my teeth and ambitions are bared! It seemed that the day was turning out to be a record breaking day, but there was a first time for everything, wasn’t there? To start off, the day was a record setting cold day for the time of year, a bone chilling 42 degrees (practically unheard of so soon after summer), and secondly he had asked one of the local trainers at Crossfire Farms for a lesson, but he was just seeing for himself what the buzz about this woman was all about. A trainer himself (but reluctant to coach), he was willing to secretly take notes from anyone he could; he had already studied Carlee Peters’ style of training while he rode in the ring as she worked her horses one day. All he had left was Grace Moselle.
The easiest way to learn from her was a lesson, as she was too pregnant to ride (or not allowed to ride, he wasn’t aware of the situation going on so assumed she was simply too big).
It was almost too early for him to be dealing with her, but he was determined to ride her. Dodging flying feet and bared teeth, he cinched up the girth on Haunted Destiny, simply snarling at the bay mare as she attempted to take his head off. Smacking her on the shoulder he hissed, Quit, you wretched cow or we’re riding outdoors regardless of how fucking cold or windy it is. The mare only gave him a stony glare, as if daring him to take her out into the cold where he knew she’d be even worse. Without warning, she struck out again, just barely catching the side of his thigh, he yelped in pain and kicked her in the stomach, she only took a small step sideways and snorted, hardly phased by her owner’s counterattack.
Often times he felt like a soldier fighting an unwinnable war with Destiny.
Glancing outside at the gray, cold day he ran quickly to his car to grab a second jacket before zipping that on. Aubrey knew better than to ride any of the Haunted babies without a helmet, so he clipped his GPA on and found his riding gloves. Taking her bridle from the tack room, he came back out and noticed that she was staring at him, ears pinned with the expression that said ‘bring it, skinny.’ Aubrey grinned at her, though there were many times where he publically voiced his desires to cut her head off, he liked the challenge she and her brother proposed, it made him feel accomplished when he got a decent amount of work done on them.
Trusty crop in hand, he put her bridle on and avoided teeth once more as he led her out to the outdoor arena.
The jumps looked a little low, and while he could be nice and raise them to a more acceptable height for the pregnant trainer, he decided she’d be ok lifting things herself and got on and began to warm up. As usual, Destiny flew off sideways at every single contact of his leg and gripped the bit in her mouth before inverting and throwing her weight around corners, unwilling to hold herself up. After thirty minutes of battle, he managed to get her ‘looking’ nice (though mechanically, it was all fake). Looking up he noticed a rather pregnant woman waddling towards him, he didn’t have a watch so he didn’t know if he had the rights to complain that she was late. Bringing Destiny to a halt in the middle of the arena he put on a fake smile that looked as real as any welcoming smile could be and said, And you must be Grace Moselle, I’m excited for this lesson.
He could tell her to stay away from Destiny, that she’d bite. But she wouldn’t learn without a little trial and error, would she?

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - She swore she was going to go crazy.
Being at the barn, surrounded by horses and being not able to ride for a good three months made her want to bash her head against the wall until she knocked herself out. Never in her life, no matter how crippled she had became she had never taken more than a week off. Let alone three months, this was going to be excruciating for her. So far she had been doing well, a whole week and a half- and it was killing her inside day by day. Especially when she watched some of her students bomb around on their horses making mistakes that she knew only she was going to be able to fix.
The longer those errors built up, the longer it was going to take for her to fix them when she could ride. Unless magically she could teach her students to ride exactly like she did, which wasn't even humanely possible for her to even imagine. Sighing in frustration as she leaned against the wall in cross-ties as the tiny blond girl pulled tack off of her monstrous grey grand prix prospect. The girl was quiet and sullen, still wounded from the exchange of words from the lesson. Stepping forward and patting the grey horse, she watched the shorter girl. Once she realized that she was the one causing the issues that the horse was having, it would be a lot easier to address. But she chose to believe that it was the horses fault, not hers. Shaking her head and sighing, Grace waddled out to the outdoor once more, knowing she had another lesson lined up. She had told herself that being pregnant wasn't going to slow her schedule down, but by how shitty she had been feeling lately it wasn't going exactly as planned.
