[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #b28abe solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i had sworn to myself that When Raquel had decided to put Deli in foal, the fact loomed in front of her that she was now one competition horse less. It was all good and well just to use Fernie, but the stallion was only going to take her so far, and she missed competing both horses. So, instead of going to her father, she had started scouring the classifieds for horses in Addison that were for sale. That was how she had come across Bourne and everything about him seemed so familiar. She had seen him being worked a few times as well, and he belonged to the owner of Crossfire.
That morning she had arranged to see Beth and discuss the sale. It wasn’t as if Raquel was selling the horse soon either, and he was being kept at Crossfire, so if she needed help with Bourne, it was available. For a few minutes she fussed over Fernie, grinning at his arrogant and aloof manner that he presented for the first few minutes, but then he realised that he was getting treats, and he was like putty in her hands. When all the mints were done, Raquel wandered down the barn aisle, coming across Bourne’s stall. He was an impressive stallion, large and made an impression.
Raquel observed the stallion and everything about him seemed to speak to her, make her realise that the more she looked at the stallion, the more she wanted to buy him. For sixty-five thousand dollars, it had been enough to make her choke slightly, but she had the money, and once she rode the horse, she was sure that she would be able to call Bourne hers. Jax would have a heart attack once she told him, but it was her money, not his, and she could do with it what she wants.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #8372b4 solid 10px; width: 399px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]you're the only one breaking me down like this Now that she was living on the property that Crossfire was on, instead of pretty much unofficially occupying Danny’s old house… and now that they were married… it definitely made her life easier. She could sleep in, even if only for a short while longer, since she didn’t have to get up and drive all the way out to the barn, she just had to get up, get changed and walk down the path from the house to the barn, and it wasn’t far to go when she needed to go back to the house to get something as well. And now she and Danny were married and everything seemed to be going perfectly still.
She had gone up to the house to have a cup of tea, usually she would just make it in the lounge but it was nice to get away from the barn and all of the interruptions for a few minutes, and admittedly she might have been hiding from Victoria a little. The younger woman was a great rider, she would admit that, but her attitude tended to give her headaches at the best of times, especially when she got into her complaining mode. But she had to head back down there anyway, seeing as though someone was meant to be looking at Bourne soon, so she needed to get back.
It didn’t take her long to walk back down to the barn, heading towards the stallion barn where Bourne was kept, and where she had put him for now since Raquel was coming to see him, and the last thing she had wanted to do was spend some time catching him in the paddocks, although at least he was fairly good when it came to it. The other woman was already there when she arrived, standing outside the grey stallion’s stall, looking at him, and she fixed a friendly smile on her face as she approached.
“I see you’re getting acquainted with him already,” she said, reaching out to scratch the Irish Sport Horse’s cheek as he came to the front of the stall on her approach. She’d miss him if she did end up selling him, he was a good horse. Danny would be glad that she was downsizing, although he’d probably prefer it if it were one of her more high strung horses that was going instead.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #b28abe solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i had sworn to myself that Raquel watched the grey with a curious interest. This stallion would be a welcome addition to her small group, but she also knew that Jax would have a shit fit about her spending 65k on a stallion that she hadn't even ridden yet. Raquel on the other hand knew the grey stallion had talent, and she had done her research on him before even talking to Beth. Looking up when she heard the footsteps, she smiled when she heard Beth. Yeah, I am. He looks like a great horse, she said, smiling. It seemed that she was going to have enough horses to go around, and she had a lot of hopes pinned down on the foal that would be born with the Deli/Kid crossing.
That left Bourne and Fernie for competition, and then she would be bringing on the mare that Jax bought for her, along with starting to back Jack. As a two year old, she wasn't going to be riding him just yet, but she was going to start to introduce the bridle and a saddle cloth with surcingle. The palomino was something else to behold, his mellow nature definitely making him a pleasure to work with.
Scratching the stallion's cheek, she looked over at Beth. Mind if I take him out? Just so that I can get a feel for him, she asked with a smile. She honestly wanted to know how he felt under saddle before she made the monetary commitment to him.

