personality » To an outsider, the sober Gabriel seems cautious, untrusting, and independent. But Gabriel knows he's far more complicated than that. A minor social anxiety coupled with a failure to catch the subtle social cues leads to Gabriel cutting himself off most of the time, and either withdrawing into his own world, or relying on alcohol to deal with being human and its requirements. Normally, he rarely stands up for himself, and agrees with most things just to avoid conflict or misinterpretations. Under the influence of alcohol, however, he is far more animated and outgoing - almost normal, in fact, if slightly aggressive and forward.

appearance » Gabriel is 5'6" and claims a modest 125 lbs, although the actual number is likely far lower. He's skinny - and not the sexy looking, lean bodied-skinny. It's the something-not-quite-right look, one that he always tries to cover up with layers upon layers of flowing or baggy clothes, trying desperately for the 'casually disheveled' mark, and always missing. He has medium length light brown hair, and plain brown eyes.

life history » Gabriel grew up with his family on the edge of Kansas City, Kansas. He went to the local public school but never excelled in anything (not even drama, much to his mother's disappointment) except English. When he was eleven, his eight year old sister, Rose, insisted upon learning to ride. In order to get her son active in after-school activities, Hannah Mancini gave Gabriel a choice - drama, or riding. He chose horses, and, in spite of himself, enjoyed it. For three years, he was one of the few males in the Pony Club he went to, and enjoyed the status it gave him. Even though Rose quit after two years in favour of dance, he continued and leased an old event horse named Airship Pirate, or 'Punk for short.

As Gabriel became a teenager, however, his social problems became more evident, and his school performance suffered throughout high school. At fifteen, the problem was brought to a head when his father's dreams of university scholarships and honours in medical school began to crumble, and Tyler Mancini gave an ultimatum - either begin to pull up the performance in school, or be forced to quit riding. Unable to improve in school, Gabriel began looking at alternatives, and contacted his uncle Matthew Wesson, who lived in Colorado. By some miracle - or, more likely, some wheedling or blackmailing on Matthew's part - Gabriel was allowed to leave and go live with his uncle. Inspired by his uncle's work, Gabriel initially wanted to ride at the racetrack, but at a solid 155 lbs at sixteen, there wasn't much hope. And so he turned back to eventing, retraining an off-the-track three year old that Gabriel named Ender.

Once Gabriel turned eighteen and graduated (barely), he was told to move out - a decision hastened by increasing tension between himself, his uncle, and his parents - and on a whim and recommendation from an acquaintance, headed down to Addison, Texas. Under the pretense of starting over and agreeing to his father's ambitions, Gabriel receives a decent portion of money from his family each month, which allows him to live comfortably. Despite living in the area for a little under a year, he still does not know many people in the area, and has fewer friends.
