Today was just not a good day, actually the past few weeks had been terrible. It all started with Jamie's 'date' with Jayden at the zoo, which had turned into a disaster and then kept getting worse when she lost a client because the horse was absolutely dangerous. Now Skippy had coliced so he was out of the show circuit for awhile, at least two weeks, and she had picked up another training project that was proving to be a shit head. So Jamie had been attempting to get her life together but it just didn't want to be put together for some reason. Maybe God was trying to tell her something, show her that she needed to change who she was in order to keep things going well.
Taking a deep breath as she walked towards the barn, Jamie hung her helmet outside the new horses' stall before heading to say hi to her three. They were outside playing in their pastures being typical stallions and only came over to get their apples. Once they were off playing again Jamie went to go get the new horse ready. He was smart, well off in training already and could jump anything set in front of him but he had a little habit. He liked to rear...or so says his owner. Jamie hadn't had an issue with him yet rearing but she figured she'd keep him and teach him some other things. He was a monstrous 17.2 hand Oldenburg stud, dark bay with no white on him anywhere other than his brand. For as monstrous as Sieban was, he definitely loved attention and didn't act like a humongous horse. Jamie had found he hated to be yelled at, loved his ears scratched and if you asked nicely he did what you asked. He acted more like a gelding than a standing stallion who competed all over the country.
He stood quietly as Jamie groomed him, allowing her to do whatever she wished to him without so much as a snort. He flipped his tail every so often at a fly, stomped his foot occasionally but otherwise he was such a calm horse. Jamie somehow got him saddled, with help from Sieban's feed bucket to stand on of course, and he had learn to put his head down so she could bridle him. "Helmet..." she mumbled to herself before walking to the indoor, tightening his girth up and hopping on. Sieban didn't really look at the jumps that were set up in the indoor, even the big scary swedish oxer didn't bother him with it's bright colors and crazy wings. Jamie was beginning to like this horse and if his owners didn't want him she would buy him in a heartbeat. She asked for the trot and he went forward, stretching his nose down to about his knees and plodded along at a nice pace for a warm up.
As Jamie rose and fell in her posting she let her body relax, let her mind concentrate on what was at hand right now and not what was going on in her life. With stallions you could never let your mind wander, they always found a way to hurt you or do stupid shit if you did. Like Skippy for example, when no one was watching him he decided to eat a nice weed outside and coliced from it. So Jamie made sure she was concentrating on her horses when she rode because she didn't need to get hurt. Changing directions was easy,Sieban was spur broke so all it took was a touch of her spur and he would turn where she wanted him to without question. It amazed her that he apparently reared with his owner, maybe because she didn't know how to ride him she didn't know. Jamie just could not figure it out, especially when Sieban seemed to want to work. Shaking her head a bit she let him walk a bit, catch his breath and then asked him to round onto the bit just a little bit.
That's when she noticed something was different today. When Jamie asked for him to round just a bit he stiffened up and almost came to a stop. See, Jamie had asked him before and he had done it no problem so when he did stiffen it made her frown. "Hey now." she said gently, reaching down to rub his neck, which seemed to get him to calm down. So began her experiment. Jamie asked for a deeper round and he did stop, so she reached forward to pat his neck, talk to him and just generally try to sooth him. Every time she did he relaxed his neck and back, flip his tail once or twice before munching on his bit a little. Jamie kept talking to him as she asked him to move forward while deep on the bit, waiting until he had walked an entire trip around the arena before letting him go to a longer round so he wasn't so deep on the bit. Doing the same process again she realized that he stiffened up a bit but not as much as before.
Aha. So that meant it was his owner who was causing the issue with rearing. Shaking her head she asked him to trot, letting him stretch a little as they went around and then began to gather him up. He was almost to the first level dressage frame Jamie had been working him in when he came to a complete stop and reared. Thank goodness Jamie was a balanced rider because he went straight up in the air to the point Jamie had to almost pull him down out of it. This concerned her, she didn't like this at all and when she looked down at Sieban, he was shaking. Jamie wasn't going to hit him, that would only make matters worse, so instead she asked him to move forward. He hesitated but once he did she gave him big praise for listening. Asking for the trot again he went forward, this time rounding onto the bit where she wanted him without question. The next test would be the canter but for right now, she wanted to see what the hell was going through this horses' head.