She was curious for this next lesson when she realized she was going to be coaching Aubrey, who she had seen ride a handful of time in the jumpers a handful of times when she had been on the same circuit (except she had been showing in the USEF finals, unlike him who had been in the NAYRC). Running her fingers through her hair, she was curious, but not all that excited. The last time she had taught an arrogant male had been Blaise, which had resulted in a lesson from hell. But yet, somehow she had went from hating him after that lesson, to falling head over heels in love with him and getting herself in a relationship. And she wasn't all that sure how that was worked out, but she couldn't complain. Running a hand over the bump on her stomach, she continued to make her way out. Squeezing through the fence boards as she made her way in the arena, watching the bay and the younger male pull up a halt. She stood away from the mare, and looked up at him as he spoke. Smiling back up at him, she nodded. “Indeed. And you're Aubrey King if I'm not mistaken? I'm glad that you're excited,”
she glanced back down at the mare. “And the mare's called?”[/blockquote][/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - RESERVED FOR--ashie and blaise <33 WORD COUNT-- 527 // complete NOTES-- oh pain meds wearing off LOLOL OH WELLLL CREDITS -- images/text banners etc all copyright to their respectful owners. my teeth and ambitions are bared! Most of the time when he was meeting new, potentially powerful or important people, Aubrey kept his arrogance in check, and for now he was going to be as respectful to Grace as he could, he knew that he couldn’t afford any enemies in the horse world, not if he was so new, there’d be time for bridge burning later when his name was well established and he had an ass hole/douche bag reputation to hold up. For now he’d keep his rude comments and desire to tell whoever he was around that they sucked at riding to himself; all malicious words would remain within the confines of his rotten mind.
There were too many things on the line for him to be ‘Aubrey’.
It shocked a lot of people how quickly he could switch from one personality to the other, and if he were a little more traumatized and a little crazier, he’d probably be able to be diagnosed with a bi-polar disorder, but until then he was just a young man with big dreams and an even bigger mouth with the ability to lock that mouth when needed. Outside of the barn, for example, he was a completely different person, no one was spared from his judging eye, no one was exempted from his scrutinizing comments. In the ‘real’ world, everyone and everything was game, there were no rules and no reason for him to watch his back yet.
As Grace neared, Aubrey kept his false grin, playing the part of well mannered school-boy from England.
There was no doubt that he could easily fit into the British stereotype, he could hold open doors for people, speak and act politely, chew with his mouth closed, set a dinner table for a feast properly with the forks in all the right places and the correct spoons where they should be and fancy folded napkins. It was just that he chose not to be viewed as a respectful young man, he didn’t want to fit into the society that most Americans had built for British people like him, oh no. That just wouldn’t do.
He had to make a name for himself, not allow the stereotypes of a world thousands of miles away from where he grew up define who he was and how he acted and reacted.
When she properly introduced herself, she inquired about his mare. Raising an eyebrow he looked down at the bay beast’s neck and chuckled and spoke in his light accent, Haunted Destiny, full sister to another horse I own called Haunted House. She’s the younger of the two but only by a year, but most certainly just like her brother as far as personality and will…or lack thereof, to work. I’ve had her since she was two and her brother when he was three. Bought them at the same time, I’ll get back to you on whether or not that was a good idea. Suddenly, Destiny realized she was not alone, her dark beady eyes focused in on grace, ears forward for a second before she pinned them, bared her teeth and sprung forward.
Not pleased with the action, Aubrey sat back in his saddle and pulled her head to his knee while kicking her into a circle.
Bringing her to a halt again, now a good few hundred feet away from the pregnant woman he shook his head and said, Oh, she bites anything within springing distance. He could tell the lesson was just going to go swimmingly and couldn’t wait to get the bitch flying over some jumps, judging by her attitude he could tell she’d be very on and off between the jumps but mostly a star over them…that is until he did something she didn’t like and decided it was time for him to quit.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - She smiled slightly at his introduction to the mare. She was pretty enough, not too big- a nice dark bay. At least when he had bought the siblings to his horses, they were exactly alike with no surprises there. She on the other hand had not been as lucky, it turns out the dead quiet gelding had been an odd one for his kind. And her mare, unfortunately had not been dead quiet, unless heavily drugged (heavy enough for her to jump around a baby green course and win). Somehow, she never had been caught, and Grace hadn't caught on to it. She had learned from her mistakes, needless to say.
