“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
It was about ten am when Maddie had rolled out of bed this morning and last nights mistake apparently chose to stick around. Maddie groaned as she woke up, the slight feeling of disgust started to grab a hold of her as she got dressed and went to the guest bathroom in the hallway. There was no way she'd make two mistakes in one day so she decided to not even use her own bathroom in thought that he'd wake up and she'd actually have to talk to him. She couldn't remember a whole lot about last night but that was probably for the best. His name had completely went through one ear and out the other but that was ok with her; she really didn't give a shit.
She showered quietly before she dried her hair, got dressed, and put her hair into a pony tail without looking into the mirror... Not because she didn't want to, but simply because she couldn't, the mirror was too high off the ground. She sighed, unlocking the door and wandering back into her room, grabbing her sunglasses off her dresser, and making a hasty retreat downstairs. She sat in the kitchen, phone on the counter, eyes staring at the floor, and completely silent. She yawned and rested her head on one hand, while surfing the news with the other on her phone. She hadn't always been this way, but it seemed like a she had been on a slippery slope the past couple months. Guys were coming and going much more often than they had even just a few weeks ago and she wasn't completely sure why.
She got some quick breakfast before she went back to the bathroom and brushed her teeth. She swore as she got toothpaste on her shirt and she knew she'd be forced to go back into her room now; for some reason she still felt the need to look decent, even though nobody was going to be here today, besides David. She didn't care what she looked like in front of him because honestly, he had seen her at her worst and her best along with everywhere in between. He had been pretty understanding about everything that was going on even though she hadn't said a word to him and she had kept a majority of the guys a secret from him, knowing it would only make him worried, something the kid did not need. Sure they got along very well and considered each other family- David's family had just accepted her as one of their own- but she didn't want to make him worry about her, even though he always did. Just the other night she had woke up on the couch only to find him right there, beside her on the couch, keeping her company because apparently she had randomly started crying in her sleep. Neither were sure how she had gotten to the couch from upstairs.
She sighed when she heard the door bell ring and apparently the guy upstairs did too. He was halfway down the stairs when Maddie ran to the door, making sure she beat him to it,and opened it. She was pretty shocked to be looking up at a girl that David had over the other night. She racked her brain for a name before she got it. "Oh... Hey Honor, come on in. I'll go see if David's home." She had just made the assumption she was here for him because honestly, why in the world would she be here for her? She turned around and stopped when the man wrapped his arms around her and attempted to kiss her neck. She jerked away from his grasp and looked up at him. "Who are you? You know what, it doesn't matter, get the fuck out." She said, her voice was very harsh and cold as she pointed towards the door. She hadn't even given him time to say anything when she started walking away and towards David's room, when she was stopped by the man's voice, Call me later? he asked. She turned right around on her heels and her blue eyes locked on to his, her mood was fairly obvious. "Not going to happen, get the fuck out of my house..." She was furious and just turned back for David's room, completely uncaring of what Honor saw, interpreted, whatever, she didn't care. She opened up his bedroom door before calling out for him, nothing. She checked the bathroom, nothing. Fuck. She really didn't want to have to talk to Honor any more than she already had, she just wasn't having that great of a day so it wasn't anything personal. She walked out of his room and went back the living room to find the man gone, thank god. She looked over at Honor, a softer half smile than she expected graced her lips and she shook her head. "He's not here but he usually doesn't go far if you'd like to hang around? I don't mind." She looked a bit surprised by herself; did she really just say that and do that? Whatever, the moment quickly passed and she went back into the kitchen, she certainly wasn't the most welcoming person today. She put her sunglasses on immediately to disguise anything that might get passed her front and she sat in the kitchen window, pulling her legs up to her chest, arms wrapped around her legs, and head resting on her knee while looking out at the backyard.
OOC: She's such a bitch lol. She's just gotta feel comfortable around her for her to open up a little

this thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright people got their ways of coping oh, and i’ve got mine i drive your truck i roll every window down and i burn up every back road in this town i find a field, i tear it up 'til all the pain’s a cloud of dust yeah, sometimes i drive your truck;Honor rolled out of bed, almost stepping on her Australian Shepherd puppy. The puppy jumped on to the bed, wagging his tail like nothing was wrong. "Be careful, Blue!" Honor scolded, and grabbed him from the bed. The puppy squirmed in her arms, ready to run. She set him back down on the floor next to the other two dogs, and shook her head. He really needed to be trained better. He was housebroken and he knew how to sit for a treat, but that was about it. The Irish Setter, Molly, perked her head up as Honor started to move about the room. She was the oldest of the three dogs at age 5 years old. The dalmatian, Cooper, was in the middle at age 3. For one person, Honor had a lot of animals to deal with. But all in all, they kept her busy, so she wouldn't think about her parent's death.
Honor pulled out clothes and headed towards the bathroom. She didn't have any place to go in mind, other than she needed to go to the barn later. But the clothes in her arms weren't barn clothes. In fact, they were kind of dressy. Honor set her clothes down on the counter and turned on the hot water. She preferred piping hot showers to warm ones. There was no particular reason for it, it was just more comforting. She stepped under the water, and closed her eyes. Long hot showers were her favorite. Blue pushed open the bathroom door, and stuck his face into the shower. Honor felt a slight rush of cold air, so she opened her eyes and looked down. "Blue! Out!" she scolded, half-laughing. The puppy pushed his nose out of the shower and left the bathroom.