head strong ill take on anyone. Most therapists would have suggested that Jayden should contemplate and consider his actions if he ever wanted anything to last longer than one date. Most therapists or doctors would agree that he had a personality disorder that could be fixed if he wanted to, fixed easily (but slowly). Moreover, if he truly cared about making himself a better person, a person he was before he let the depression and traumatic stress take over he could. So many people had told him all he had to do was let go.
They said it was as easy as forgetting.
Unfortunately for them, he didn’t want to let go, the last thing he wanted to do was forget. He was happy (in a sense) being miserable just so he’d remember that alcohol killed the one person that cared whether or not he lived to see another sunset or if he ever walked again, and the fact that she had driven so angrily away from the hospital that day was because it was all his fault. He had grounds to change, but the desire was absent; he wasn’t done dwelling just yet, and as far as he was concerned, he would never be done dwelling.
Not even the possibility for new relationships and happiness could knock him off his unhappy track.
The ‘date’ with Jamie had not ended perfectly, nor did it really go smoothly, it started ok, but for the most part it had ended up as if the dating gods shit on them that day and laughed as the chaos unfolded, the ass holes were probably up there wondering how he could make another girl (or the same girl) cry again. Honestly, that wouldn’t be a very hard task for Jayden, it seems that making people cry was becoming as second nature to him as breathing or eating.
Regardless, he sort of hoped that he never saw the hard to please bitch again.
But he knew that fate hated him and that they’d meet up one way or another, whether she had a knife in her hand or not would simply be up to fate (again). It was cold out, and Jayde had no desire to ride in the outdoor arena, not to mention there was a couple of people jumping and he didn’t want to be all annoying and get in their way or get run over. His only choice was the indoor. Tacking up Dante, he ran the brush over the gelding’s seemingly sparkling clean coat, which was shocking to him because it always seemed that his horse found the smallest patch of mud and played mud wrestling on his own.
After tacking up, he looked around and figured he was alone.
However, as he dragged his horse over to the gate of the indoor, his dark eyes fell upon a rearing pony and a familiar female figure. He watched the show for a second and considered clapping, but he was far from entertained and decided not to. Looking around he started to get on then looked over at Jamie and said, You know, this arena is not big enough for two whiney bitches. We should draw sticks on who should leave. His voice was full of thick sarcasm and loathing.
No one said he had to try to be nice to her ever again, it wasn’t a law…yet.

The only reason Jamie noticed Jayden in the ring was him talking to her, saying some sarcastic comment about there being two bitches in the ring. Today was not the day for Jayden to really fuck with her because she was not in a good mood. Then again Jayden was never in a good mood since he decided to wallow in his self pity instead of get over himself. Those thoughts she would never say out loud simply due to the fact she hated fighting, especially with him. They now hated each other and Jamie hated that fact, she actually did have something for him but would never get that chance again.
Sighing as she brought Sieban down to a walk Jamie looked up at Jayden softly, making sure there was no anger or anything in her face. "Or we could just work our horses and stay out of each others way. I don't plan on being a bitch to you, so don't expect it," she said gently with a shake of her head, allowing Sieban to stop for a second. Jamie just watched Jayden, waiting for the absolute flip out to come back at her for being nice to him. Deciding not to wait for it she simply asked Sieban to walk on again, letting him find the bit before picking a trot in the other direction. Of all the people she had to share the ring with today it had to be the one guy who had embarrassed her in front of quite a lot of people at the zoo. A cute date idea gone terribly wrong.
Instead of being a bitch to Jayden for the rest of their lives she opted to just be nice, to really be who she was around him. Whether he liked it or not she was going to be nice to him and go out of her way not to piss him off. Sieban didn't seem to care that Dante was in the ring with him, the stallion choosing to just go along as asked by Jamie. Again to the canter he held it for awhile, rounding deep onto the bit until suddenly just deciding he wanted to stop. The stop just barely pushed Jamie off balance and she caught herself as she went up on his hind legs, coming down with a hard shake of his head. "Easy buddy," she said while stroking his neck, hopping down to check his bit. Taking her gloves off she carefully slipped her hand into his mouth to make sure the bit wasn't twisted or had any jagged edges on it. Touching his cheeks and teeth without getting bit she made sure he wasn't getting a sore mouth, had any cuts, etc. There was nothing there.
