[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]Nick had been at Crossfire for a while now, helping them set up for the party that they were holding tonight. He’d just happened to stop by to look for Scott and Danny had pretty much cornered him, requesting himself, and Tyler apparently, to help set up, which he had agreed to… not just because Danny was kind of terrifying, but because he wouldn’t have minded helping anyway, even if it wasn’t the male that had asked him to help. It had meant some shifting around of how people were going to get to the party, since he had been going anyway, but that hadn’t been any trouble really.
Thankfully it hadn’t taken too much time or effort to set everything up… they had kept everything simple, for the most part, it wasn’t like it was meant to be anything fancy, just a casual gathering, so it had mostly been setting up lights, tables and sorting out the music – that last bit he had taken care of himself, seeing as though he knew his way around a sound system with his eyes closed – and they finished setting up in plenty of time before the party goers started showing up at the barn.
So now all that was left to do was wait for the girls to get there. He hadn’t spoken in depth with Tyler since they had both been there, he still wasn’t quite sure what to make of the fact her and Parker were apparently starting up again, or whatever it was they were doing, but he guessed he would have the rest of the night to figure that out. People had started to arrive already and the place was slowly starting to fill up, and he headed over to the drinks table to get himself one while he waited, just to give him something to do for now. - - - - - - - - - - it doesn't matter when we get back to doing what we do, 'cause right now could last forever just as long as i'm with you, you're just a daydream away, i wouldn't know what to say if i had you, and i'll keep you a daydream away, just watch from a safe place, so i never have to lose |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #6d2b2c solid 10px; width: 450px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i've been waking all my life tagged Mae/Sammie/Ish words663 musemerh notesmerh. bad. blah. creditstemplate by irish! Five years ago, Tyler had envisioned himself in a lot of places in the future. College, for one, on a full-ride sports scholarship playing football. Maybe already graduated, maybe moved on to the pros. He'd envisioned himself with a life beyond Texas, a life full of wishes and dreams coming true. He had a star studded path ahead of him, of that much he was sure. One place he had not envisioned himself was working at a barn in Addison during the day, and bagging groceries by night. He hadn't envisioned himself looking after a five year old and an 80 year old who often had the mental capacity equal to that of the five year old. He hadn't envisioned himself hardly able to function in a public setting, having anxiety attacks over the stupidest things like seeing the same person on three different aisles in the store and feeling as though he was being followed, or not being able to go into small rooms or crowded spaces. He had envisioned his life a lot of ways, but this was not one of them.
Back in his high school days, he'd been the life of the party... the popular guy who always had women hanging off of him. He was that guy who everybody knew, who was always at every social event, had no problem being the center of attention. He was loud and obnoxious, stubborn and delinquent, and completely full of himself. Now, things had changed. He kept mostly to himself, never instigated conversation, often avoided people, and stayed away from social events. He was quiet and reserved, never set a foot out of line, and would much rather the attention be on someone else. Tyler was not the same foolish kid who had entered into boot camp all those years ago. That kid had died along with his spirit in some warehouse in what might as well have been the desert.
So as he went about setting up, he pretty well avoided everyone. He just sort of did as he was told without saying anything to anyone unless he absolutely had to. He did tend to sort of try to avoid Nick as much as possible. He had nothing against him, but Tyler was well aware that Nick didn't exactly trust him, and he couldn't blame him for that. The way Tyler had treated Parker before they broke up after his grandfather had died was not something he was proud of. He'd been a complete ass about everything and as far as he was concerned, Parker should be giving him the cold shoulder even more than Nick was. He deserved it after the way he had treated her. He'd had no remorse about it at first but as time went on, the guilt had really eaten into him.
He should have known better than to think that Parker would even consider treating him the way he deserved to be treated, but even so he was surprised by how willing she had been to go to things like this with him. They weren't really dating per-se but it felt like perhaps what could be the beginning of re-kindling an old flame. Going to this party with her felt almost a little like a double date, since they were evidently going to meet up with Nick and his friend. As he waited for Parker, he stayed off to the side away from the people who were starting to gather. Being in a crowd of strangers was not an ideal place for him, so he decided to avoid mingling at least until Parker was there with him. Having at least one person there who he knew and could trust would hopefully help, but even so he wasn't entirely sure he would be able to make it through this entire thing. He hoped he would, but he wasn't counting on it.

