looks back down at her saddle and continues finishing. Nic's attention went straight to the mare and he got prancy even though he was a gelding he seemed to get excited easily by mares. Sadie looks up at the gelding and tosses a pebble at his shoulder to get his attention off the mare, she then looks back down at her saddle, which was nearly perfect at this point, it was worn and used but it still had this nice appearance to it. Sadie instantly glanced over to the girl as she spoke putting a small smile on to look friendly which always seemed to be one her her flaws, people thought she wasnt friendly most the time because he kinda keeps to her self.

"Thank you his name is 'Heza Pleasin Nic" or just Nic, and he does do a damn good job, won me more prizes than I know what to do with including this saddle, figured I'd bring him here and give people lessons on him, parents are sending me two new horses they bred, probably gonna sell one though....my name is Sadie"

She almost blurted out the last part not realizing she kinda rambled on, almost feeling embarrassed about it, her eyes drift to the palomino mare, looks her features up and down, she definitely wasnt a cutter but probably a really nice pleasure mare. And thats the area Sadie didnt know a whole lot in, english riding and pleasure riding, actually the only thing she had a handle on was cutting,reining and reined cow work with a little bit of barrel racing. It was kinda nice to see another western rider around even if it wasnt her type of western riding. Not that she had a big problem with english riders but alot seemed stuck up when she went to watch a english show and she ended up leaving before the show was over just because she hadnt wanted to deal with the people. She knew they werent all like that though, but she hadnt really met to many of them here yet.


Nice grunts loudly, ears forward and neck arched as he stared at the golden mare, he hadnt even realized she was taller than him, his focus was to make himself look studly, though even if he want tied he wouldnt move towards her. He bobs his head a few times flicking his long tail trying to grab the mares attention, shaking his head he clacks his teeth together twice before jerking to a stop as he gets hit in the shoulder with another pebble, he huffs in an almost annoyed manner and relaxes, his eyes still stuck on the mare though.

EMMA.

Emma continued to pull away at her mare’s mane. The palomino horse didn’t seem to take too much notice in the gelding. She was used to lots going on around her, distractions were something she knew better than to give into. Plus with Emma up there pulling her hair out the mare focused on the stall front before her to keep from fidgeting, she was used to it but it still didn’t mean she loved it. Emma looked over to the other girl, her long ponytail fell over her shoulder as she did so. Smiling still she took a glare at the saddle, it was worn but evidently nice. Then her eyes went back to Sassi’s mane, she should probably watch what it was she was doing. Smile clung to her features as she did so, the hair continued to come out easily, she was pretty close to being done that was something the mare would be happy to hear. Taking the comb she ran it through the mare’s short mane and straightened things out, there were still a few more places that needed to be fixed up before she could call it complete. She continued to pull away as she looked to the still frisky gelding. She smirked, so she wasn’t the only one who thought Sass was a pretty girl. The palomino mare turned her head to eye the talking gelding though snorted and straightened her neck once more for Emma. She listened to the girl speak, taking in every word of it she was in heaven. She didn’t even notice the fact that the girl might have rambled a bit, the fact that she had two horses coming interested Emma lots, and lessons on the chestnut gelding. Huh, she was certainly going to inquire more, and right now too.

“Nice to meet you Sadie, Nic sounds like quite the horse. Sassi should be honoured he wants to pay her attention, but she’s a little stuck up from her own wins. Hmm, lessons on him. Really? That’s a little ironic actually; I just emailed my coach to start looking for a cutting and “cowy” horse. I’d love to take some lessons while waiting for her to find me something.”

Emma finished pulling the mare’s last few long pieces of mane, stepping off the stool she admired her handy work before slipping the metal comb into the tack box in front of Sassi’s stall. She wondered what the girl had to say about lessons, she was offering them to the public or made it seem so and as long as Emma was willing to pay there shouldn’t be much holding them back from happening, she hoped Sadie felt the same way. Oh well, if the lady wasn’t willing to give her lessons she could find someone else. Hell she could even start to practise on Sass if she wanted, that was assuming the horse was up to it. There was nothing holding the mare back, she was balanced and athletic and could start the basics she wouldn’t be as good as the still talking gelding in the cross ties but she could handle some of it. Emma headed to her polo wraps, the zebra print pair were her favourite, freshly washed and soft she grabbed them and returned her attention to the golden mare. She starting wrapping her left leg, tight and supportive correctly pushing the tendon careful not to wreck the mare’s precious legs. She swapped legs and looked up to the chatty gelding chuckling lightly, he knew he was something and his character shone thorough. Sass looked to him again as he chattered his teeth, her ears were perked and nostrils flared he had interested her though as she smelt him once more she settled for just looking at him.

Nic was not amused with the fact he was being ignored it made him want the attention even more than he had originally, letting out another loud grunt he lifts his front leg up as if to paw but wavers it in the air, his head tilted to the side and his ears pointing to his sides. In his mind he wasnt a scruffy gelding but more of a beautiful stallion, though the evidence was against him. He puts his leg down bobbing his head again, he 'knew' she wanted him, grunting the gelding tosses his head in the air lifting his upper lip and moving it around in the air. Sadie glares up at the gelding without actually moving her head up, her hands reaching for a brush in her grooming box to throw at him, the gelding notices though and stops the act and stares at Sadie with his ears forward and his kind eyes as big as he could make them. Sadie drops the brush back in the box shaking her head as she listens to the girl talk, a smile still on her face as she nodds lightly.

"well your more than welcome to get some lessons on Nic, he's a good been there done that kinda horse and would be good for someone to learn on, if you want you can get on him today in the indoor arena, I have a remote flag cow in my truck I can set up and you can see if you two get along enough for lessons. Im actually selling a five year old stallion a couple stalls down, he and another were given to me from my dad, he bred them on our ranch and gave them to me to do with what I please, I wanna keep the younger stud to work with more. The five year old though, he's already won some shows and his runs are concistant he has a way of making the cows work for him in his favor....if that makes sense, he's four stalls down on your left side."

Sadies eyes kinda wander down to the stall in which the stud was in, and the stall next to him was her younger stud that she had a lot of hopes for, both were good stallions but in order for the girl to be able to handle the five year old it would be smart to get lessons on Nic first, Nic wouldn't try and pull anything or get away with anything like the younger stud would right now. Both had great bloodlines and came from great stallions, but the mares they come from are just as important and that's what most people fail to remember when breeding, Sadie and her family own top of the line mares to breed to top of the line stallions, so their foals always came out cowin it up from the beginning.

"He's got a slide stop that could put hollywood dun it to shame"

She adds with a bit of a grin, who knows if it could actually put such a great stallion to shame but it was a huge stop and it came pretty naturally to the stallion.