Once she was done with her shower, Honor got dressed in the clothes she had laid out. She grabbed a leash and hooked it to the puppy's collar. She wasn't even sure where she was going. She just knew she was going somewhere. Her day wasn't laid out for her and she was just going to go where ever she was led. Honor grabbed the keys to her truck and then placed the small puppy in the cab. She climbed into the front seat and started up the truck. Still unsure of where she was going, she began a familiar journey down the road. She left her modest home and ended up heading to a place she had only been once before. David's. She didn't know if he was even home, or if anyone was home. His roommate might be there, and their last encounter was quite awkward.
Honor climbed out of the truck and walked up to the front door with the puppy in her arms. She rang the doorbell and on the other side of the door was Maddie. The garage door had been shut, so there was no telling if David was home or not. It was worth a shot. She enjoyed spending time with the man, even though she had slept with him on the first day they met. It was out of the ordinary for her, but it seemed to work out well. Except that it was a couple days later and they hadn't talked to each other. Besides the couple of texts they had shot back and forth to each other. "Hey Maddie," the girl greeted, and walked in the door. "I have Blue, is that okay?" she asked, but then watched as Maddie kicked out a guy. David had mentioned that there was something up with her.
Honor stood in the room awkwardly holding the puppy as Maddie went looking for the man she had came to see. And when the other girl came back and announced David wasn't there, Honor nodded. "Sounds good," Honor said. So, who was that?" Honor blurted out before she could stop herself. She barely even knew this girl, and she had no business asking her questions about her love life. Although, David had mentioned that Maddie was going through the same thing that Honor was. Honor's way of coping was throwing herself into working with her animals. Maddie's way of coping must be sleeping with random strangers. Strange. tagged; Maddie words; 706. notes; hopefully, it's okay that she brought her puppy. and i think this song fits them perfectly. “Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
Maddie really hadn't been expecting to see Honor back here, but the way they did things were very different, so in a way, it didn't surprise her. She looked at the puppy and another smile graced her lips when Honor asked if it was okay. "Of course." Her voice was considerably different than the one she had just used with the man and she was starting to wonder if she was getting sick, or if she decided she needed to respect this girl due to the fact that.. well, she was a 'friend' of David's.
She wanted to smack herself for even asking if she wanted to hang around when she said she'd stay to wait for him. Her question caught her off guard a tad and she picked her head up off her knee to look over at her through the sunglasses, her body still coiled up in the window. She paused for a few moments, trying like hell to think of something to say, something to not make this awkward."I have no idea other than that he stuck around." She stopped herself before she could say anything else, yeah, that wasn't exactly what she was thinking of. She quickly looked back out the window and rested her head on her knee again, trying as hard as she could to stop any conversation that might arise from her comment. She slunk down in the window as her phone started going off on the counter, her eyes moving slightly to look at it, not really caring that someone was trying to call her. She stared at it as the sound became increasingly annoying, and only after twenty or so seconds of staring she gave in and stood up before walking over to get it. She looked at the number before hitting ignore, making the silence once again overcome the kitchen. No sooner than she set it down, it started going off again. She took a deep breath before she ignored it again, this time tossing the phone into the living room; it landed on the couch rather quietly.
She walked over to one of the cabinets and stood on the tip of her toes to reach a mug, but couldn't quite reach it. She groaned before shaking her head and speaking quietly. "David, you asshole." He always did things like this to her. Whether it was a glass that was just out of reach, or a pair of shoes slid just too far back in the closet, whatever it was, he always did it and found it entertaining.. Until one day he woke up to find all of his things in his bathroom glued to the walls. At that point, he had declared war and this sort of stuff was becoming increasingly common. "Feel free to make yourself at home. There's coffee, food... alcohol..." She smirked slightly at the last one before she reached for the mug again, this time succeeding. She poured herself some coffee and then moved back to the window where she curled up the exact same way she had before, except now her eyes were focused on Honor. She was trying very hard to figure her out, her eyes looking for any clue to give away anything; she found nothing, even when she didn't have to worry about getting caught due to the sunglasses. She gave up rather quickly, her not giving a fuck attitude returning rather abruptly and she looked back out the window before her mind started wandering. She looked back over at Honor before decided to at least act like she cared, after all, the woman was here and Maddie had nothing else going on, so why not pretend to care for a bit? What harm could come from that? "So, you and David dating now?" That's all she could muster up for the time being and it really kind of came across as bitchy even though she hadn't at all meant it to be that way. This was something that she did have some curiosity in. "I mean, you've got to have something special for him to do something like that; He's not at all that kind of guy. He will actually take care of you." Her voice had softened up a lot and she bit her lip, not wanting to say more, not yet anyway.

this thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright people got their ways of coping oh, and i’ve got mine i drive your truck i roll every window down and i burn up every back road in this town i find a field, i tear it up 'til all the pain’s a cloud of dust yeah, sometimes i drive your truck;David and Honor had quite the relationship, but they weren't official. She wasn't even sure if they ever would be. If he would have been home, this would be their second meeting. And hell, she had already slept with the guy. Unlike Maddie, she wasn't usually so easy, but David was different. He was gentle and loving, and he actually acted like he cared about her. She wanted to see him, badder than ever now that Maddie was the only one here. When she had met the girl before, she was lying naked in David's bed. And Maddie had joined them, even though it was only for a moment. Honor shook her head at the memories and set Blue down when Maddie said it was okay for him to be here. Blue dashed around the house, sniffing everything he could find.
Honestly, she didn't want to intrude on Maddie, but she thought they'd actually get along. The girl was a bit harsh, but everyone had their issues. And right now, their issues were the same. At least, part of their issues. Sure, the death of her parent's was awhile ago; but it still hurt. They died so suddenly in the accident and left everything to the two girls. But if they hadn't died, she wouldn't have ended up in Austin. She would have never met David. David. He was so amazing. So loving, caring and gentle. And she hadn't even known him for that long. Imagine what more could happen if they continued their relationship. But then again, there was always the possibility of him finding someone better. Better than a girl who was broken from the loss of her parents, and was just throwing herself into working with her animals.
Honor watched as Maddie reached for a cup. She really wasn't that tall. The girl was almost ready to help her, but she got the cup before Honor could say anything. She watched the puppy out of the corner of her eye, making sure he didn't get into any trouble. She wasn't sure if there were any dogs at the home, but so far she hadn't seen any. Usually there would be signs of a dog around the home, but these two roommates kept their house pretty clean. Honor slid into a seat at the kitchen table and waited. She really didn't want to bother Maddie. She seemed busy and distracted. Even if they could end up being good friends in the end. She barely knew anyone in this household, and was starting to regret her decision to come over. Although, she didn't really have much of a decision. She just followed her mind.
Maddie's question startled her. This girl didn't even know her lack of history with David. "No, we're not..." she said and allowed her gaze to shift away from Maddie. Dating David wasn't a topic she wanted to discuss. Even though Honor would probably jump at the chance if he asked. She shook the thought out of her head and looked at Maddie. "This might be a hard topic to discuss, but David said we're kind of going through the same thing," Honor brought up, and began to chew on her lip. She really didn't want to hurt the girl, but some things needed to be said. "If you don't want to talk about it though, it's okay," she said quietly. Blue padded over to her, and Honor swooped him up into her arms. He kissed her face, his claws digging at her chest. He was such a wonderful puppy. tagged; Maddie words; 594. notes; hopefully, it's okay that she brought her puppy. and i think this song fits them perfectly. “Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
She was slightly shocked when Honor said they weren't together. How could they not be? David hadn't shut up about her for at least a solid two days. Maddie watched as Honor looked away from her and she narrowed her eyes slightly before a slight smile slid across her face. "Well you should be." She said sweetly before finishing her coffee. She stood up and walked over to the sink before she rinsed the cup out slightly and put it in the dishwasher before she was completely stopped by what Honor said.
She was slightly pissed off about the whole thing. Honor had met her once, well, twice now and she was going to try to pull the 'you want to talk about it?' card. Oh no, no, no. David said Honor had a sister, so at least Honor had someone who she could talk to, who actually cared. Maddie had nobody. Her grandparents refused to talk to her because she had shown up completely drunk to their funeral and the rest of her family pretended she just didn't exist anymore. Awesome family, right? Fortunately for Honor, that wasn't just the pissed off button that she had managed to push, it was also one that would shut her down. She was honestly afraid to face whatever feelings she had so she had just kept them buried regardless of whether or not she wanted it that way.
Maddie went back to her spot in the window before she heard Honor speak again. She looked over at her quietly before she nodded and looked back out the window. "I'd really prefer not to." Her voice was soft and quiet, barely audible even as she adjusted slightly. At this point Honor could probably get it all out of her, with that button just being pushed, her self loath from the night before, and the fact that they could indeed relate, no matter how much Maddie tried not to admit it. She really just needed a friend. She needed someone to push her a little and not let her get away with everything she was doing. She needed someone to question what she was doing and why she was doing it. She needed someone patient and understanding.
She hadn't always been this way nor did she truly intend for it to continue, but she was trying to work through it on her own and that obviously wasn't working. Her eyes were settled on the large garage in the back, the one that looked like a warehouse and in a way, it kind of was; that's where Maddie kept all her cars except for her Maserati which happened to be her daily driver. There was a car in that garage that could ruin her day in a split second and she watched as it was being pushed out by two mechanics who were going through all of her cars and making sure everything was in tip-top shape. She leaned back against the window sill before quickly looking over at Honor, avoiding looking at the car and trying to think of something, anything to say.
She struggled for a second before speaking, her voice was surprisingly soft and sweet, like she actually cared a little. "Do you like him?" She wasn't sure why she was stuck on this topic but she knew David's view of it, probably more than he knew himself, and she kind of had to know her side. Maybe she could drop little hints here and there if they did like each other. She wanted nothing more than for David to be happy; he really deserved it with all the shit she put him through.
She stopped herself before saying anything else, remembering that Honor had cut that short. "Sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up again, he just, hasn't stopped talking about you." She had a soft smile to her lips and she took her sunglasses off and set them down beside her, her blue eyes looked back out the window, hoping, just hoping that Honor wouldn't push the parents thing.

this thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright people got their ways of coping oh, and i’ve got mine i drive your truck i roll every window down and i burn up every back road in this town i find a field, i tear it up 'til all the pain’s a cloud of dust yeah, sometimes i drive your truck;Sure, Honor had her sister, but she just wasn't the type of person to talk about her feelings. Isobel had just thrown herself into the business. She didn't care about dealing with her feelings. Eventually, it'd all come back around to her, but for now Honor was left to deal with her feelings on her own. All of her grandparents had passed on long before Honor was even born. Which may be why she clung to her parents so much. Her sister had never been the type of person to be all touchy-feely. It was hard on Honor, but she was learning to deal with it on her own. Okay, not deal. Maybe just live with the fact that her parents weren't there for her anymore. She wished Isobel would be a little more gentle about their parents death. But her sister just thought it was immature that Honor couldn't even set foot on the property of her childhood home.
She knew what it felt like to not want to talk about her parent's death. But she also knew that she regretted not talking about it more. Honor felt bad for doing what she was about to do, but she knew it needed to be done. "Maddie. I'm here. I know what you're going through. I didn't have anyone to talk to. My sister just took over the business, and didn't talk to me," she said with the hopes that if she started talking about her experiences, Maddie would talk about hers. "I regret not talking about my parents. To this day, I can't set foot in my childhood home, and it's been almost two years," Honor said and shook her head. There was no way she was ever going to be able to set foot back there. At least, not for a long time. "I know I don't really know you, but I wish there was someone I could have talked to that knew what I was going through."
And David was another issue all in itself. He had been on her mind for the last couple days. She had found herself singing randomly while she was doing usually mundane tasks. While she was brushing the horses, taking a shower, and even doing the dishes, she would find herself singing random love songs that popped in her head. She had never felt this way about a guy before. Honor had never experienced the feeling she had about David before. He was on her mind throughout the day and he was in her dreams when she slept. Hell, if he met any of her six horses, they'd probably recognize him because she talked about him so much. But unlike David, she didn't have anyone around her to tell him how much she liked him. Her animals weren't ever going to tell her secrets. Or even talk to her back when all she needed was a few comforting words.
And when Maddie mentioned that David had the same feeling about her, she couldn't help herself from smiling. But to answer her question was almost wrong. She was giving up one of her secrets she hadn't told another human being. But then again, she was also asking Maddie to talk about one of her hardest topics. "Yes, I really do," Honor said, smiling at a memory of David. She hadn't known him for long, but she felt like she had known him for a lifetime. She wanted to be his everything, and be with him. But she didn't want to force him into anything. "It's fine. And really?" she gossiped. Honor started to chew on her lip and rolled her shoulders back. God, she hadn't even been in the home for ten minutes and she was already discussing heavy topics. Blue licked her hand, and she scratched the puppy's neck softly. tagged; Maddie words; 639. notes; (: lyrics; i drive your truck by lee brice animals; Blue, Molly, & Coopertruck; 2008 Ford F150outfit; here.

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
Her blue eyes focused rather quickly on Honor when she had said her name but they quickly fell to the floor when she continued and Maddie found herself just staring at the floor, really wishing Honor would just stop. She didn't want to talk about this, not today, or at least not right now, but Honor seemed like she was going to go for it and there was nothing she could do to stop her. She quietly curled up again in the window although her focus was no longer out the window and surprisingly she was looking right at Honor. Her walls slowly started building up as she talked about her experiences and the first instinct Maddie had was to lash out and just walk away, but that seemed pretty impossible right now, besides she kind of enjoyed having the company despite the topic they were apparently going to cover. Between Honor saying that she was here and that she didn't really know her but wished she had had someone to talk to, her front was pretty much destroyed and some emotion could actually be seen in her eyes. It had been a while before she had been able to let her guard down, even around David she had to be guarded, but right now she felt like she had no need to. Oddly enough, she barely knew this woman.
Maddie clenched her jaw when she realized Honor probably expected her to say something but she wasn't sure what to say. Her eyes moved back to the floor as she searched for anything to say, something other than what was expected of her, but at this point she felt like she needed to give in. No lashing out, no being a bitch, just genuine feelings... This was really not Maddie's forte. She sighed before it all just kind of spilled out, "It's hard when everyone expects you to just move on like nothing happened, like they didn't matter and you're basically told to get over it, that you'll be fine and that things will be okay. But you're far from fine and things never get better, they never really seem to be anyways." Her stare was still on the ground even though she had opened up a little. "But thank you before being here and willing to talk. Not many people care and I've got to keep a lot away from David." Her eyes moved momentarily to Honor's, "Just don't get use to this kind of thing coming from me though." She said with a playful smile before her eyes went back to the floor.
"I regret not being able to fight the new management when they took over my fathers farm. They destroyed it in a matter of months and all I could do was watch. I also wish I could take back what I said to them right before they died, and I think that bothers me the most. Not to mention that they would still be alive if I hadn't said that and distracted them, everything in that sense is my fault, but I guess I'm not sure why I'm surprised by that because everything is always my fault." She was now staring back out the window, hiding any tears that may have just made a break for it, but she grew very quiet as she stared at the car as the guys popped the hood.