Her train of thought was interrupted when suddenly flying sand and baring teeth. Stepping back, she wasn't all that reassured when Aubrey managed to rip the mares head around to his knee and kick her in a circle. Raising an eyebrow at his comment about her biting anything in springing distance. “I noticed,” she said simply, shrugging. “I just hope for your sake that you can steer and keep her out of springing distance for me.” Out of all things she needed right now, getting killed by someone's mare was most definitely not on her list of things, and she couldn't see Blaise taking that all too well. Especially since she was carrying his baby, and if anything happened to that baby she pitied those who caused it any sort of pain or trauma.
Running her fingers through her hair, she stepped back another step and looked over at the jumps that were set in the ring. Nothing huge, a decent three foot, maybe some back rails of oxers set at three foot six. It was the only height she could handle watching some of her kids school without wanting to have a heart attack. A certain petite blond was on the top of that list, with her giant horses that just hauled her around. Unable to get her leg around them, she was often jumped loose from the tack and was almost thrown off half the time.
It was enough to give her ulcers.
She hoped that Aubrey would stay on, and she didn't have many doubts that he'd come off. Looking back up at him, she bit her lower lip in thought, frowning slightly. “Is she warmed up enough to start jumping? I don't know if you want to do more flat work to warm her up more or what, so it's completely up to you if you want to start jumping her right now. You know her better than I do evidently.”
Keeping her back turned to the fence, she didn't notice a certain tiny blond climb on to the fence. Sitting there quite contently with two cups of coffee in hand, sipping at one, she watched her coach and the unknown rider wordlessly. After this lesson she would bribe herself back in to Grace's good books with coffee, a flawless plan in her mind (except the fact that she didn't know pregnant people weren't supposed to drink coffee).

my teeth and ambitions are bared! Grace had not seem too terribly impressed at his mare’s behavior, but he was not going to bother to apologize for Grace standing within biting distance of the bitch. If she knew mares better, he had assumed she’d know that not all mares were sweet and kind, and that most of them were wretched cows that wanted nothing more than to suck their riders dry of any blood then eat their brains and wear their skin as a parka. Or, at least, that’s what his mare wanted to do to him on perhaps a daily basis. Sometimes he wondered if that was healthy.
Most of the time he ignored it and figured it was just a part of life.
Growing up he had never really liked mares, but he had acquired one or two more by accident and figured they weren’t so bad…until he came across Destiny. She was just a bad seed, but he wasn’t about to let her go simply because of her hideous attitude. He knew she was a great jumper when she was thinking about it and had faith that she’d one day grow out of her bitchy attitude and sober up and jump like the superstar he knew she could. It would just be all about timing.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a flash of neon and turned his head.
His eyes landed on a blond headed girl sitting on the fence clutching a cup of coffee wearing neon boot socks and flats. He wrinkled his nose but said nothing, as Grace took his attention away and asked him if he was ready to jump. Shrugging he looked down at Destiny’s neck and said, Ready to jump…well, I can’t tell you that until after she’s gone over one, but I’m ready to jump. How about….I go jump that x over there as a warm up? Good. He didn’t wait for her to reply, he simply turned Destiny and picked up a canter. Beneath him, the bay bitch moved smoothly, there was little hitch in her step that warned of any sign of dirty tricks.
Still, he wouldn’t fully know until he felt her after the first jump.
In his head he silently counted out the strides and let out a deep breath, one stride out, she took a half step, and he was ready to beat her over the jump, but it seemed that she had already decided to go over it, her knees tucked up neatly, but she left one back leg slightly down and she caught a rail on the decent. Landing, he looked back and shook his head, but she simply charged on, her mouth heavy in his hands, but not out of control. Coming down to a walk he gently moved her head from side to side and said, Yeah, as ready as she’ll ever be to jump, what’s next?