Shaking her head a bit Jamie hopped back on, going back into working while steering clear of Jayden. Sieban munched on his bit softly as he trotted on a long rein, putting his nose to the ground for a few strides. Lifting her eyes to look over at Jayden softly, she watched him with Dante. It really was almost poetry to watch him ride that horse, they fit each other very well. Sighing, she shook her head and looked back to Sieban, thinking of what could have been between her and Jayden. ( OUTFIT ) [/b] ( WORDS ) Meh I dunno ( TAGGED ) JAYDEN! head strong ill take on anyone. Jayden had always been told as a kid that to kill with kindness and he’d always win. He’d given the whole ‘nice’ thing a try every now and then, but always found that he ended up in a worse spot than before. It was rare that he took upon himself to be nice to people he did not feel particularly happy around. In fact, Jayden was a firm believer in the understanding that misery loved company; who was he to keep misery lonely? Obviously Jayde was going to do anything he could to make everyone around him miserable since he too was miserable, he didn’t like to be alone.
Alone never worked well with him.
In the army, alone was equal to death, there was most certainly safety in numbers, that was another lesson that had been pounded into his brain at basic, his nightmares consisted of being alone. Alone was not something a soldier wanted to be out on the front line, which just made them an open target for death. Needless to say, Jayden was a self preservationist, and obviously he was doing a pretty damn good job so far seeing that he was still alive to breath another day and make someone else’s day miserable.
Maybe that’s what his next plan was with Jamie.
She had made his day miserable simply because she flew off the handle (not that he had reacted any better), and since then he hadn’t been as nice since then, he was blaming his recent slump on her and her inability to deal with him…though he didn’t really know anyone who could handle him when he was feeling like an ass with a little extra douche on top, as Jamie had experienced, he got into a mode of thinking that made it hard for anyone to bring him back to ‘normal’.
Regardless, he still got on Dante without waiting for her answer.
As he walked the gelding around he heard her soft voice, he turned his horse around to face her, her kindness kept him quiet, but only for a moment as he fired back, You don’t have to plan to be a bitch, it seems to just come natural. Once again, his voice was still full of loathing, had he been hurt by that shitty date? Probably, but he was too damn stubborn to admit that the first girl he had attempted to connect with was half of the problem the date went wrong, he being the other half.

Jamie just could not deal with the bullshit that Jayden brought with him, especially today. Life had been kicking her in the face and in another place repeatedly since their failed date had happened. All it would take was one little thing and it would push her right over the edge of straight up depression. When Jayden snapped back at her, it was that one thing that would set her off. No, Jamie would not get mad, snap back at Jayden and cause yet another all out brawl between them. No, Jamie just stopped Sieban right where he was and let him walk out. Tears welled in her eyes and it was not something she wanted Jayden to see.
With Jamie she just couldn't handle people being outright asshole-ish to her. She did actually have a heart down in her chest and her heart was hurting at the moment, hurting for Jayden. Ok, that sounds mad cheesy but it was the truth at the moment because when they had gone on the date she found she had liked Jayde...before the fight. Jayden was the first guy in forever to so much as look at her in any way other than a drinking buddy or a chill buddy. Jamie had actually made an effort to be herself around Jayden in hopes of something else happening between them but that never got that far. They had nearly killed each other at the zoo and Jamie had gone home that night to just cry. Cried herself to sleep, cried until she couldn't cry anymore just to get up the next day and force herself to go to work. To the moment Jayden had called her a bitch she had thought she would be able deal with seeing him around the barn, that wasn't the case.
Jamie had her face hidden behind her hand at the moment but she had to swing down from Sieban to walk him out of the ring. It took her another two or three minutes to swing down off the tall ass horse, rolling her stirrups up and loosened the girth. Before she turned to leave she shook her head, turning it just enough to see him. "Ya know I'm sorry you think I'm such a huge bitch. I'm not, just...broken," shaking her head softly, Jamie walked to the door of the indoor and led Sieban straight out into the barn. Right to his stall and she managed to get his bridle off before the full break down began. The best part about it all was the fact that Jamie took all of Sieban's tack off, put it away and sponged him down before going into the locker room. She was praying no one walked into the room right now to see her having a minor mental break down, and oh yes this was minor. If she had a major breakdown she wouldn't come out of her apartment for days. Setting her helmet on the bench beside her, she rest her face in her hands and just let herself have a good, long cry. head strong ill take on anyone. The second she caught his less than humble reply he realized that she was as hurt as he was. His throat closed in horror as he noticed the stoic, blank expression that always seemed to come before someone was about to cry. That’s where she had caught him at his worst; dealing with emotions. Hell, he had a hard enough time dealing with his own, it was hard to take on someone else’s emotional baggage as well as manage his own. Most of the time, as Jamie had experienced, when he was forced to experience someone else’s emotions while he was having an abnormal emotional moment he shut down, it was like a blue screen of death.
