i'm trying so hard not to get caught up now- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Alanie browsed through clothes, humming under her breath to the Taylor Swift that was playing on her ipod. A small smile played on her pale lips as she pushed shirts and skirts around aimlessly, just enjoying a day out of her house and her room. It’d been a while since she was coaxed from her comfort zone. Her mother had dropped her off, picking up her father to go out to dinner with him. Her orders were to have a good time, buy somethings and stop stressing for once. She figured the second one she could do and so far she was getting the first one down too but her mother shoulder know her better than to ask for the third. Stressing was what Alanie Ellis knew how to do best.
Pulling out a thin, layered skirt with flowers all over it Alanie pursed her lips for a moment. Should she get it? She glanced briefly at her purse that hung over her right shoulder, knowing her mom would have given her enough money to buy the whole store if she wanted that. She shrugged, bringing the skirt with her as she moved on to another rack. Might as well. He mom wouldn’t be pleased unless she had at least two bags with her when she was picked up.
“Cos you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter and my daddy said stay away from Juliet, but you were everything to me. I was begging you please don’t go…” Alanie sang softly under her breath, smiling a bit more at her voice. She loved her voice and she knew it was exceptional, the one thing that she was confident in.
She held the skirt back up, putting a tie-dye shirt back on the rack. One item so far, tons more to go. She shook her head, swerving around clothes racks and people to the counter to pay.
After wards she made for the door, swinging her bag with her purchase in it around as she beelined for the coffee shop in the mall. She waited in line patiently, watching people pass by without much thought. She caught sight of a cute boy and her gaze lingered for a moment before he looked over, smiling at her. Alanie’s eyes widened slightly, ducking her head and letting her long red hair hide her burning face. Grinding her teeth at herself, she moved up in the line and ordered a carmel latte.
She sat at a near-by table, clutching the receipt and order number in her hand. Finally after a small wait, her number was called and she near ran up to snatch the drink from the young woman that held it out, ignoring the dirty look she got. Saying thank you hastily, she moved to a table in the very back corner and sat down with a sigh.
Dropping her purse and bag on the table, she wrapped both hands around her latte, taking a sip and closing her eyes. She needed this.

in your brain like a maze you can never escape the rain every damn day is the same damn shade of gray Luke couldn't help but notice the girl looked slightly disgusted at his request, but she would get over it, right? She looked also as if she was refusing the make eye contact. Maybe he got in over his head with this one, but once he got a bite he didn't give up. He was very persistent, although mostly once he got a girl he dumped her pretty quick, or just cheated on her. With his rockstar type lifesyle, he could not stay tied down to just one girl. The girl had finaly stuttered out her answer, and Luke slid out the chair opposite her, and slid into the seat. He finaly caught her gaze for a moment, before she looked away. He couldn't tell if she was absolutly repulsed by him, or was she just shy. Do I smell or something? He wanted to ask, but didn't. He didn't even know her name yet, so he couldn't be too bad. "Then I hope you won't mind if I join you? He smiled, his bright toothy grin, and searched for her gaze again, now hidden behind a wave of red.
He could tell he was making the girl uncomfortable. If things didn't start picking up, he would have to find somebody a little bit more- responsive? He felt awkward when people didn't hit it off with him right off the bat- he was not used to girls not seeming to want to be around him. Her voice was quiet, very quiet, when she said it was nice to meet him. He didn't think she meant it, not at all. She seemed like she was about to either start crying or run away screaming rape. He didn't have any bad intentions, he was just looking for a friend, maybe a small fling, but she didn't need to know that second part.
He had to make conversation, but he didn't even know the girls name! That was until a few moments later when she finaly introduced herself as Alanie. Well, Alanie, He said, a warm smile apon his face. It's my pleasure to meet you as well. He looked around noticing she was alone. Not many people came to the mall alone, unless they where new, like he was. And well, he was just scouting for possible fling options. He ran his fingers through his messy dark hair and searched again for her avoiding gaze. He tried to think- he was making no head way here. He was sure there was other hot girls here. But he had to try, he was not a quitter.
So, Alanie, what brings you to the mall on this wonderful day? He leaned on the table, placing his chin upon his hands. He had to get her gaze, get her talking or something. Maybe he could take her to dinner or something, he knew girls liked that. Dinner & a movie and they where in your pocket for life. He kept his hazel eyes where hers would be if she looked up, and waited.