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - She was glad that Aubrey agreed not to waste any time in this lesson, and was on it. Watching as he cantered up to the cross rail, she couldn't really find anything to pick apart at such small jumps. She knew that someone who rides and shows at his calibre had to ride well, making everything look easy as they went around (similar to the equitation ring, where she had lived for so long). And she knew he rode well by how easy he made the mare look, and she could tell from here that there was no way in hell she was an angel to ride. As they approached the cross rail, she sighed as the mare knocked a rail down. Jumping tight and clean up front, but apparently the back end didn't share the same tidiness. Looking over her shoulder at the bright lime green that Aubrey had seen, she shook her head and made eye contact with the girl.
“Go put that rail back up for me,” she called out, not wanting to move and lift it back up. That was a long ways for her to walk, usually she would, but the whole being pregnant thing was putting a whole damper on her usual determination to be active. Danielle didn't argue, leaving both cups of coffee on a fence post and jogging across the ring (being careful to stay far out of the way) and set the swedish oxer back up.
Looking over at Aubrey who walked her around, keeping his distance from her. Which she appreciated, she didn't really want to be run over. The course that was set today was more hunter obstacles, solid and looking like natural things that would be set under the fence. “I'm not going to bore you with drilling the same fence over and over, let's just start in a course, since I know you're more than capable to go around a three foot course without trouble. Let's canter over the fence she knocked down, go across the diagonal line in four, to the outside line in five then across the other diagonal oxer, and come up the other outside line which is a one stride to a two stride. Sound like a plan?”
She didn't suspect he'd have any troubles with the height of the fences, from the corner of her eye she watched as Danielle climbed back on the fence and continued to drink her coffee. The girl wasn't going to go anywhere as long as she had something to do with it, not until she was done using her as a jump setter, because she didn't want to have to do it.

my teeth and ambitions are bared! While Aubrey could ride almost any horse flawlessly enough to take him to a well-earned victory, he was not the type of rider that could just hop up on any old horse and automatically learn how they worked. Sure, he could function on a brand new mount, just not enough to be flawless or perfect. He liked to really get to know a horse, he liked to know how they’d react to anything and everything, he wanted to know how they’d behave if he did something they didn’t like, he wasn’t too fond of unrequited surprises. He liked the security of knowing the horse. Sometimes if he knew how the horse behaved when being handled on the ground he could generally get a pretty good idea of how it’d handle under saddle, but he could never be too sure until he actually rode them and did not count on his assumption until the ride.
Whether or not that’d be his only downfall, he wasn’t sure.
Grace merely sighed and shook her head as his mare brought down the rail. Keeping his elbows bent and putting her into a low frame through the connection he looked around at the jumps, most of them didn’t even look like they topped 3’6, he frowned. This mare was used to jumping a whole foot above that, but he wasn’t going to voice his bitchy complaint just yet, the whore could use a little schooling at the smaller jumps. Besides, it wasn’t like she had been jumping too terribly well over the higher jumps, lately it seemed she was prone to sticking her front feet down, which would be a dangerous thing in the bigger classes, he needed to scare her, but he wasn’t sure how well that’d go over.
If he made her knock her shins really hard, he was worried she’d do the opposite and not jump at all.
The thing that drove him crazy about her was that she was one of the most beautiful jumpers he had seen (he’d seen her free jump, and she was pretty spectacular), but when she didn’t want to jump, there was simply nothing that could be done to make her function as an athlete. He nodded as Grace suggested he should go ahead and start on the course. Shrugging he picked up a canter again and held a two-point with his thigh, keeping his legs off of her and hands light. They rounded a corner and he pointed her at one of the lines, her ears perked up as did her step, for once he figured she was going to jump like she knew.
And much to his surprise, she did.
Springing over the verticals like they were barely there, when they landed the last jump he pat her happily then steered towards the next one, and once again his eye was set on the neon socks, but he shook his head slightly and focused, there was suddenly something different in her step, and he knew it was coming. The first oxer was taken clean, her knees tucked up and hocks almost shoved up her butt. As they landed, she took one stride then stuck her head in the air as if she was going to stop, but Aubrey kicked her in hopes of keeping her going. Instead of jumping she plummeted down to a slow western jog and practically hopped into the next jump, tripping over her own legs, her nose touched the ground, as did her knees. Determined not to fall off Aubrey sat back and hit her with the whip to get up, she sprung up and he didn’t even give her a chance to catch her breath before kicking and hitting her at the same time.
