Camryn sped off from the shop. He had a date. Really? And how he had come by it surprised him even more. Generally Cam was used to girl begging him to take them on a date, yet this one seemed quite opposite, as though he had begged aspen. Did her beg her? All of this ran through his head as he got to his house and fixed his hair. His outfit was fine though. Damn he though you look good he winked at himself in the mirror before he got back in his car and sped off.
He got to the store and bought some flowers. he wasn't one to normally buy flowers for a girl, especially on there first date, but he thought he had been kind of rude to her, and all girls like roses right? Even tomboys? He shook his head. What the hell was he doing, and why on earth was he so damn nervous? He never got nervous when he was going on a date with a girl. Course he never really had asked them? Maybe thats why he was so nervous this time around.
Camryn left the store and headed back for the shop, blasting his music as he nervously drove. He parked outside and sighed before he got out and headed to the door. He reached for the handle before stopping. He turned to walk away having second thoughts but he quickly turned around again, holding the flowers as he entered the store.

At six, Aspen headed home and took a shower. Now, she never really dressed for anything besides comfort or interest, hence why her wardrobe was mostly old, worn shirts and jeans she found comfortable. She’d never been on a date with a boy that had obviously had girls that were technically “better” than her from the aspects that make a girl who goes on dates. The dates she had gone on had always been with boys who were nerdy, awkward engineers like herself.
What could she talk to with Camryn about, anyways? Cars, she supposed, but she guessed that his interest and knowledge didn’t extend as far into firmware engineering as hers did. Getting dressed was kind of complicated, because she’d never really put much thought into outfits unless she was going to a concert, in which case what she wore for work fitted, because it was mostly band shirts and no one there minded a few grease stains, in her experience.
She’d looked through her closet and found some things that would work – with the help of one of Camden’s magazines that had those big sections of fashion and stuff. She theorized that Camden probably knew more about being a girl than she did. Why did he have these girly magazines, anyways? She’d decided that some clean black jeans, a purple shirt, and her purple docs would work. It looked simple, but it took more effort than Aspen had ever put into dressing herself – She was surprised at the fact that she actually minded what Camryn thought of her.
She got to the store a few minutes before seven, and stayed behind the counter in the waiting room, resisting the urge to go into the garage and do something. Might as well remain clean for now. The bell that rings when someone enters sounded, and her head snapped up. Camryn walked in, and she spotted flowers in his hands. She tilted her head. She never understood the convention of giving a girl flowers. They died quickly and she couldn’t take them apart to play with. Of course, Camryn didn’t know her as well as the guys she’d been on dates with did. If any of them got her anything, which they seldom did, it was normally a really cheap electronic thing that was fun for her to disassemble and examine before seeing how she could put it back together to glitch it out, or if she could combine the parts with something else and have a new purpose for it. Still, flowers were a pleasant surprise. She still had the idea in her head that Camryn didn’t actually give a shit about her and just wanted to get her on a date to repair his ego, but flowers were still a nice gesture.
”Oh, hey.” She said, wondering what to say. She found herself reminded why the biggest nerds were the only ones she’d ever dated. It was partially because it was intimidating, the fact that Camryn was damned attractive, pretty good at talking to people, and could probably have a nice pick of girls. When a guy had his choice of girls, she was never even considered twice. Not unless he didn’t know her personality, at least. ”Uh, thanks?” It wasn’t supposed to come out as a question as her eyes travelled to the flowers again, and she unintentionally winced at her failure at being grateful. Quickly, she adopted that flirty smile that the girls at the high school she’d gone to had always used when talking to guys. She’d perfected it a while ago, because sometimes she simply wasn’t taken seriously by a man and flirting was the only way to get through to him. ”They’re nice.” She replaced her earlier, ruder comment about the dead plant genitals that were flowers. That was the main reason she didn’t get them. It was basically murder of flowers and other flowers to come, but why? They all smelled the same to her, too.

Cam noticed her face as she looked at the flowers. He sighed looking at them as well. "Yeah I know, flowers are lame, but i did not know what else to get you" he said forcing a small smile to the girl standing before him. Why was he trying so hard to make a good impression on her. Was it the fact that she actually was something he had to work at? A challenge? Or was it just simply because he needed someone to like him, for the boy wasn't used to not having at least one or two girls who liked him, and at this moment he had no one that even showed any interest. But Aspen, she was uninterested period, and that made Camryn want her even more.
He handed her the flowers and nodded before looking at her. She looked simple but pretty. She was not dressed up super fancy and neither was he, course he didn't even change, but Camryn knew that no matter what he wore he would look good. Yes he was that cocky. But behind the tough bad boy there was a sweet boy, hiding away in a dark corner, but part of him shone through by buying the girl flowers, which he had never done for anyone before.
Camryn held the door open for her before opening the passenger side door to his red corvette, closing the door as soon as she got in. He climbed into the car turning the radio back on, he slipped in his Crown The Empire CD and turned it down lowly so that in case Aspen felt like talking it would not be interrupting her. Camryn felt his palms sweating against the steering wheel as he drove. He reached over and turned on the air conditioner hoping to cool himself off.
He tried so hard not to look over and just stare at her beautiful face. He let out a sort of huff as he kept driving. Stopping at a red light the boy tapped his fingers on the steering wheel impatiently. Hurry up he thought to himself. It turned green and he sped up and quickly turned into the driveway of the steakhouse as he sat there he looked over at her. "Is this ok? i already made reservations" he said with another forced smile.