She looked back over to Honor shortly after clearing any tears that might have escaped. She smiled slightly when in fact, she did like him and Maddie smiled a little more knowing that it was pretty obvious that David and Honor were on the same pages in that tricky little book. She watched her smile shortly after she had said that she did and Maddie couldn't help but nod her head a little when she asked the question. "That boy cannot stop talking about you. He will come into my room in the morning and he will just talk about you, like he really honestly cannot focus on anything else. Don't tell him that I told you any of this though, but he really wants to call you, he's just been busy." She stopped for a moment and bit her lip, not sure if she should really say this, but if Honor was going to push her on the feelings front, Maddie was certainly going to push her on the David topic. It was kind of her way of getting back at her without actually being a bitch about it. "So, are you going to ask him out or am I going to have to continue to suffer? 'Cause I'm not sure I can handle a few more days of him talking the way he is. And I may not be much help with the whole feelings thing, but I can certainly help you with David." She said with a sly smile before watching as her dog Jagger walked into the kitchen and completely ignored Honor and the puppy. Jagger was a rescue, and a rather large one at that. He was about three and a half feet tall at the shoulder, about one hundred and forty-five pounds but he was also a mastiff rottweiler cross so he looked pretty scary despite being a massive cuddle bug.
She looked over at Jagger who was looking out the glass door at the men who were going over the car before he heard her cell phone going off. He hated the sound of her phone. She watched him run over to the couch and pick it up in his mouth before starting to trot away and she knew he was going to take it back upstairs and destroy it. "Unterstehen Sie sich!" She said in German and he stopped before looking at her. "Komm mal her!" He dropped his head before walking over to her with the phone. She grasped it in her hand but he wouldn't let go and he just stared at him. "Aus!" Her voice was very stern and Jagger quickly let it go before he looked to her again and laid down below the window, just kind of watching her. "This is Jagger. David's got a dog too but he goes to work with him."

this thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright people got their ways of coping oh, and i’ve got mine i drive your truck i roll every window down and i burn up every back road in this town i find a field, i tear it up 'til all the pain’s a cloud of dust yeah, sometimes i drive your truck; They should be? Honor couldn't even possibly imagine being with David. No wait. Yes she could. She would love the chance to be with David. He was on her mind everyday, all day. And when Maddie said that her and David should be dating, Honor couldn't help herself from smiling. "Thanks," she said, and looked at the girl. She knew more about the man she was falling for than Honor did. If she wanted to know more about him from another perspective, Maddie would be the person to tell her. But David wasn't the only reason she wanted to be friends with the other girl. They had something in common. And deep down, Maddie seemed like she could be a friendly person. She seemed like she needed someone that could help her out. And Honor was willing to be that person.
Honor knew what it felt like to lose her parents so suddenly. It was terrible and hard to deal with. Hell, her job only gave her five days off after her parent's death. And they weren't even paid. At first, Honor didn't think she'd be able to get Maddie to talk. But then Maddie began to spill. Honor just sat back and listened. She knew almost exactly what she was feeling. But Honor's last words to her parents had been 'I love you guys,' because that's what she always told them before they left to go anywhere. She had long moved out of their house before they had passed on. But the day they were in that awful car accident, her and her sister had both been at their house helping take care of the horses. They were on their way to dinner to celebrate how good their business was doing. And before they could even get there, their truck was hit by a drunk driver. What a glamorous way to go.
The phone call nearly killed her. Honor had been in the barn with her favorite mare. Serendipity was probably the best horse she could have been around when she got that call. When they told her the words, Honor flung her arms around the mare's neck, sobbing. Isobel had just received a similar call from a different police officer. She walked over to Seren's stall, and entered, her face extremely solemn. She never was one to express her feelings. Tears soaked the older girl's face, but the younger of the two had decided she had to be the rock. And she had been the rock since their parents died. It shouldn't be long until Isobel exploded. The memory startled Honor. Those things never went away. It got easier, but Honor was never able to get rid of the flashbacks she got every so often.
"It doesn't get any easier," Honor said, chewing on her lip. "I know, that isn't very comforting. But it's the truth. People don't understand you, because they don't know how it feels to lose someone close. And even if they do know, they don't. Because everyone's experience is different." Honor's gaze drifted away from Maddie. She knew how hard it was going to be for Maddie to face this. "My job gave me five days to grieve. Then they expected me to be back working, cheerful and put together. Turns out, I couldn't be that for them, which is why I'm a freelance horse trainer. I can work when I want," Honor said, looking back at Maddie. "I'll always be here for you," Honor said, and gave her a soft smile. "And I won't, I promise!" From what David had told her about Maddie, she usually wasn't this nice.
Honor didn't take anything to remember her parents by, other than her horses. And all of them had such broad personalities, it was hard for her to even think about her parents. But if she set foot back on their property, Honor would have terrible memories. Her parents were her everything, like she had thought many times. She had never had a meaningful relationship. Her relationship with her sister was horrid, and Honor didn't even have a close friend anymore. Her parents really had been her everything. They were her friends. They were her relationships. They were her siblings. Metaphorically, of course. And when they got into that accident, her entire life was pretty much destroyed. Now all she did was throw herself into working with her horses, and taking care of the foal. Honor didn't have a life. She never had one to begin with.