Beneath the saddle, he felt her back muscles bunch up and assumed she’d spring sideways into the girl.
Hissing, in the split second he snarled at the blond girl, Move! He would not put it past the mare to throw him off then attack anyone within reach, so he wasn’t about to be responsible for that. With one last tap on the shoulder she jumped over the last jump like nothing had happened then landed and took a few bucking bronc attacks before slamming the breaks and throwing her head in the air. Barking at her, her ears pinned back and she took a step forward, but didn’t seem to want to move.
Most people would assume she was hurt, Aubrey knew she was just fine, just a bitch.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - Grace didn't really know what to think of the pair. She went from jumping like shit, to jumping a ten over everything and jumping like shit again, not a consistent attitude a world class athlete. Perhaps it was something she would outgrow when she was older, because going in to the grand prix ring there was no chance to not be able to trust that your mount wasn't going to try their heart out at every fence. She now understood that after having it screamed at her in an argument, although she had no intentions on Tiny ever becoming a grand prix horse, but a regular hunter- and still, in that ring you needed the trust with all the pressure on them. She had known it for so long, but simply put it off making excuses that Tiny would get better with age. A year later and with her only getting worse (even with the best of the best riding her) that she was a lost cause. Yet Grace couldn't ever admit that defeat, so she just shut up about the topic of the mare and was pleased to see that Blaise didn't bring it up. She had a feeling that in his mind, Tiny was nothing.
Frowning as the mare pretty much crashed, she waited for him to come off or both of them to go down. She didn't really know what to even say or do as he beat her forward, the mare jumping like nothing had happened. Her heart had stopped in her chest, and she hadn't really realized that she had been holding her breath as the mare bucked and cantered away looking like she wasn't hurt.
Danielle blinked at the horse as the two crashed through the jump, waiting for them to come down completely. She wasn't going to lie when she was quite impressed at the fact he had gotten her back up and going to jump through the one stride acting like they hadn't done a single thing wrong. Snapping her head up as he snarled at her, telling her to move. Not wanting to even take changes at the possibility of getting kicked in the head or something along those lines, she decided to jump down from the fence and lean on it from the other side. This way, she could actually move if the mare decided to try and kill her. She was glad that she had horses that would never try and pull that kind of shit, shaking her head a the mare as she bronced and slammed on the breaks.
It reminded her of a horse show earlier in the season, except unlike Grace, Aubrey did not have his mare bucking down the whole long side and was staying on.
“Um... I don't even know what I can say about that,”
Grace finally said, narrowing her eyes at the mare as she stood there with her ears pinned back. “Is she a rearer?” She called out, watching as she stuck her head up higher. Dealing with the mare rearing over backwards really wasn't something she wanted to deal with today. “Trot her. Let's see if she's sound after her little... stumble? Your mare is a bitch, by the way.”[/blockquote][/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - RESERVED FOR--ashie and aubrey, not blaise. WORD COUNT-- 503 // complete NOTES-- HOW FUN. my teeth and ambitions are bared! Aubrey was well aware that until she fixed her attitude, he’d make nothing of her. He knew full well that unless she got her act together and decided that she wasn’t going to kill everything that sat on her back and asked her to go over a jump. Aubrey had seen her jump better than the best, and that’s what had made him really decide to keep her and not sell her. The day he had gone and visited her she was only a few months under saddle, but had been free jumping for almost all her life, he had first asked to see her free jump, and she had sold him at that moment, but he had made the possibly fatal mistake of asking them to ride her instead of getting on himself.
At least he knew not to make that mistake the next time he was buying green horses.