I'M HERE TONIGHT - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:0px; color: #6FB0D5; text-align:justify]Plans for the barn party had been made in advance and after figuring out that both Nick and Tyler had to help set up, driving arrangements had been set up. Cherise would come over to Parker’s and they would get ready together. From there they would take Cherise’s car to the barn. It was nice hanging out with a girl for once. Although Parker did have Kennedy, but she was different. Parker had known her since kindergarten and had melded into the group that was. So getting to know Nick’s…well she wasn’t exactly sure what they were but getting to know Nick’s whatever better was good. Especially if Nick actually planned to date the girl soon. The idea hurt a little, but Parker was with Tyler now so she had something to distract herself. Well she wasn’t exactly with Tyler. They had been hanging out more and had gone on a handful of dates since running into each other, but nothing was set in stone. It was probably better to take it slow anyways what with their history and none of their group trusting him anymore because of the way he treated Parker the last time around.
Parker never really took long to get ready so she found herself sitting on the counter chatting to Cherise waiting to leave. They left at a time that would get them there at the beginning of the party, which Parker liked. She would rather be there before others so she could see who was coming in and such. So when they walked into the barn and noticed that it was not exactly empty but by no means overflowing with people it made her smile. She could easily spot Tyler who was only a few feet from Nick. Of course they weren’t together. They both were only doing this because she begged them. She knew they didn’t like each other, but they were her two main men and she did want to get to know Cherise better.
She pulled Cherise in the direction of Tyler, figuring it would be easier to pull him along than it would be Nick. She smiled as she approached Tyler and grabbed his hand. ‘You are not allowed to be anti-social sir. Come on.’ And with that she was now dragging both Tyler and Cherise in the direction of Nick. Only someone who had been intently watching would have noticed the small change in Parker’s smile as they reached Nick. She let go of Cherise and slightly leaned against Tyler, smiling at Nick. ‘Hey Nicky.’ It was weird seeing Nick with Cherise. Sure Parker had seen Nick with other girls, but it was different this time. That was all in high school and she would be lying if she had said nothing had changed since high school. It definitely had and well it made seeing Nick with Cherise, no matter how nice she was, a little hard. She just would have to stay by Tyler all night and let that take her mind off of thing. Her vacation had gotten cut short, with an influx of stupid people the hospital was once more bustling and she was of course needed most defiantly. She rolled over on her stomach and buried herself under the covers as she sighed in her sleep, she knew she would have to get up soon, she had to shower before Parker got here, but her bed was so wonderful and cozy right now, maybe she should just cancel? But she couldn’t do that to Nick or Parker. With a groan she sleepily sat up and rubbed her eyes, leaning over a looking at her phone, well good news is she had gotten some sleep bad news it didn’t feel like it. Groaning she rubbed her face and checked her phone before being satisfied that they had caught on not to call her at all tonight. She threw back the covers and grabbed the baby monitor before heading into the bathroom and turning the shower on. She hopped in when it was nice and warm and showered as quick as she wanted. Once out she walked into her master closet and got as far as putting on a pale pink high lo dress and taking out her lighter color cowboy boots, white clutch and white sweater and setting them near her bed. She let down her hair again and dried it. She laid out her makeup but went and flopped down on the bed blowing out air as she did so and closed her eyes. She sat up and sighed when she heard the soft coos coming from Anna and she stood and went across the hall putting a smile on her face as she picked her up, changed her and then brought her to her room, she needed to finish getting ready and head to Parkers, it didn’t take long for her to put the finishing touches on and carefully take Anna downstairs, she sent Parker a text saying she was on her way and was soon there and chatting away with Parker until they left for the party. Upon arriving she glanced across the crowd until she landed on Nick, giving him a little smile before she felt herself being dragged along by Parker, and then Parker was dragging her and who she assumed was Tyler and she gave him a sheepish smile before she was finally let go of when they reached Nick and she went to stand by him, hey she spoke softly, before scanning the people that were coming in, she could at least comfortably say she had seen half of them at the hospital with in the last night. She looked up at Nick and gave him a smile before looking at Parker who was leaning against Tyler, she was still slightly confused as to what Parker and Tyler were and what had happened between them and why things seemed so awkward. But she wasn’t going to dwell on the whole thing, she looked between all of them not wanting to be the first to start the conversation. [/style] |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]He was almost starting to think that maybe he would have to try and go and make conversation with Tyler after all, after he had gotten his drink, standing there waiting to see if the girls arrived soon, before he spotted Parker’s familiar blonde head bobbing through the crowd, along with Cherise walking alongside her. Watching them also go over to Tyler first, Parker grabbing the other male and dragging him over to where Nick was standing, seeing her say something to him but obviously not catching what it was, although knowing Parker he probably already had an idea of what it was, flashing them all a smile as they approached, glad that they had all finally managed to get here.
