Maybe if she didn’t have a boyfriend who was constantly pointing out that horse riding was dangerous, it wouldn’t be so bad. It wasn’t like she hadn’t had horse riding accidents before, to be fair, but this was the first time in a long time where she had had someone who worried this much about it… her father was pretty used to it by now, since she and Talia had been riding for so long but Jared was probably still getting used to the whole idea of it. And it had been going okay so far, she hadn’t been involved in anything that would worry him, until Paddy had decided to throw her on the cross country course and it had resulted in her dislocating her knee.
And of course, she’d had to get Beth to call him and tell him what had happened when she went to the hospital. She couldn’t call her dad, he was out of Addison for business and Talia had moved, and even if her sister was around she doubted that she would have called her to come to the hospital anyway. So it had been Jared, and now naturally she was worried that he was going to freak out once he got there, if he wasn’t already doing so as soon as he had been informed.
She was already getting tired of just lying here in the stupid hospital bed, staring at the curtains around her bed, which she had asked the nurse to draw, not particularly feeling like staring at the other people inside the emergency department ward she was in while she waited. It would be easier if it was an arm or something, at least she would be able to move around a bit. But no, it was her leg, so she couldn’t. And to top it off they had said that she might need surgery on it, which sucked, because it would mean probably even more down time when it came to riding… and just walking properly in general. She didn’t know how she was going to handle it. - - - - - - - - - - you know that it all takes my breath away and now i'm left with nothing, so maybe it's true that i can't live without you, and maybe two is better than one, but there's so much time to figure out the rest of my life, and you've already got me coming undone and i'm thinking two is better than one |

Jared was getting used to this girlfriend thing again.. Though he had not been in a relationship since his ex-wife. He liked being with Ari, though sometimes he even questioned why she stuck around. He was rude and was not very quiet, and his manners were much less than perfect. Yet there she was, poised and confident and took no shit from anyone, including himself. She had a lot of values that he lacked, but somehow they clicked and he was okay for that. The only thing he didn’t particularly care about that Ari did? Those god damned horses. He hated them. He wasn’t sure why, honestly he was a little scared of horses. They had big teeth used to eat people with he was pretty sure. Who would want to ride something that had a mind of its own and could kill you?
Ari did. That is who! He tried to stay away from the barn as much as possible, and he was pretty sure she did not mind that at all. He would walk into the barn and start talking about all the possibilities of how Ari could possibly be killed. Kicked in the chest? Bitten in the jugular? These were all possibilities. He heard the same thing every day though “Jared, horses don’t kill people” or “I have not died yet and I’ve been riding all my life”. He always just quit talking about it. It wasn’t like he was going to force her to stop, no matter how much he wanted her to. He knew it was what she loved, just liked he loved his classic cars/motorcycles, trashy bars, and whiskey.
Today was like any other day. He was at work, using a skill saw to cut 2x4’s for a gardening shed that he was building for an elderly lady in an older part of Addison. All he had heard for the past couple of hours was the constant buzz of a saw and hammering. This of course changed when his phone would not quit vibrating in his pocket. He groaned, grumpy that someone was bugging him so much while he was trying to finish a project. Being a handyman, you bid for your time and materials and that is what you get paid for. If you go over time you are suddenly in the hole. He was already cutting it close to time because of the weather, but he still had a chance to get it done.. That was until he talked to the nurse on the other end of the line. All he really heard were the words Ari.. Hospital.. Horse. He stopped the saw, throwing the board on the ground and sprinting to his truck. He quickly slid into the passenger seat before speeding out of the driveway to the hospital.
It was a blur on how fast he got to the hospital. ”I told her.. I told her those things would kill her..” he mumbled, frustrated as he barged through the doors and do the counter where nurses were crowded around. He hated hospitals. They smelt like death and cleaning solution, and he was always pretty sure he was going to walk out with some new disease. ”Where is Arianna Clarkson?” he demanded, the nurses looking at him wide-eyed. ”Arianna Clarkson.. What room is she in? Is she okay?” he asked, watching as the nurses looked over logs. He listened as one directed him to the room Ari was in, briskly walking past them and towards her room.
”Ari… Ari, are you okay? I told you. I told you, you would get hurt. Now look, look at where we are.. The in fucking hospital because of those bastard animals. I told you. You are not riding anymore. That is it. Sell the flea bags!” he growled, his Scottish accent booming through the room causing nurses to stop and peak in as he paced at her bedside. She didn’t look like she was dying…. But he was convinced she was tragically hurt for life and that did not please him.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]Lying there in the hospital bed with nothing to do besides talk to the few nurses who stopped by every now and again to check on her made it feel like she had been there for an age – she’d never liked hospitals, they reminded her of when her mother had died, which was a long time ago now but it wasn’t exactly something you forgot easily, even if you had been in hospitals a fair bit over the years thanks to riding accidents and the like. She was really starting to get antsy about being there when a familiar booming voice came within earshot, demanding to know where she was – well, that wasn’t hard, he might have been on the other side of the hospital and she might still have been able to hear him.
Before long he was in the same room as her, watching him as he paced in an agitated manner next to her bed, not even bothering to say anything while he was still yelling and carrying on like he was, she doubted that he would even hear her over the top of his own voice right now anyway. Once she was sure that he had finished, she finally started speaking. “I’m fine… I landed on my knee wrong after I came off and I dislocated it. The doctor’s already said it’s not too bad, and it won’t take too long to heal up,” she told him, figuring that it would probably be better to get past the part that she was fine first. She’d had worse injuries from riding though, but she wasn’t going to tell him that. And she guessed it probably wasn’t a good idea to argue about selling Paddy with him right now either… not that she would actually agree to sell him unless she actually wanted to, which she didn’t.
“Just calm down, please? I don’t want them to throw you out,” she said, sighing a little. Well, with the way he was going, they were going to think he was some Scottish madman and have him thrown out, since she didn’t think he’d probably made a good impression on the nurses when he had burst in just now. - - - - - - - - - - you know that it all takes my breath away and now i'm left with nothing, so maybe it's true that i can't live without you, and maybe two is better than one, but there's so much time to figure out the rest of my life, and you've already got me coming undone and i'm thinking two is better than one |