Cannot compute, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars.
Unfortunately, it seemed that Jamie, unlike Jayden, was an overly emotional woman (but weren’t they all?), and did not take very well to his brand of handling hurt. Just like how he wasn’t accustomed to handling her way of dealing with the pain. Obviously that could only go so well, as history had already proved. Then, if he knew that nothing good could come out of it, why was he so interested in pursuing her? In making her feel a little less pain.
Was it because he had hurt his fiancé so deeply she went and did something that ended up killing her?
Guilt, much like sadness or pain, was another emotion and feeling Jayde had a hard time coming to terms with, he was still running that night’s events through his mind, her bruised and swollen face vividly flashing across his vision when he was asked to identify her body every time he blinked, the angry words they had spat at each other echoed in his mind every time there was silence. He was a tortured soul just looking for a way to get out, and sometimes making people (or just Jamie) cry was his only way.
Sighing heavily he finished working Dante then got off to go untack.
Leading the gelding back into the barn, he looked around for Jamie and did not see her anywhere. His heart dropped as he realized she was probably already gone. Angrily kicking at the air he quickly untacked his horse and put the gelding up. Picking up his tack he walked into the tack room and found exactly who he was looking for. Quietly putting his stuff up he turned and looked at her for a second before saying, Ok, three things. One, stop crying, it’s an ugly expression and doesn’t suit you. Two, it’s all agreed that I’m a useless ass hole who can’t do anything right but make you cry and should probably stop trying, He took a step closer and squatted down, tilting his head slightly and said, And three, I’m sorry for everything. Truly sorry from the bottom of my black, damaged, pained heart, I live by the idea that misery loves company, and I have clearly made the wrong person miserable, and maybe I have four things to say. I doubt it’s the last thing you want to do, but maybe we should try again, I don’t know, something like dinner or movies…on me. Something neutral and simple with little room for me to fuck up and make you cry…again…or not. I probably deserve one or two knives in the back, I don’t know.
At least he was trying…again.

It was taking everything Jamie had to not have the biggest breakdown she had ever had right there in the middle of the locker room/tack room. Crying was all she would allow herself to do at the moment but she really didn't want to cry at the barn where she worked. What if a client walked in? Her client, or clients, could decide that they didn't want to have someone who was emotionally unstable work with their horses, that Jamie was a liability to their horse being trained properly. Oh hell right about now she didn't give a flying shit because she was hurting inside, pretty damned badly to the point she was not prepared for Jayden to talk to her.
He had crouched in front of her and was saying he was sorry. What the hell? He was apologizing again, well actually he should since after all he had called her a huge bitch and that being one was just oh so natural for her. Honestly it wasn't a natural thing for Jamie, she was a total sweetheart that she didn't really have a mean bone in her body. Of course she could snap back at people but she didn't actually say anything hurtful to someone, well hurtful enough to make them loathe her presence. She moved her hands from her face to grab a tissue and brush the smeared, running make up from her face. Sniffling a little she lifted her bright blue eyes to look at Jayden a little bit and just contemplated what he had just said to her. His tone of voice had completely changed and...and did she detect sincerity in his voice. He was suggesting they try again, and it made her giggle helplessly because she thought of something. "Sorry. Just...made me think of someone saying 'we can try again...we'll have a kid eventually'," Jamie mimicked a guys voice as best she could and giggled even more.