“Hey Parker,” he answered, grinning at his friend when she approached him and greeted him, keeping the relaxed expression on his face when she leaned a little against Tyler as they came to a stop, although some part of his mind didn’t like it. But if she was happy, he was happy, and he just wanted her to be happy. And he just didn’t want Tyler to go and do exactly what he had done to her when they were kids again.
He turned to look at Cherise when she came over to stand next to him, smiling again. “Hey,” he answered, before shifting his attention back to the entire group, bouncing slightly on the balls of his feet, he’d never been good at standing still for long periods of time without doing anything and he had been doing that enough since they had finished helping set up the party. “Anyone want a drink?” he asked after a moment of silence, not really sure what else to say at this point, but it seemed like a good way to start getting everybody to relax.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #6d2b2c solid 10px; width: 450px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]i've been waking all my life tagged Mae/Sammie/Ish wordsidk musemerh notesmerh. bad. blah. creditstemplate by irish! Triggers. They were everywhere, and the most ordinary things could be terrifying to Tyler. A person with a kerchief over their nose and mouth while moving hay, small windowless places, temperatures about 80 degrees, a sudden movement, a loud noise, crowds, even the slightest pain... just about anything could cause his anxiety level to rise. He had once reveled in being the center of attention, but now he would like to be anything but. He had let his attention drift off to the people milling about when all of a sudden Parker with who he assumed was Nick's friend, was in front of him. He hardly registered what she was saying before she grabbed his hand and started to pull him towards Nick. A trigger.
Parker was completely unaware of the things that could happen in Tyler's brain at any given second, and even though he knew she didn't do it on purpose, and he knew that she was not someone who would ever wish him harm, it was still a trigger. He couldn't explain it, there was no way for him to tell someone why he reacted the way that he did... but his immediate instinct was to pull his hand out of her grasp, and it took all of his will power to not do so. Unfortunately, forcing himself to just "deal with things" didn't work the way it used to anymore. Now as he forced himself to let her drag him along towards Nick, the level of anxiety in him grew. It had nothing to do with Nick, it had nothing to do with Parker, and it had nothing to do with Cherise. It had everything to do with being lead somewhere suddenly and with hardly any time to process what was going on or where he was going.
Then they stopped and Nick was there, saying things, mostly directed towards Parker, but Tyler didn't hear, his heart was pounding too loudly. Everything around him was muffled because of it. He had all of his focus on trying to calm himself down. He nearly jumped a little when Parker leaned against him, unable to stop himself from breathing more heavily than was natural for someone not doing something physically strenuous. He was sure everyone could hear his heart racing, but really none of what was going on him looked all that out of the ordinary. He looked perfectly normal, though his silence was a bit unusual. That was the problem with Tyler, he kept hidden all of the physical signs of what he'd been through, from never going shirtless with people around, to letting his hair grow a little longer, to the bandanna he kept around his wrist, all of it was kept hidden, which gave no one any clues to the fact that he had more than his fair share of issues.
The next thing he knew, Parker was bouncing along beside Nick, dragging Tyler with her as she went further into the people that had gathered, weaving through the crowd, deeper in to where it was more crowded, the people more densely spaced, the air warmer, the room in which to move smaller. As best he could tell they were headed for the refreshments stable, but that didn't matter. There were too many people, too much noise, not enough room. Before he even really realized what was happening the panic hit him. He felt like he couldn't breathe or move. In reality, there weren't that many people, and the spaces between them weren't that close, but in his mind they were too tightly bunched, there were too many of them, and he couldn't take it anymore. He realized he had only been there for a few minutes, but already it was too much.