"Maddie, it's not your fault. You couldn't have even dreamed that your parents would lose their life when they did. How many fights did you have with them before that? And how many good times did you have with them?" Honor said, trying to comfort the girl. She didn't know the relationship Maddie had with her parents. "They would have gotten in that car, with or without you. They would have gotten distracted, with or without you. The universe doesn't make sense. And it was their time. Unfortunately, we don't always agree with the universe," Honor said, trying to be wise. But honestly, she really wasn't all that wise. All she wanted to do was comfort her. She wanted to be that person for Maddie that she never got to have. And she really needed a friend.
Honor smiled as the topic switched back to David. God, he was on her mind a lot. She didn't want to lose this boy. "Promise, won't tell," she swore, happy to know he wanted to be with her too. That had never happened before. She wasn't an innocent little girl, but she didn't know how it felt to be in a meaningful relationship. But when Maddie asked her if she was going to ask David out, Honor wasn't really that sure. She barely knew the man, but yet she crawled into his bed with no second thoughts. And he was so much younger than her. Did she really want to get all tangled up with a twenty year-old? But the next thought on her mind was yes. She really, honestly did. She looked at Maddie, and shrugged. "I don't know. I hardly know him. I don't know if you know this, but when you found us, it was the first day we met," Honor said.
"It isn't usually me to just crawl into bed with a guy I just met, and I don't think it's David's usual thing either. But, yeah. I really like him," Honor said, and watched a dog run into the room and completely ignore the puppy. That wasn't a usual thing for a dog, but it explains why she hadn't seen a dog around earlier. He just didn't seem to mind having random people or dogs around. "So, I guess you're gonna have to suffer for a bit longer," Honor laughed, jokingly. But then Maddie started speaking German, and Honor was confused. Her dog must only be able to listen to German commands. Blue ran towards Honor, hiding from the massive dog. He was used to dogs, but not dogs that big. When Maddie introduced him, Honor smiled. "The name fits," she said, and scooped Blue into her arms. tagged; Madeline Knight words; 1203. notes; so far, i think this is my longest post. “Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
Maddie really was a nice person, it just took some time for that to ever come through. She had to be very comfortable with whom she was talking to, and she had to know that what she said wouldn't be repeated because it had too many times before. She was one of those that would do small subtle things to be nice, and it was very rare to her to be fully open to things, kind of like she was right now. She didn't have many friends around here so it was hard for her to become comfortable, especially since they all seemed to stab her in the back some time down the road.
Maddie quietly listened to Honor as she spoke and she looked back to the floor with a light sigh. She knew it was never going to get any better, despite everyone encouraging her that it would, it never did, and it never would. She glanced over at Honor when she said she would always be here for her and that she promised she wouldn't get use to this, but in fact, she probably would. Maddie felt like she could trust her a little more than her previous friends, not that she'd call Honor her friends just yet, but when she did trust someone she could be very sweet, funny, and extremely outgoing. She could be a completely different person from what everyone thought they knew her as, but in truth, nobody ever really took the time to get to know her.
Maddie shook her head as Honor began to speak again, no, she had no clue when it came to that. Everything was her fault and she knew it. They fought on a daily basis, but that day had been particularly rough and Maddie had been super frustrated with more than one thing so when her parents confronted her about an issue, she flew off the handle. It was ALL her fault. "No, it really is my fault, everything is." She really didn't want to get into the details about it and kind of hoped Honor caught onto that without her actually having to say anything else. She really wanted to cry as she thought about all the things she said, the look on their faces when she told them to 'fuck off' because 'she didn't need them and would be fine if they were gone...' Yeah, well she wasn't, she was far from it. She sighed again, a couple tears running down her cheeks as she stared out the window. She had kind of meant what she said at the time but now she regretted every word, every breath she used during that hour long fight. She'd take it all back without a doubt and if she hadn't had said what she did, they wouldn't have left. They wouldn't have died and she knew it. She blamed herself for everything, and it really was her fault for her family ignoring her. Showing up completely drunk to your parents funeral isn't exactly respectful.
She curled herself up even tighter and rested her head on her knees again. She kind of wanted a hug but she'd never admit it to herself. Honestly, she needed someone to just wrap their arms around her and sit with her, just being there, not even talking, just being. She heard Honor promise that she wouldn't tell David what she had said, but she couldn't even look over at her due to the tears. Maddie laughed a little when Honor said it was their first time meeting and they had jumped into bed together. Yeah, of course she knew that, but she also knew her and David really had to have some kind of connection for him to do that. "Yeah, I kind of figured, but there's really nothing to be ashamed of about that." She listened again as she said that she didn't usually do this and Maddie had already know that too; Honor wasn't at all like Maddie in that way, not that Maddie really wanted to be that way either. "To be completely honest, you are the only one that David has ever done that with. He's not at all a normal guy, I guess you could say. But, I'm glad you like him, he really deserves someone like you."