Once her little fit was over she actually thought his proposition over. A movie wouldn't be bad, or dinner either. "Or how about you come over to my apartment and I cook us dinner? We can just...talk ya know?" Her pretty little eyes looked at him pleadingly, a little bit of hope sparkling through them. Maybe life wasn't going to go so downhill for right now, already things were looking up from the hell she had just been in. God Jayden was so cute, all she wanted to do right now was play with his hair but she might get smacked if she did that so her hands just played with the tissue in her hands. Now they just needed another fight and Jamie would move back home to attempt making a life for herself there instead. "I'd like to fix things between us. And I am sorry for all that I said at the zoo, can we just start over? Like...Hi I'm Jamie, I'm an over-emotional chick who tends to cry a lot. Who the hell are you?"

head strong ill take on anyone. Jayden was expecting Jamie to simply glare at him then tell him off, like any normal woman would. Most normal women would throw in the towel the first time he made them cry, much less the second or maybe even third (let’s face it, the fact that he’ll make her cry is inevitable). Jayden was beginning to realize that targeting her was not a smart thing; she was someone that could potentially be of use to him, to help him deal with the depression or even force him to get over it. Clearly she was a kinder person than the regular run of the mill human being, far kinder than he was at least.
Just the type of person he should try to latch himself on to.
She sniffled and looked at him, her blue eyes watery, but he was sure he saw a hint of understanding or acceptance or maybe even forgiveness (at this point he didn’t really deserve forgiveness). However, what he wasn’t suspecting was to see was a bit of humor, then to hear her giggle, he was slightly taken aback, he raised an eyebrow then laughed at her poor impression of a man’s voice and sad attempt at humor, shaking his head and rubbing his face with a hand he said, That was the worst impression of a man’s deep voice that I have ever heard, don’t quit your day job to become an impressionist. And don’t worry honey, we can always try for a kid next time.
No one said he couldn’t try to go along with the joke either.
When she suggested that he go over to her house he raised an eyebrow again. Wasn’t it generally the male’s job to invite the female over for coffee and sex? Or was he over-reading her statement like a typical man would. It was going to be a quiet night, a night of making up for the damage caused from their first attempt, he didn’t need any more enemies, and he was willing to start over. She toyed with the tissue in her hand and he blankly watched her hands, but her voice brought his eyes back to her face, he looked up and gave a half-hearted smile, holding up a hand he said, Hello, my name is Jayden. I’m an emotionally scarred soldier on disability leave from the US Army, I’m also a useless ass hole that makes women named Jamie Manlow cry more times than she needs to…did I miss anything?

So they were going to attempt to start over and Jamie was at least relieved about that. She didn't have an enemy in him, at least for now and she was going to try her damndest to keep him from becoming an enemy. His end of the joke made her giggle helplessly for a bit and she shook her head. "I have a bad, twisted sense of humor and you just added to it," she said through her giggling and looked at him. He babbled on about who he was and how he was a scared soldier, something she had heard before from other people. "You forgot cute." That made her blush a whole lot and it took a lot for her to blush normally, even a little bit. Jamie had just admitted to him that she thought he was cute, oh boy this would be interesting.
"Well if you wish to, you can come over tonight or whenever you want to for dinner. I learned to cook from my grandmom so I can cook just about anything," she said with a big smile, reaching up to touch the tissue to her cheeks again. She just had a feeling that she had more makeup streaming down her face from her tears before and wanted the makeup off. Whenever Jayden decided to come over for dinner would be the perfect time for her because she was just excited that they were going to try again. The disaster that had happened before was virtually forgotten for now so they could attempt at being friends, and possibly more if Jamie's wishes went right.
Oh how happy Jamie would be if her and Jayden got something going, even if it was just sex. It had been way too long since Jamie had been with a guy in any shape or form so even touching him would make her happy. Slowly taking a deep breath in she pushed some of her hair from her face but it just fell right back in front of her right eye so she gave up, working on deciding what to do now. She still had a bunch of crap to do at home and it would take her a little while to do them. Sieban was worked but she should work her two that were in condition to work since Skippy had colicked earlier in the week. "I have so much shit to do this week it's ridiculous. The frikken indoor showing season is starting up soon and I have to get the boys clipped before the week is out. Hopefully Mouse doesn't wrap himself around the chord this time," she said with a shake of her head, looking at Jayden. Holy hell he was adorable, why did she keep thinking that?