He stopped suddenly, and since Parker was still holding his hand, she stopped too. For a moment he didn't say anything, his focus darting from person to person around him before back to Parker. "I'm sorry, Parker." He said, pulling his hand out of her grasp, "I can't do this." Without really giving her a chance to respond or to give an explanation, he turned and headed back the way they'd come, weaving through the people, his mind frantically seeking open spaces between the people for ideal escape routes. It only took a few moments to break out of the crowd, but to him it felt like an eternity. He was visibly shaking, his breathing heavy and uneven. He felt like he might pass out, but he forced himself to keep walking some distance away from the party location before stopping to attempt to settle his nerves, calm his heart rate, and steady his breathing... a task that was far easier said than done. He felt horribly guilty for just leaving Parker like that, and he was sure he hadn't earned any points with anyone there, but he knew that if he stayed worse things would happen... and on top of it all, he knew that Parker would much rather have been there with Nick than with him. It wasn't hard for him to tell that she was only "with" him as a second choice to Nick. Nick was what she really wanted, and Tyler was just the next best thing. As much as he didn't want to believe it, he knew it was true and he just couldn't deny it.

She knew that he had a few issues since coming back from the war, but she didn’t know that it was this bad. She watched him leave and was almost about to follow him when she stopped herself. She wasn’t exactly sure why she stopped herself, but she did. The party continues for a while longer until Cherise got a call from her babysitter saying that she needed to go and soon she was gone too.
So it was just her and Nick. Not that she had a problem with that. Nick was her best friend and she always felt comfortable with him. She smiled at Nick as she moved to bump her hip against his. ‘So I guess that just leaves us.’ The noise of the party surrounded Parker’s words and she felt as if they were being washed away. She wanted to talk to Nick though. Figure out where his head was with being with Cherise since the last time they had talked about her. So without a word she took his hand and lead him out of the barn and towards the stables. She hadn’t seen Jimmy that day anyways so she figured she could kill two birds with one stone.
They finally reached Jimmy’s stall and Parker leaned over petting the horse with a smile before turning to Nick. ‘So you and Cherise…’ she asked, leaning back and forth on her heels. ‘Was this like a test to see if you should date her? She talked a lot about you when we were getting ready.’ It was interesting how much Cherise had babbled on about Nick. She acted as if her and Nick had known each other forever when in reality she knew nothing about Parker’s best friend. He was surprised at Tyler’s sudden departure, but he didn’t question it too much… he would freely admit, and had admitted to Parker, that he hadn’t been thrilled to hear that she and her ex were kind of seeing each other again, and if he didn’t want to stay, then so be it, he wasn’t going to stop him from leaving, leaving that up to Parker to do if she wanted, or to leave with him if that was what she wanted. But, to his slight surprise, she stayed. And then eventually Cherise ended up having to go as well, leaving just himself and Parker to themselves.
“I guess it does… not that I’m complaining about that,” he told her, grinning down at the blonde. It was just back down to the pair of them, like it seemed to do on so many occasions. It was how he liked it though, he could be with just her forever and it wouldn’t matter. He couldn’t imagine life without Parker in it. So of course he wasn’t going to complain that it was just the two of them.
He let her take his hand a few moments later, walking with her to the stable, walking the familiar path to Jimmy’s stall, letting his thoughts wander as they walked. When they reached the stall, he stopped, leaning against the wall between Jimmy’s door and the stall of the horse beside him, crossing his arms along his chest as he watched Parker, a small smile on his face. He glanced down at his feet when she started talking, contemplating for a few moments, before looking back up to her face. “I don’t know. I guess I was just trying to give it a bit more of a chance in case I was wrong and to see if I was trying to rush out of it too quickly,” he answered. “But I think I’ve figured a few things out anyway. She’s nice but… she’s not the one I want.”

She really did like that it was only them. They were the dynamic duo. Nick and Parker. Parker and Nick. Their names always seemed paired together. They had been inseparable since they were little. She wouldn’t have it any other way either. ‘Good because if you were complaining I’d have to have Jimmy bite your pinky finger off.’ She laughed a bit, looking back up at him loving the small twinkle in his eye that always appeared there when he smiled at her. It was one of the things she loved about him. She didn’t know if that twinkle appeared for anyone else, but she liked to believe it was special just to her.
She leaned back over, petting Jimmy as she listened to him speak. She turned to him as he mentioned that Cherise wasn’t the one that he wanted. She was intrigued. She stopped bouncing and placed all of her attention on the male opposite of her. ‘Oh? And who is it that you want Mr. Barclay? Some exotic super model? Or maybe that girl who works at the Sugar Shack.’ Sure she was joking around, but it was mostly just to hide that she wished that she was that girl. She wished that she was the girl that Nick wanted to be with, but she knew that that wouldn’t happen. And no matter who he chose she would always just slap a smile on her face and be happy for him as long as he was happy.
