Since he had discovered that his nephew was back in town, Malachi had been pleased to have some company. Not that Jay was forced to socialise with him, but the pair had spent some time catching up over the last few weeks.
Malachi played with the cell phone between his hands, smiling slightly as he thought about what he wanted to do. He really wanted to call Amelia, and he was surprised that he hadn’t already. He had already done the asking part, but he really wanted to organise a coffee date or something. He really wanted to get to know her better, mainly because she intrigued him and it was something that he hadn’t really experienced before. A long time ago, but he had forgotten what it felt like. He could mentally kick himself for waiting so long, but he always lived by ‘better late than never.’
Building up enough courage, he dialled her number, looking relieved when he heard the dialling tone. At least he was on the right track, so step one was a success. Step two would him having to ask her out, and third would hopefully having her say yes. He liked being organised, well, mostly in his mind, because his work station wasn’t the neatest. He tried his best, he really did, but apparently it wasn’t good enough. Hi Amelia. It’s Malachi, he greeted, his nerves already trying to get the best of him, I wanted to know if you were willing to join me for a cup of coffee some time? he asked, knowing that if he didn’t, his nerves would really get the best of him.
He knew it wasn’t the smoothest of proposals for what he thought was a date, and he regretted that he hadn’t even asked her how she was, but it was done and he couldn’t go back in time.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #949ec2 solid 10px; width: 399px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]and when all security fails will you be there to help me through Today had been one of those blissful half days at work… not that she didn’t like her job, of course, but it was nice to be able to finish early. Then again, going home early to an empty house was really not the same as coming home to a house full of kids, or at least the prospect of them coming home after school, at least… there was the dog of course but Shayla’s German Shepherd puppy wasn’t the same as having a real live human being to talk to. She managed though… she knew that they would move out one day, but she had been expecting it to happen when they got to college… but these programmes they were in were good for them so she wasn’t complaining too much about it.
Finding something to occupy herself with hadn’t been easy… the house was pretty much clean already, since there weren’t three teenage children running around to make a mess of the place so it stayed like that for a lot longer, so cleaning the house was out of the question. So she had decided to catch up on some reading, curled up on the couch with the puppy reading her book when her phone rang… the caller ID popping up on her phone’s display unfamiliar to her.
“Hello?” she said as she hit the answer button, hearing a familiar voice on the other end of the line in response. She felt a small smile cross her face when he asked if she wanted to go get that coffee he had asked her about when they had run into each other in the local grocery store the other day. “Sure, I’d like that… when would be the best time for you?” she replied, pushing the dog away as she jumped up from where she had been laying, deciding that now was the perfect time to try and lick Amelia on the face.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #274a5e solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]Malachi felt like he was very much out of practice with the whole dating thing, and he that he was going to make a mess out of this thing as well, until he remembered that it was only for coffee and that he shouldn't worry so much. Coffee wasn't going to lead to marriage the next day. It was merely something to get to know Amelia better, see how much they had in common. He relaxed when she agreed to join him, a smile playing on his lips. So far everything was going well.
Would it be okay to meet in an hour? he answered, not sure if she was busy or not. He would be at the school for a few minutes longer, but there was always the weekend even if they didn't do it today. Actually Malachi didn't mind when he saw her, as long as he saw her. The few minutes that he had spent talking to her in Safeway had been nice, and though it was odd for him to admit it, he actually liked her. It was just extremely weird that he was going for coffee with students that had attended his school.
He doodled on a scrap piece of paper as he waited for her answer. Malachi knew that most people his age were settled down with a family, but he just hadn't found that yet. It was just something he couldn't explain to people, but he had been somewhat happy in his life time. No responsibilities had been enjoyable, and the work kept him happy while he was at the office. It wasn't a big deal to him if he was married or not.

Especially when she considered how long it had actually been since she had dated anyone, she didn’t want to add a whole bunch of nerves on top of the baggage she knew that she already came with… not that she regretted having her children at all, no, definitely not, but she knew it was a little hard for others to take in… at least, him being a teacher and all, it might be easier for him to handle, although of course she wasn’t going to dump all of it on him straight away either.
She glanced at the clock on the wall to check the time when he asked if it was okay to meet in an hour, looking back at the pup sitting on her, rubbing her between the ears as she answered. “Yeah, an hour works for me,” she answered, feeling a smile spread across her face even though she knew that he couldn’t see it.
“I’ll see you then,” she said, waiting for him to respond before saying her goodbyes and hanging up the phone, although she didn’t get up just yet, Addison wasn’t exactly a large town after all and it wouldn’t take long to get to the coffee shop, and she still had an hour to actually get there.

There was more than enough time to get his desk organised and pack up for the day. Though he had a pile of work to get through, he didn't feel like working at home that evening. It would cause some over time the following day, but even though he loved to work, his life didn't revolve around it as much as it used to.
Picking up his briefcase, he put in a few files, shut down his computer and left the office, going out to his car. The horses would be fine until he went to go check on them later, so he wasn't concerned. Driving to Vintage Brew, he still wondered what the hell possessed him to move to a small town in Texas of all places. There was only so much sanity that he could preserve, but he had settled in pretty well. The small town life suited him, at least Malachi thought so.
Finding a parking spot in front of the coffee shop, he went inside, taking a seat in one of the window booths. There was something calming in Addison. There wasn't the same rush to do things like there was in the bigger towns. People seemed more relaxed, were friendlier and he had made a new start in the small town.

is happiness a little more like knocking [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 0b0b0b; width: 399px; padding: 5 5 5 5px; border-bottom: 12px solid #949ec2; border-top: 12px solid #949ec2;]on your door, and you just let it in? When the time rolled around to leave to go meet Malachi at the coffee shop, Amelia left, not until after she had made sure that the puppy couldn’t get into anything that he shouldn’t, because the last thing she wanted to do was come home to a semi destroyed house. She still had to go feed Murphy but he could wait, he wasn’t accustomed to being fed at a particular time during the day so it wasn’t like he would be kicking down his stall door in search of his dinner any time soon. Once everything was set, she left, glad that Addison wasn’t a particularly large town so it didn’t take her all that long to actually reach her destination.
Finding an available parking space a little down the street from the shop she parked her car, not rushing to Vintage Brew, she was about right on time anyway so it probably wouldn’t hurt to give him a bit more time just in case he was late or something. But it didn’t seem like she had to worry about that anyway, spotting him already sitting inside the shop next to the window as she approached, giving him a smile through the glass before she entered the building.
“Hey,” she said, smiling again as she approached the table that he was sitting at. onzy | 223 | outfit | *rolls* |