head strong ill take on anyone. The idea that he’d be going over to someone’s house for conversation (or sex, he had no idea how it’d end up) was a strange concept for him. Most of the time he invited people over to his place, he considered himself a pretty good cook, he could make intricate meals but they weren’t always quickly cooked, but the fact that he could even cook and sustain life, which was more than most men could claim. At least he wouldn’t starve to death, but he wasn’t opposed to people cooking for him, so obviously he wasn’t going to turn down Jamie’s desperate attempt to make things right.
He wanted to start over as well, so it was all good.
She made herself blush by calling him cute, and Jayde was flattered; it was rare that he got comments on his physical appearance, but he also didn’t allow many people near him who would possibly find him attractive. Lucky for her, he was mildly interested in her and found her attractive as well, being attractive was helpful when trying to capture the illusive Jayden Ray attention, however once the attention is captured, there’s not much that can happen to lose it.
Other than act like a bitch.
That mistake that they both made almost cost them the second chance, as Jayde is no big supporter of second chances, believing that there’s only one time to get shit right, get it wrong and you’re screwed forever. But, once again, goes back to the army mentality that had been mercilessly drilled into his unsuspecting skull. In fact, the army re-shaped his personality in many ways that he didn’t want it to.
One of the setbacks to belonging to the United States armed forces, right?
Or was it a good thing? They were just trying to make the best men to protect the U.S. and what it stands for. Jamie told him that whenever he wanted to would be good, he thought about it and decided that maybe waiting a week before a date was what had messed them up and said, Hell, if you’re willing to cook tonight that means I don’t have to cook for myself, I’m almost lazy like that. He grinned at her then tuned her out as she began to speak of everything she had to do. Standing back up, he stretched and said, What time? Do I need to bring anything? Wine? Bread? Bread and wine? Cookies? Cake? Ice cream? Me, myself and I?

i think the spotlight always gives you stage fright †WISH THIS ALL WOULD END RIGHT†

Ho my gosh, Jayden was actually going to come over her house tonight and have dinner. Would they just talk? Or would they go farther than that? Like WAY farther? Now that she was thinking about it her heart quickened a bit but she did remind herself it wouldn't necessarily be bad because it had been so long since she'd been with someone. It wouldn't be the best way to get into somewhat of a relationship with Jayde but it would be something. Better than yelling at each other incessantly like before. No bitching at each other about being bitchy, just two naked bodies causing massive amounts of friction.
Oh boy she had to get her mind off of that subject because she was getting a little excited there. Taking a deep breath, she opted to look up at him and try to get her mind off of her thoughts. "Tonight is perfectly fine. I'm done for the day so I'm free," she smiled gently as she spoke. The advantage to being a trainer was that she made her hours. Normally she rode early but if she wanted to, she could come at four in the afternoon to ride her horses. It was really nice to get all of the riding done early so she had her days to do what she needed to get done. Most days that was go home, get a shower and sleep. Today it was going to be go home, get a shower and start making dinner. Now that she had someone to make gnochi for, she would make the adorable little cheese and spinach filled noodles that tasted oh so delicious.
"Just you, yourself and Jayden," Jamie giggled at herself with a shake of her head, looking up at Jayden lightly. It was amazing how this girl could get herself to feel better pretty quickly, even if she did have that nervous doubt in the back of her head. She was naturally afraid they were suddenly going to have a huge bitch fest and cause each other more pain, causing a completely destroyed chance of Jamie having any form of a normal relationship. Of course she'd probably find someone eventually but as of right now, she was in dire need of some snuggle time and in general human interaction time. Horses were amazing company but after awhile, talking to someone in person was much needed. Taking in a slow breath she stood up, realizing how tiny she was beside Jayden.
Jamie stood at a very petite five foot one inch, maybe she broke five foot two but she highly doubted that. She was skinny on top of that so it made her seem even smaller, almost doll sized as her brother would say. He was also a giant six foot five and could pick her up with his pinky...well he probably could. Jayden made her feel small but she had a feeling if she were to be wrapped up in his arms she'd feel incredibly safe. "If you want to bring wine it's up to you, I'm more a beer drinker. I'm a country girl through and through." It was the truth, she actually hated wine and loved her a good bottle of Jager or Guiness. That also reminded her that she had to stop at the store and get some for the house since her brother had drank it all when he was visiting last time. "But, since it's getting later and I have a few quick errands to run before heading home, I'm gonna go. Here's my address-" she wrote it on his hand gently, feeling like she was in high school again"-and see you around seven-ish?"
