It really was the perfect day. The sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze that played softly with Leighton's hair as she walked into the barn. This place was huge...It was unlike any place she'd ever been. Her own ranch back home was nothing compared to the massive barn that she now stood in. Stalls lined the aisles and she could see a tack room and some washracks in the distance. Ned and Hurrah were going to love it here. Just as the thought crossed her mind, she heard a long whinny from behind her. She let out a soft laugh and turned around, amused how she could forget about her two horses in the trailer. She could see their beautiful heads poking out of the trailer and she smiled softly to herself.
Leighton opened the trailer door and skillfully unloaded both of her animals. The Quarter Horse was taken in first, because she knew that good ole Ned would set an example for Hurrah to follow. The faithful black gelding followed her into the barn without hesitation. She didn't even need a halter or lead rope for the good boy. She quickly secured him in a giant stall and went back for the Hanoverian. Hurrah stamped his foot impatiently at his owner, ready to move from the spot he was standing in. Leighton sighed and untied the 17.2 hh horse. Hurrah took off towards the barn, wanting to know where his pal went. Leighton yanked him back and muttered under her breath a few choice words. Hurrah looked back anxiously, and Leighton couldn't help but giggle. This animal was definitely going to be a handful.
The pair made their way into the giant barn and Leighton got the big boy settled in his stall. Ned was already beginning to doze off on the bedding that Leighton had put in there for him. She patted his nose softly and refocused her attention on Hurrah. The 3 year old was dancing around in his stall, full of energy. She shook her head and dreaded the thought of a battle with him today. She was exhausted from the 4 hour drive, and he should be, too. A shrill whinny escaped his lips and pierced the silent barn. Leighton sighed and got him out. She began grooming the giant, intending on hopping on bareback and taking him over a few jumps just to lose some of his energy. If only she knew where the arenas were around here. She needed a personal little guide to get her aquainted with the area. Her icy blue eyes scanned the aisles, but nobody was to be found. She thought it odd that nobody was here on such a nice day.

Jake slammed the door of his beat up chevy. God why couldn't he be rich like some of the other snobs that bored their horses here. Stomping down the aisle, trying to get some feeling back in his toes. It was a bitter day out though if not for the Cold it would have been perfect. The sun was out but doing very little to defrost his bones. J.R. (as he was called back home in Montana, walked down to where he could see angels head sticking out of her stall. Stepping close to his horse, he patted her and gave her a serious look. "when are you going to drop that foal for me? Your due date was 2 days ago and I am thinking about calling that vet if you don't drop it with in the next couple of days." the little mare gave a sigh as if to say. Hey! You think I want to carry this thing around anymore its getting heavy!. Chuckling he stepped away from his mare and absent mindedly was thinking of names for angels foal. JR was thinking about naming the foal slightly scandalous if it was a filly though if it was a colt he would probably name it King of spades. Not that it really mattered.
Jake was broken out of his own little world when he heard hooves on the aisle floor. Head snapping up he saw a girl around the age of his own children, Andrew and Sophia, who happened to be seventeen. Though the girl looked a small bit older than the twins. God he was old the kids were already 17 that was ridiculous. A small smile appeared on his very handsome face which time had seemed not to touch or alter. He was attractive what could he say. Walking over to the young girl who was in the process of bringingn her horses. "anything I can help you with?" he asked turning to the girl. "the names Mr. Prince but you can just call me jake." he smiled a helpful smile and waited for her to respond.

Leighton hummed softly to herself as she curry combed Hurrah's massive back. They horse was filthy. She knew that as soon as she let him in his stall he had rolled for a solid five minutes to get aquainted with his new home. The Hanoverian definitely was quite the handful, but she loved him just the same. She had been utterly suprised when her mother had brought home the giant stallion for her 17th birthday present. She instantly fell in love with the hunter jumper and her new passion was found. She glanced back at Ned and smiled. He would forever be her baby. He was only a year older than Hurrah, but the gelding acted like an old man. He was so calm and reliable. It was a nice change for Leighton from her little firecracker she was about to ride.
She had just finished cleaning out Hurrah's hooves when she heard a voice from behind her. She whipped around and clumsily tripped over the tackbox that was directly behind her. She caught herself at the last second by grabbing onto Hurrah's neck. The horse eyed her as she righted herself and she smiled to the man, a little embarrassed by her clumsiness. "Um. Howdy....uhh, yeah, I'm Leighton. Leighton Dodge." She smiled sweetly and turned back to her horse. "You can just tell I'm new around here can't ya? I feel like a lost puppy dog. I don't even know where the arenas are." She laughed at her stupidity and focused back on Hurrah. The giant horse snorted at the man. "This is The Final Hurrah. I just call him Hurrah. And that," she nodded towards the black Quarter Horse,"Is Necessary Ned. Or just Ned." Leighton turned to face the newcomer and noticed that he looked a little bit old. Not disgustingly old, just not close to her in age. She had to admit though, he was rather handsome for having a few years on him.