His light hearted laugh filled the arena as Grace said there was nothing she could find to possibly say about that episode, and he didn’t expect her to have any critique for it, because technically it didn’t count as a jump. He found it amusing that his horse had silenced the trainer; he wondered if he could do that next time. Out of the corner of his eye he watched the girl; she was standing a good five feet back from the fence. Grace barked at the girl, who he learned was called ‘Dani’, to reset the line then asked him if his mare was a rearer as she stuck her head in the air when Dani climbed into the arena.
Gazing at the pinned ears and catching the corner of his mare’s eye looking at him he raised an eyebrow.
Then he shrugged and nonchalantly declared, Only when she’s in heat. Dealing with the mare when she was in heat was hell, she was ten times worse than she was on a regular day, most of the time he just chose not to ride her in the weeks before and after her ovulation. He used it as a good way to give her a break, which it seemed she needed a lot. Carefully patting her neck he nodded as Grace suggested he get her into a trot to make sure she was ok. Aubrey knew she was fine, he would have felt any irregularity and she would have had him on the ground by now, but he didn’t feel like arguing with the trainer.
The only question was whether or not he’d get her to move.
First he gently pressed his heels into her side, she only snarled and pinned her ears harder, he then kicked her, and she kicked up at his ankle in return, at that he couldn’t help but laugh. Finally, he gave her a mighty kick and a rap on the shoulder with the whip, and she got the message. But instead of walking forward like a normal lazy horse, she hopped up at least six feet in the air and spun around to face the side where Dani had crawled back out to, and if Aubrey didn’t know her better, he’d say she was just spooked by the girl, but he knew better than anyone else that she was warning her. Shaking his head he wretched her head back around and kicked her into a trot.
She was sound as she could be.
With the line set back up, he wasn’t about to let her get away with her shit, bringing her back into the canter he called out, We’re going to give that another try and if we make it through we’ll move on, but she’s going to get that line right. That meant, there’d be no miss step, no long spot, no rail down, no jump down, no riding close to the base, nothing. When he said he wanted perfection, he drove for it. Circling twice to get her head back in the game he took a deep breath and slowly let it out as he counted the strides, he considered doing it out loud to keep her mind focused on him and not killing him, but he’d save that for last resorts. Just like last time, she took the first jump perfectly, but the second jump was already in her sights and he knew she was going to do it again.
But that was not going to fly.
Barking at her to cut it out, he tapped her on the shoulder and rode her through the second jump, but noticed a half step thrown in there at the end, he’d wait to see what Grace had to say. The third jump suddenly posed a problem as she pinned her ears and threatened to buck, but he wasn’t about to let that happen again. Hitting her as hard as he could on the rump, he loosened his reins and purposely rode her dangerously close to the base of the jump. Faced with only one choice, as he had closed the door of disobedience, she complied and sprang over, landed and switched her leads two or three times before he asked her to walk. Looking at Grace he recalled her making sure he knew his mare was a bitch and said, And yes, she reminds me almost every day that she’s a wretched cow.

just gonna stand there and watch me BURN, - - - - - - - - - - Sighing at his comment about her being a rearer at times, that was really something she didn't want to deal with. At her old barn, rearers had been tolerated as long as they jumped well. But now that was she was coaching and had seen one too many horses go right over backwards because of that ignorance, and she didn't want to deal with that. The last horse that had reared on her (which had been her own bitch mare) had been smacked on the poll with a crop as hard as she could, and that had quickly bit that habit in the ass. She hadn't been too impressed to climb on the mare for the first time and have her just rear straight up and pin her ears. Watching Aubrey's mare, she waited and was pleased to see that she wasn't really going up. Once again, she didn't even have words for the mare's explosive behaviour as she leaped and spun around to look at Danielle. She didn't even real see any reason for the mare to be spooking at her and took in to count that the mare was probably just being a bitch. But then again there was always the slightest chance that her wearing obnoxious colours was upsetting the mare.
“DANIELLE. You're obnoxiously blinding boot socks are spooking horses,” she commented, looking over at her and raising an eyebrow. The girl just leaned against the fence, sipped her coffee and rolled her eyes at her. Grace made a mental note to beat her for that later.
