but don't think i don't think about it
don't think i don't have regrets
don't think it don't get to me
between the work and the hurt and the whiskey
don't think i don't wonder 'bout
could've been should've been all worked out
i know what i felt and i know what i said
but don't think i don't think about it
"Emily, love," Sebastian called to his three year-old daughter. "We've got to go. We're going to be late," he said, and opened up her bedroom door. The brunette sat at the edge of her bed with her arms folded across her chest. "I don't wanna go. I wanna stay," Emily whined. The husky laying on her bed picked up her head and laid it in Emily's lap. "S-see? Maya wants me to stay," the little girl stuttered, and wrapped her arms around the dog's red and white neck. Sebastian walked over to his daughter and sat down on the bed next to her. "Darling, it's okay. There will be lots of food and candy and music at the party. And we can stop and see Moon before we go to the party," Sebastian negotiated and took his daughter's arms from the dog. She nodded and wrapped her arms around his neck instead. Sebastian lifted her up and carried her to the truck waiting outside.
After putting Emily in her car seat, Sebastian headed over to the barn. He wasn't going to let his daughter down. She was spoiled, even though he was a single father. He hadn't met too many people since they had moved, and the few that he had met he hadn't ran into since. It was actually quite sad. Emily's mother had only tried to call a few times, but it was all when Sebastian had to be at the tack and feed shop he owned. And it was hard as hell to explain to a three year-old why Mommy doesn't want to talk to her. It was one reason they moved away from their hometown. It was much simpler telling her that she was asleep because of the time zones or something. He pulled the truck into the driveway of CrossFire and parked it outside the barn. "Moon?" Emily asked from the backseat. Sebastian nodded at her. "Yes, Moon. We're going to visit her and then go to the party, okay? he asked, and Emily nodded.
He unbuckled Emily from her car seat and they headed into the barn. Moon poked her head out of her stall and whinnied at the pair. She was glad to see them. Sebastian swooped Emily up into his arms and greeted the mare. "Moon!" Emily exclaimed, leaning forward towards the pony. She rubbed the mare's forehead and planted a kiss between her eyes. The pony tossed her head up towards Emily in a playful manner and the girl screamed with giggles. She loved horses and having a pony of her own made the girl extremely happy. "Ready to go to the party?" Sebastian asked, and Emily patted the pony's head again before nodding yes. He reached into his pocket and pulled a treat out and offered it to Emily. She grabbed it and fed it to the pony, who took it graciously.
People were everywhere at the party, mostly in small clusters talking to each other. There was a buffet of food and lights strung up so everyone could see in the dark. Sebastian headed over to a table with Emily on his hip. He set her down in a chair and then sat down in the chair next to her. So far, he hadn't recognized hardly anyone. Maybe a few people he had seen come and go at the tack shop, or the person who had a stall next to his horses, but nobody he had really talked to before. Emily swung her feet around, acting like she was bored. The music was good and the party was already starting out to be really good. Maybe Sebastian would finally be able to meet someone he could talk to, but it was hard with his daughter around. She didn't want a new mom.