i'm trying so hard not to get caught up now- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Drinking her latte one small sip at a time, Alanie felt herself relaxing. The hot drink warmed her hands and she pressed one against her chilly cheek with a sigh. Resting her elbow on the table she left her cheek in her hand as she stirred her latte with a small straw.
She gazed at the people walking to and from the shop with barely curious eyes. Taking another sip she leaned back in her seat and dragged her purse into her lap. She set her drink on the table and fished through her large purse, getting frustrated when she couldn’t find what she was looking for. She growled under her breath when suddenly she found it. Taking her phone out, she looked but saw no new messages. Frowning slightly in bewilderment, she tossed her phone back in. It was unusual for her parents not to call, or at least text her every five minutes to see how she was. Not that she enjoyed it, but they’d always throw a fit if she didn’t answer.
She looked up just in time to see a young boy her age walking over with a drink in his hand. Alanie’s brow raised slightly, her first reaction being to look behind her because he couldn’t possibly be coming over to her, right? But he was, apparently.
She stared at him stupidly for a moment, biting her lip to stop her gawking when he spoke. Shaking her head slightly, she tried to bring up a smile but it probably looked more like a grimace. “I… no, no… go ahead. No one’s sitting there, I mean.” Alanie looked at him for a moment. Yes, he was her age and handsome. She felt like blushing at the thought but somehow she stopped the reaction, ducking her head and letting her long, red hair fall in front of her face.
Wanting to disappear, she couldn’t even bring herself to look up at him anymore. She felt like a child. Taking a quick sip of her latte, she swallowed the drink and her fear and looked up finally. Managing a sheepish, almost apologetic smile she laughed nervously, “nice to meet you, Luke.” Quietly, softly, her voice barely more than a whisper. She was afraid to speak louder, less her words shake with her irrational fear.
She almost took another sip of her latte for lack of anything better to do, and to calm her nerves when she remembered she didn’t tell him her name. Blinking, her set her drink back down and this time she did blush. “I’m Alanie,” she said quickly to make up for her mistake. God, she was stupid.

i'm trying so hard not to get caught up now- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Alanie had no experience with guys, and she met that in every way possible. Maybe it was her looks or the air about her that just seemed to say ‘leave me alone’, but without fail she was over-looked and ignored. And to tell you the truth, it bothered her little. She always wanted to fit in a bit more than she did but she was happy with her social status. She never tried to be anything that she wasn’t and if that meant sitting alone and going home to her books and laptop to spend a lonely night in her room, so be it.
So Alanie watched him, nerves making the butterflies in her stomach go wild, as he say down across from her. Guys just didn’t do that. Pay attention to her, that is. She could hardly form anymore words, her lips seemingly glued together and look on her face like a deer in the headlights, most likely.
She took a deep breath, the silence following her giving her name unsettling yet reassuring her all in the same. Closing her gray eyes for just a moment, she willed herself to get it together and stop acting like a fool. She opened her eyes and settled back in her seat, forcing herself to relax and appear nonchalant even though it was hard. She smiled back at him softly, tentatively when he returned her greeting and she flexed her fingers that still wrapped around her latte. She hadn’t realized what a tight grip she had on the cup until she loosened it and slid her hands from the table and into her lap.
She looked into her lap, at a loss for words as another silence stretched on while she searched her brain for something to say. See? She was horrible at this. She turned sullen, wishing to be some place else and spare the unlucky boy her gruesome company. He must be wishing he had chosen someone else to talk with.
Yet he was still here and talking to her. Alanie shifted as he spoke again and she looked up and met his eyes and forced herself to keep looking. Swallowing, she smiled more convincingly and opened her mouth. “Oh, I… just wanted to get out of the house for a bit, you know,” she replied softly. She cleared her throat and took a sip of her latte to gather her thoughts. “Honestly, though my parents don’t think I’m social enough, so they thought if they threw me into a mall crowded with ego inflated idiots I’d some how come home with a posse of friends,” she smiled ruefully, a bit surprised she spoke as much as she did.
She brushed her hair behind her ear and finished her latte, sliding it to the end of the table. “What about you?” She asked curiously, ignoring everything else and looking at him steadily for once.