Aubrey set the mare back out at the canter, and she admired his persistence as he pushed her forward. “I admire your persistence with her,” she commented, there honestly wasn't anything she could do with the mare being so ridiculously inconsistent. If she knew the pair better, she would have at least tried to offer some sort of coaching. Going with her gut instinct of not being able to sit there and watch and not say anything. “Keep your lower leg on her maybe, just keep sending her forward.” She watched as the wretched mare went through the line, looking like she wanted to stop but was driven on aggressively. Waiting until she was down back to the walk, she just shook her head at his comment about her being a wretched cow. If that were here, she wouldn't put up with that. Which in a sense was a bit hypocritical of her, considering how long she had tried to make the mare in to a nice hunter prospect. That didn't happen.
“With most normal cases, I would usually make you beat your mare through that line until she stopped trying to pull shit. But honestly, I just don't think it'd work like that. So instead, I'm just going to set bounces down the whole long side and keep her busy.” Shrugging, bitched at Danielle to go set as many bounces as she could down that long side.
Sighing in irritation, the girl went over there, being sure to avoid getting near her coach and the horse, she several bounces up down the long side before trudging back out to the ring and sitting down on the ground a couple feet away from the fence.
“So, lets just go back and forth through the bounces until she decides to behave I guess.”

my teeth and ambitions are bared! Grace barked at Dani to go set up some bounces and the girl just sighed angrily and went about her set up job, Aubrey wondered how big of an attitude adjustment the girl needed. She looked like a child who had been spoiled all her life with parents shoveling money into the fire to keep her occupied. She seemed like the type of teenager who would be pregnant with two other kids at home to take care of simply because she was bored, so it was probably a good thing that she was too busy riding push button horses to go out get drunk, fuck a random stranger and get knocked up.
First impressions were important, and he’d just made his.
It would be a lie to say that Aubrey was not pleased that Grace admired his persistence with his horse, he shrugged and said, Persistence is everything, is it not? He studied Danielle as she set up the bounces and began to plan how he’d get the mare through them without any mishaps. Grace gave him a little instruction and admitted that there was little she could do for them, he figured it may have been a little more constructive lesson if he had ridden Underdog or Glitterati, but he had felt like dealing with the beast. He moved off with Destiny once more, cautiously testing her responsiveness to his seat and leg making her slow down and speed up before they got to the jumps.
Rounding the corner, it was like she knew what was up.
But he was not about to let her get away with not jumping. Coming up to the first jump, she bowed her shoulder, only to get hit with the whip. Deciding against misbehaving, she hopped over the first one, and as her back feet hit the ground she was already going over another one. Aubrey always had fun riding bounces, even if they were simply to make a disobedient horse behave. Surprisingly, she hopped through the line just like the angel she could be at times.
However, he was not prepared for her final word in the argument.
Landing the third to last jump, she bunched up her back muscles, and Aubrey snarled the second he felt it, knowing she was about to stop, rear, buck, run out or run into it, but he was wrong. With the half stride she had to ready herself she leapt over the last two bounces (a spread of at least 6’) like they were nothing. Landing she threw her head in the air and cantered around for a little bit before he called her down to a trot then a walk, shaking his head and laughing he called, I think your jump bitch set that last one wrong, she read it as an oxer. Leaning over he quickly pat her on the neck and spoke to the mare, Ok, see. You can do it, but I just want to remind you that this isn’t the Grand Prix ring just yet, you’ve gotta prove that you won’t kill me. She only lent him a single ear to listen, the other one swiveled around listening.
Stopping in front of Grace he suggested that they should end on that, as he knew that anything beyond would only escalate into a fight.

give me one more shot with everything you've got, - - - - - - - - - - Grace watched as the two rounded the corner, the mare jumping through the bounces quite well. Until coming out, she decided to jump the last two like an oxer. Kicking hard behind, the mare flew over them effortlessly and cantered away without a bucking fit. Shaking her head, she laughed quietly to herself. There wasn't much you could do with that kind, except just wait it out and see if they outgrew their unpredictable temperament. At Aubrey's comment toward the bounces, she looked over at them- they looked like they were all set the same, and she trusted Danielle's skill to set fences at the right stride. Watching as he walked her over, she agreed that it would be a good idea to just end there with the mare- on a more positive note.