i chased your love around a figure [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 0b0b0b; width: 399px; padding: 5 5 5 5px; border-bottom: 12px solid #8372b4; border-top: 12px solid #8372b4;]eight, i need you more than i can take “He is a great horse. I think he’s managed to make it into my favourite rides so far,” Beth answered, giving the blonde another smile. He was a good horse, she had been somewhat hesitant about selling him but she did need to sell him on, with running the barn on her own now she did need to cut back, and she knew that it would make Danny feel a little better. He had no problems with her riding but she knew he wished she did a little less of it, and on calmer horses. And now she had more lessons to teach and so much more in general to do… it made things easier.
She nodded when Raquel asked if she could take Bourne out, understanding, of course, because she would want to do the same thing herself. Plus she didn’t like selling a horse to someone if she hadn’t seen them ride them, of course she had seen her riding at shows so she didn’t doubt that she could ride, but it was more of a question of whether she could handle Bourne or not, of course. “Of course, I don’t mind at all, I’d prefer it, actually. I’ll just go get his gear for you so we can get started,” she replied, waiting for a response before turning and heading towards the tack room to grab his grooming kit and tack, managing to balance all of it in her arms on the way out, she had gotten kind of used to doing so. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #b28abe solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i had sworn to myself that Raquel nodded and then clipped the soft cotton lead rope to the stallion's leather halter, leading him to the cross ties and clipping him in. He was a fine specimen of a horse, well conformed and well looked after. His coat shone with good health, and muscles rippled underneath his skin. Raquel was eager to be riding him, even possibly buying him. She smiled when she saw Elisabeth appear from the tack room, going to help her carry the stallion's things. Once she had everything put down, she gave Bourne a quick brush through, not that he needed it, and then saddled him up quickly.
Raquel quickly went to Fergie's stall and found her helmet and gloves. The weather was getting slightly better, but it was still cold out to ride. Even in the indoor arena there was a nip in the air. Going back to Bourne, she petted the stallion's neck. Is there anything I should know more about before I get on? she asked Beth as she fixed her helmet and gloves, undoing the cross ties and holding onto Bourne's reins as he danced eagerly in the barn, knowing that he was about to be ridden.
She could that the stallion had power in his body, and it would be like riding a firecracker most likely, but she doubted that she would have an easy ride that day. To be honest, the more wilful, the better. Once Beth had responded, she adjusted her stirrups, checked the girth and led Bourne to the indoor arena, forcing him to stand while he chomped at the bit, and she mounted quickly. At 16.3 hands, he wasn't very big, but he was stocky, so felt wider. Raquel asked for an active walk, slowly getting used to the stallion.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]Beth let her get Bourne ready mostly by herself, it was better to give her more time to get used to the stallion, and for him to get used to her, especially if today went well and she did end up buying the horse. Admittedly she felt a lot more comfortable with someone from Crossfire already buying him, she didn’t doubt that Raquel would take good care of him but it would be nice to check up on him every now and again and see his progress. Yes, horses may have been her business so maybe she shouldn’t get so attached but it didn’t hurt to want to see them in a good place after they were sold on.
She moved forward to pet Bourne when the other woman walked off to get her own gear, to keep him settled while he waited there for her to return, she could already see him getting slightly edgy now that he knew he was getting out of the barn, something that wasn’t unusual for him, he got like that most days even if he had been ridden the day before even. Hearing the sound of returning footsteps after a short while, she stepped back from the stallion, turning her attention back to the blonde.
She shook her head, giving her another smile. “Nothing major… he’s excitable but he listens most of the time, although thanks to his size it makes him more of a handful than his temperament really makes him out to be,” she answered, following her to the indoor when the pair started heading in that direction to start riding, leaning against the gate to watch after Raquel had led Bourne inside. - - - - - - - - - - and i'll spend the rest of my life with you by my side, if strong things are vulnerable, and the risk is uncomfortable, then i'll be the weakest, just to have you, and i'll spend the rest of my life with you by my side, this is what i want, just to have you, this is what i want, and i'll spend the rest of my life with you |
