Being pregnant was awful. All the romance and motherly love and shit like that was all a complete lie. The only "glow" Kody got from being pregnant was being particularly moody and wanting to decapitate anyone who looked at her half the time. It was no secret that Kody was not one to be trifled with, while pregnant her hormones heightened so much that most of the time she might as well have been a walking serial killer. Everyone was walking on egg shells around her, particularly the last three months when she was supposed to be on bed rest. Though Ash protested, he didn't push too hard when she got up and on her feet. He was a fast learner, and considering she blamed him for this whole pregnancy thing, he was quite wise to mostly just let her do as she pleased. All in all, there had been absolutely nothing pleasant about the last nine months of their lives. There were rare moments where the hormones tapped Kody into her feminine mothering side, but those moments were few and far between and they did not last long at all. Inwardly, she knew she was being a horrible bitch to Ash, and she knew it took two people to make a baby, but still, she had to blame someone or something, so she blamed it half on him and half on the hormones and called it good. Besides, he wasn't the one who had to walk around with two humans inside of his body for nine months, now was he? As far as she was concerned, if she had to deal with not being able to do her job, ride her horse, or even walk from the bedroom to the kitchen, he could deal with her hormonal rage. It was only fair. When they day finally came that she was to go in for her C-section she could not have been more relieved, and she was sure she wasn't the only one who shared that sentiment. Truthfully though, even though she couldn't wait to get the pregnancy over with, the idea of a c-section was almost as terrifying as going into labor. She'd had plenty of surgery before, but this was entirely different. Kody had no qualms about it until the doctor was explaining how they would make a small incision and then the rest would have to be torn. Those weren't his words, but the way she heard it, they were basically going to rip her open to get the babies out. So when they asked if she wanted to be awake for it, she told them that there was no way in hell she would want to be awake for that and they had damn well better make sure she didn't feel a thing or there would be the devil to pay. They seemed to have taken her seriously. By the time they went home after about a week, staying longer just as a precaution considering someone of Kody's small stature carrying twins all the way to term was a rather monumental feat, Kody already felt significantly more normal. Still horribly out of shape and stiff and a bit hormonal, but better. Just having that extra 11 pounds of baby out of her body made her feels so much more free. She still had baby weight, of course, but she was one of the lucky ones who didn't really gain an atrocious amount of weight, likely because of her fitness level before the pregnancy. Granted, she still wasn't really allowed to do much for the next six weeks, but at least she wasn't stuck on bedrest anymore and she could at least do some things around the house. Kody wasn't really the domestic sort to want to do cleaning and cooking and such but she'd been going so stir crazy from three months of bedrest that right now she would like nothing more than to just do the damn laundry or wash the dishes. What she really wanted to do was see her horses but she was just going to have to wait on that one for a while longer. When they finally arrived home, she slid out of Ash's truck with relief, retrieving one of the twins from the back seat. The hospital staff always mistook the other two for each other, considering how close to completely identical they were. Kody insisted, though that Addison, who she how held in her arms, looked much more like Ash than Emma did. They all just said it was her "motherly instincts" which made her able to tell them apart to which she had to scoff. She did not have motherly instincts, and she was quite sure that every time someone mentioned it, Ash was probably inwardly chuckling at the thought. Addison had Ash's eyes, Emma had hers. It wasn't that difficult to figure out. As they walked up to the house, Kody glanced over her shoulder at Ash, and in her typical snarl said, "Never do that again." She was quite certain that he had just as little desire to go through that again as she did, and he probably didn't need the warning. |