“Definitely, on a more positive note for her. Although, may I suggest next time you want a lesson to use a more... predictable horse?” She said, laughing slightly and watching the mare.
Being quite pleased to see that the lesson appeared to be over, Danielle made her way in to the ring. Walking quite quickly and ignoring the sand filling her flats- probably not the best decision to wear in to the ring. She had her tall boots on earlier, but she hated wearing those when she wasn't riding. With two cups of coffee in hand, she stopped beside Grace and held it out for her, smiling at her politely.
“I bought you a coffee,”she said simply, then looked up at the boy on the horse. She hadn't realized how good looking he was until now, blinking for a moment she forgot what she had been about to say. It came back as quickly as it left, looking back up at Aubrey she corrected him, “for once thing, I am not her bitch. And secondly, I definitely didn't those wrong, maybe your shithead mare should learn how to jump through bounces.”
Ignoring her bitch comments toward Aubrey, Grace sighed wearily at her before saying: “You know, you're not supposed to have caffeine when you're pregnant.” “So?” “As tempting as it is, I can't drink that. But I need to get home, so I will talk to you both later.”
Danielle watched as Grace waddled off, shaking her head she looked up at the guy once more (staying out of lunging range from his mare). “I'm Danielle, by the way. Dani for short. What's your name? Oh, hey do you want a coffee?” She held up the coffee that Grace hadn't wanted, not wanting to waste it because there was no way she was going to drink it. Her whole bribe hadn't worked the way she wanted it too, buying people coffee only worked when they actually could drink it.
Now she would just have to bring her some sort of edible thing that she baked back from work. Then she couldn't really give her any bullshit excuse about being pregnant and not being able to have it. Sipping at her coffee, she swallowed the sweet drink (she had a tendency to load hers up with sugar and milk) before taking another step back, realizing that she was still possibly in striking rage from that mare.

my teeth and ambitions are bared! With the lesson over, it seemed like Grace was not too keen to want to stick around, but he didn’t blame her, it was cold and was starting to get really windy, he would have ditched a long time ago, not a particular fan of the cold to begin with. He was shocked that Grace didn’t demand that he move to the indoor arena when she had seen that he was riding outside, because if he were her, he would have threatened to take his money without getting a lesson unless he went into the indoor.
But Aubrey played dirty.
It seemed that Dani also noticed that the lesson was over and scrambled into the arena with the two coffee cups in hand. He wondered if she was stupid enough to try to offer the pregnant coach a glass of coffee. Clearly, he was right, as she got closer she held out one cup as if in offering, but Grace turned it down and dismissed herself. The two were left alone as they watched her waddle away. While Dani was still looking at Grace, he studied the girl, she was cute enough, but the clothes really subtracted from her looks. She then finally turned and asked if he wanted the coffee, staring at it he inquired, Can you put alcohol in it?
Dani stared at him then told him she couldn’t.
That news was devastating, shaking his head he said he didn’t want any. It was rare he drank coffee or tea, he felt like a woman every time he did. He couldn’t help but notice how terribly dressed she was, leaning back in his saddle he snidely asked, Can I buy you some new clothes, seriously? You look like you walked through a Wal-Mart clearance rack, it’s actually really hideous, and in remark to your previous comment, you are her bitch, whether you want to admit it or not. And if you think you can ride my shit head mare better, please feel free to do so, but I saw some of your lesson and girl, you fucking suck. Dani looked at him strangely and shook her head and said something, but he really wasn’t listening.
Whatever she had to say to defend herself he was not interested in.
In typical Aubrey fashion, he continued to go from one end of the mood pendulum to the other and said, Just tuck your butt under you more and use your thighs for support in the two point, with a stronger back and squarer shoulders you’ll be a lot more stable and less likely to get jumped out of the tack. Dani appeared to disregard his comments on her riding and said that instead of buying her new clothes he could buy her dinner.
That was a strange trade off.
Raising an eyebrow he laughed and said, Ok. Give me your address and I’ll be there at eight sharp, but don’t be late or I’ll leave you and be forced to eat dinner all by myself.
o5o5 reserved: NOW JUST DANI xD notes:I see what you did there with your reservations.