”No, it's nice, really. I guess I just don't exactly get flowers a lot.” In fact, she'd never been given flowers, at least not that she could remember. She'd been more of a boy than Camden since they were young children, and there were a few adults who tried to lure her to the girly side, but for the most part everyone just learned to treat her like a boy, and nobody gave a boy flowers.
Why was she actually a bit nervous about this date, anyways? Sure, she didn't go on many, and he was attractive, but looks weren't what she normally noticed. Though it was noticeably standing out to her that not only was he attractive, but he knew cars. However, he was obviously a 'bad boy' and the polar opposite of any one she'd formerly considered. Of course, she was certain that he only got her flowers and stuff in an effort to repair his own pride by making her like him.
It kind of confused her, when he held the door open for her. No one had done that before, she was normally the one to open doors for others, or everyone just opened doors for themselves. Why was a boy opening a door for a woman considered gentlemanly? Is it harder for a girl to open a door, or what? Still, she walked through the door and nodded her head in thanks: a lot of the time she just communicated in little gestures rather than words, it was easier.
Now, opening the door was on thing. The car door was another. She shot him a quizzical look when he pulled it open for her, and she stepped in and sat, but couldn't help the slight amount of laughter that came with it. Oh gosh, this was all so unlike her: going out with a boy who was opening doors and buying her flowers and trying to treat her like a lady and stuff. Actually, this was quite humorous. Crown the Empire came on, and she grinned, looking at him. She should've guessed, that he had good taste in music. ”Nice.” She said in approval of his musical choice, tapping her leg in time with the song.
On the drive, she didn't talk a lot, but to her it wasn't awkward. Silence was rarely awkward to her,she was used to it and preferred it to talking. It tended to be awkward to others, though. She found herself lost in the music as she often did, snapped out of her trance with his words, looking up. ”Yeah, it's okay, of course.” She said, actually in awe. Now, no guy had ever taken her on a legitimate date. She wasn't sure what she'd been expecting, but, reservations at this place and everything? It was new to her, and she just about didn't feel deserving of it. What had she done to get herself into this situation? It wasn't horrible, it was just an unusual type of new.

Camryn smiled when she said nice. Finally someone who knew and appriciated good music when they heard it. He sang along lowly trying to make sure she didn't hear him. He couldn't help but look over at her every once in awhile on the drive there.
After they got there and he asked his question and she approved he smiled and got out of the car. He headed over to her door and opened it slowly for her to get out. He wasnt really one to ever open doors for people but he quickly rushed to the front door and opened it for her with a smile.
When the got in he told the lady at the front his name and she led them to a room towards the back of the restaurant. It was away from most of the people, country music played lowly around them and there was a nice light setting in the room. He smiled again and sat down and began to look at his menu.
His hands were shaking ever so slightly. He was so nervous and he had no idea, he never got nervous. Why did aspen bring out the beast in him? Why did she make all his walls fall down. He hated it, yet at the same time he loved it, maybe that why she was affecting him so dang much.
He looked over the menu one last time before setting it down when the lady came by and he ordered. He looked over at Aspen waiting to see what she would order. Camryn just ordered a medium rare steak with mashed potatoes and that was it, along with a sweet tea.

Since she trained herself to pick up on little things so that she could mostly react well to people’s emotions despite not picking them up right away, she noticed his hands shaking. She had no idea why, she wasn’t exactly going to be able to put together the fact that he may actually like her. As far as she was concerned, this was all just a big show so that he could prove that he was better than her. Might as well enjoy the ride, she figured.
She reached over, placing her hand on top of his to hold it still. It wasn’t exactly meant to be flirty, Aspen had no clue how to flirt. She did gather that she actually kind of wanted some kind of contact with him though, as strange as it was. Normally she avoided generally touching anybody.
It now occurred to her that perhaps she actually liked Camryn. She’d managed to ignore every time she had in the past, but she hadn’t exactly been on a date with the person, now had she? This was something of a terrifying thought. She’d seen Camden have several girlfriends, and none of that ever ended well. She’d figured she’d just always dodge having to have boyfriends. There were the few nerdy guys she’d dated in high school, but that hardly counted because she was just appeasing those boy’s odd need to label the fact that they had her and no one else could.
She didn’t see why anyone would want her though, especially Camryn. Not in an insecure way, but in the sense that what is the point in defensively “possessing” somebody? Of course, this was a hypocritical thought as well because, now, for example, she was considering the fact that Camryn was flirtatious and attractive. Other girls had been with him, other girls would like him. That wasn’t a particularly good thing in her mind.
When the waitress came, Aspen was still sort of undecided, so she decided to just order the same thing as Camryn, eyes wide in an awkward discomfort. She’d never been good at ordering in restaurants, she’d constantly get distracted from the menu and never come to a positive conclusion. And a lot of the time she’d word something wrong or tune off in her own world and not even notice the waitress was there or something like that.
Now she realized that in her cloud of thoughts, her hand was still over Camryn’s. She’d just wanted him to stop shaking, why ever he might be. As though she’d been shocked, she drew her hand back and blushed, looking away and placing her hand in her lap below the table. Oops.