She thought about David for a minute before she decided to say more. "He really is a great guy and he's incredibly mature for his age. I honestly can't say enough good things about him. But don't be afraid of jumping into a relationship even though you just met. You don't always have to be friends first, and you don't have to have a physical relationship right away.. or even at all honestly. Just do yourself a favor and forget about age differences and how long ago you just met, it never matters. Never be afraid of what could happen, just think about what could be." She said softly before continuing to look out the window. Jagger looked up at Maddie before he stood up and set his massive head on her lap, his tail wagging and making his entire body move side to side. He sighed before he turned to look at Honor and the puppy and then quietly looked over at Honor before laying down once more, turning over on his belly and dozing off near Maddie.

this thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright people got their ways of coping oh, and i’ve got mine i drive your truck i roll every window down and i burn up every back road in this town i find a field, i tear it up 'til all the pain’s a cloud of dust yeah, sometimes i drive your truck; If everything went the way it did in her dreams, David would already be hers. But reality didn't work that way. And she hardly knew the guy. Since the day she met him, all she could think about was him. He was in her mind day and night. God, he was distracting. If her animals could talk, everyone would know all of her deep secrets. She told them everything. Mostly because she really didn't have a friend to talk to. At least, a human friend. It wasn't that she was a terrible person; she usually got along with pretty much everyone. But with all of the animals, she didn't have time to get out and meet people. Her foal kept her occupied at least every two hours, if not more often. Sometimes the stable hands would keep up with the feedings, so Honor was able to sleep or actually get other things done, but it was mainly her doing everything.
Sure, she had met people at the barn. In fact, that was how she had met David. Honor had been socializing her foal with her mare, and he had came to let his gelding into the pastures. He was such a sweet man, and he had a playful gelding that got along with Annie quite nicely. Seren didn't care too much for the gelding, but she didn't care too much for geldings anyway. The mare never had. Things had heated up fast between David and Honor at barn, but they decided they shouldn't just throw themselves into a hay stack. Which is how they ended up back at David's place where Maddie had caught them in bed. Not that it really mattered. Maddie wasn't jealous or anything, but Honor had been embarrassed. She was the type of girl guys liked to bring home to their parents. Not one that climbed into bed with random strangers.
Honor stare at Maddie with a soft, sad look. There was no possible way it could be her fault. She couldn't have predicted the future. Everything happened for a reason. But with the look that Maddie had, she knew there wouldn't be any reasoning with her. She wouldn't be able to convince her any different. At least, not for the time being. Maybe if they ever got any closer as friends, she would be able to get Maddie to talk more. But for right now, she had to let it go. Today didn't need to get any more depressing. Honor kind of wanted to go hug the girl, but she felt they hadn't reached that point in their relationship. And she really didn't want to get punched. Maddie seemed like the type of person to punch someone if they got too close for her liking.
Honor regretted mentioning how she and David had jumped into bed. When she arrived, Maddie had been kicking her fling out the door. Of course she didn't think of it as a bad thing. She did it herself, although Honor didn't really know how often. But with Honor and David, she really wasn't ashamed. He was such a nice guy. She didn't regret one moment she had with David. From what Maddie was telling her, he didn't either. David had told her he didn't usually jump into bed with random strangers, but she didn't know she was the only one. Honor looked at Maddie with a soft smile. "You don't have to convince me about David," she said. "I just don't think I would ever have the guts to ask David out. With him, I can forget everything. I don't know how to explain it. But I just don't know," Honor mused. tagged; Madeline Knight words; 612. notes; shorter than my last one! “Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
Maddie was relieved that Honor wasn't going to push this and it allowed her to relax a little. She felt like she didn't need to keep that wall up, to be ready to defend herself if need be, but she also wasn't going to keep talking, at least, not about her parents. She'd talk about anything else all day long. Heck, she'd talk about anything besides that topic, even if it came down to the rather personal stuff, she didn't care at this point. And then the unexpected happened and she was sure she had a look of shock on her face.
She spoke again, despite her strong want to stop. What the hell was going on? "I told them that I didn't need them, to 'fuck off' because 'I could do everything on my own, and that I'd be better off'. But, I can honestly say that I was dead wrong, horribly, horribly wrong." Her actions had her completely confused. What was she doing? She wanted to stop talking about them, right? "I said that all because I had a rough ride on the track with a horse that my father insisted was ready to race, but I strongly had disagreed. I completely lost it over something so stupid, something that he had been right about, but I was just too stubborn to see... That horse won his face three days after their funeral, won it by six lengths with no competition. And I had said he wasn't ready." She sighed before reaching down and petting Jagger who had woken up when he heard her voice and felt her touch. "They wouldn't have left if I hadn't blown up the way I did, they would have went back to the barns if I hadn't said a word and it would have been me in that car, and I should have been in it. They should be here, not me." She said before standing up, Jagger close on her heels as she made her way into the living room and laying down on the couch.
She stared at the ceiling without crying. She had nothing left to cry anymore and she wasn't sure why, but there was absolutely nothing left. Jagger laid down on the floor and looked up at her, his tail thumping against the floor as he happily wagged it. She reached over and remembered what Honor had said about David.
Being shy seemed a distant thing for Maddie even though she had been shy right up until a couple months ago. Believe it or not, she had been voted shyest girl in her graduating class. Too bad they couldn't have predicted that she'd also turn out to be the biggest bitch in the class too. "You do have the guts, I think you're just afraid of something. I mean, how many people do you actually think would have the guts to come in here and talk to me? Not many... But that feeling, that's the beginning of love dear." She smiled before she put her hands behind her head and completely stretched out on the couch, not that she took up that much room. She thought for moment before smiling even wider. "What would you do if someone else asked him out first?" She was trying to get Honor a little motivated to just do it, and the best way she knew how was jealousy. It could be a beautiful thing at times.

this thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright people got their ways of coping oh, and i’ve got mine i drive your truck i roll every window down and i burn up every back road in this town i find a field, i tear it up 'til all the pain’s a cloud of dust yeah, sometimes i drive your truck;Honor listened as Maddie spilled her guts to her. She hadn't pushed her to say anything, but sometimes words just fell out and all you could do was listen. Maddie really did feel guilty about her parent's death. Honor had never actually fought with her parents. She always got along with them so well, so she couldn't relate to what the other girl was talking about, but she could empathize. If her last words to her parents had been in a fight, Honor would feel guilty about their death as well. Even if it wasn't her fault. She didn't believe it was Maddie's fault either. Death just happened and there wasn't a way to change that. No, Honor wasn't very religious, but she believed you can't change the pattern of life. They were meant to die that day, no matter how sad the reality was. Even if they weren't in a car accident, they might have had a stroke or something random like that.
But Honor didn't exactly know how to explain that to Maddie. The young girl was upset by her parent's death, and she didn't to seem to have much reasoning to her. Honor just gave her an empathetic look, and whispered, "I'm sorry," even though it was probably the last thing the girl wanted to hear. Those two words were hell on someone who just lost someone close. Everyone said it, as if it was their fault the person or people had died. I'm sorry for your loss. Are you okay? I'm so sorry. The worst three things someone could say to a person, but also the most popular things someone would say at a funeral. Honor knew she never wanted to hear those words again. She had heard them a thousand times, and yet here she was, saying them to a girl who was almost in the same situation as herself.
Honor got up from her seat at the kitchen table, and picked up Blue. He had been laying by her feet, almost asleep. He scrambled up, his nails catching her shirt as she carried him into the living room. She didn't want to have to talk to Maddie from a different room. Honor found a chair and settled herself into it. It wasn't usual for her to get comfortable in a stranger's house, but Honor also wasn't shy. She was known for being bold and outspoken. Words tended to just fall out of her mouth before she could stop them. It always happened to her. Some people found it rude and quite annoying, but she couldn't help herself. Honor set Blue down on the floor again, and he curled up into a ball at her feet. He was a tired puppy from bugging the older two dogs this morning.
Honor gave a small smile to Maddie when she told her it was the beginning of love. She shook her head in disagreement, but knew that Maddie was right. She was falling in love with David, or at least what her mind remembered him as. But Honor didn't think her and David would work out anyways. He was so young compared to her. Nine years was a big difference in her mind. And then Maddie's next question hit her. Honor had no idea how to respond to that. She wouldn't do anything if someone else asked him out first. If he wanted to be with her, he would. If he didn't, then he'd be with the other girl. "I wouldn't do anything, to be honest," Honor said, the fire dying inside of her. Did she mean that David had another girl he was interested in? Honor bite her lip and leaned down to scratch Blue. tagged; Madeline Knight words; 619. notes; lyrics; i drive your truck by lee brice animals; Blue, Molly, & Coopertruck; 2008 Ford F150outfit; here.

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean
Maddie listened as she heard Honor walk into the living room and her eyes glanced at her momentarily as she sat down in a chair. She hated to say it, but she hadn't really wanted to be alone even though she had been the one to leave the room. She felt kind of vulnerable right now and she kind of just wanted some comfort. Maybe it was because everything was still raw and she had never taken time to even think about how she felt. She had never taken time to even try to process any of her feelings, she always just pushed them away and tried to ignore them despite the fact that they were surfacing and biting her in the ass like a group of piranhas. She stared at the ceiling before just barely hearing Honor whisper that she was sorry and she just tried to ignore it because it never meant anything; until now. Why all of the sudden did hearing that mean anything? She kind of figured that it was different coming from someone who knew almost everything she was going through, that it was different because she was suddenly understood.
She looked over at Honor before her blue eyes locked onto hers as she spoke. She was slightly confused but more so shocked. If Honor was falling for David, why wouldn't she do anything about it? Especially if someone else had asked him out or expressed interest? This was extremely foreign to Maddie. Never once did Maddie not ask a guy out that she didn't like, but she figured maybe that was part of her problem. She could always get a guy if she really wanted to, but it was never for anything long term. She looked over at Honor who seemed a little off about what she had said and Maddie immediately regretted it. Oddly enough she didn't want to be a bitch towards Honor, which was honestly surprising. Honor had somehow gotten her to spill a little bit about her past trauma and she didn't want to get back at her? Not even a little? She must be getting soft, or maybe she saw that Honor really could be her friend. She could be trusted and valued in Maddie's mind now, which should be viewed as very rare. "I'm not saying that he's interested in someone else," she stopped herself before looking back at the ceiling. Shit, she shouldn't have said anything. "Sorry."
