[/div] Riding up and down Broadway on my old stud Leroy
A new place meant a new start, right? Not that he had a bad life at all back home. He had just been busy with his family and his horses. Aaron pulled his truck around to the back of the barn. He wasn't ready to put the six Paints in their stalls just yet. They needed to get out and roam, although in separate pastures. The mares would be fine together, but throw two stallions into the mix and you've got a big problem. With a new place, Aaron wasn't ready for any foals. The big diesel truck rumbled to a stop and the man stepped out of it. His horses pawed at the sides of the trailers, impatient and ready to roam their new home. "Settle down," he called to the horses. Almost immediately all of them quit banging around in the trailer. His voice was familiar to them and it soothed them easily.
Aaron swung the trailer door open to reveal a chestnut overo stallion. Behind him was an empty spot and then four mares and a stallion after another empty spot. The boys had to have a little more room than the mares, because they liked to thrash themselves around when they can. "Hey there, Troy," Aaron cooed to the stallion. Troy flicked his ears back, but other than that didn't seem to acknowledge the man. Aaron ignored the brute and untied him from the trailer. He led the stallion to an empty pasture and set him free to roam. There wouldn't be getting him back for awhile. Troy reared up in the pasture, enjoying the space he was given. The stallion then rolled into the dirt, getting as dirty as possible. It would be a task for Aaron to clean up later.
The mares went into a pasture together fairly easily. There was a little bit of trouble with Belle, but the other three were pretty easy-going. They began to graze almost immediately when they entered the pasture. Finally, Aaron turned back to the trailer where yet another chestnut overo Paint stood. The stallion pawed the trailer, upset he had been in the trailer longer than the other horses. Whiskey wasn't a bad horse. He was pretty easy-going for a stallion. If you didn't pay attention, you could mistake the brute for a gelding. Whiskey was by far Aaron's favorite. He led him to his own pasture next to the mares and shut the gate behind him. Whiskey took off galloping the length of his pasture, making sure he knew his boundaries. When the stag did his full round, he began to graze calmly.
Aaron leaned back on the hood of his truck and watched the six horses. He hadn't even really settled into his new home yet. He dropped off his luggage and put the two dogs out back in their new pen with some food and water. Aaron wanted to explore this new town. Maybe later he'd take one of the horses out for a ride. The southern boy already was falling in love with Texas. They had hot girls, good cold beer and horses. The three best things in Aaron's life. He had moved to Addison for the hell of it and also to get away from his parents. He wanted to prove to them that he could live on his own. The man yawned and fixed the hat on the top of his head.

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean Maddie seemed to be having a fairly good day. Her morning run had been excellent, David had made her a pretty awesome breakfast, and she didn't have a hang over; that immediately qualified as a good day. The sun was shinning, it was spring, the weather was warm so what more could she ask for? Oh yeah, to get a little time to spend with Joker who had been on the back burner for a couple days. The horse didn't seem to mind though seeing that he was getting plenty of attention from people in the barn and he had found a play buddy. She was slightly surprised when someone told her that he played with the neighboring gelding out in pasture. Apparently they would play over and through the fence, graze next to each other, and even race up and down the fence line with the occasional playful nip.
She shut off her Maserati and slipped her ear buds in and started playing Pandora through her iPhone. She got out of the car, put on her sunglasses and was completely consumed in her music as she shut the door and headed into the barn. There weren't many people here today which she thought was odd but she hardly paid any attention to that as she danced down the isle. She passed horses and a couple people, saying nothing, barely acknowledging them. It wasn't on purpose but this kind of thing generally happened when she was 'in her zone.' She stopped at Joker's stall and sighed slightly, it was empty. She didn't want to disturb him if he was next to his friend, but she wanted to see him so she continued down the isle until she was out of the barn and headed to the pastures.
On her way she had passed a large trailer but hadn't picked up on anything other than that, her mind was all too focused on her music. She went to Joker's gate and saw him standing near his buddy and they were grazing. She attempted to sneak away but it was fairly obvious that she had been spotted when the black stud colt came running up to the gate and gave a soft nicker. Maddie spun right around and kissed his nose as he extended it out to her. "So you've got a buddy now I see." She opened the gate and slipped inside before Joker started searching her for treats. He found a couple before quickly loosing interest. "You want to go in?" She asked, music still playing. She knew she had her answer when Joker just flat out walked back to the other horse and she just smiled. She was glad that he finally had a friend.
She slipped back out of the gate and started walking backwards towards the barn, her eyes focused on the horses as they nipped playfully at each other over the fence. She swore she had been walking backwards in a straight line towards the barn, but apparently she wasn't as spot on as she had thought. She turned around and BAM! There was a guy about 2 feet away, leaning against his truck which was attached to the trailer that she'd remotely noted earlier. She blushed slightly as she slipped her head phones out., knowing she would have just completely walked into either him or the truck had she not turned around when she did. "Whoa, hey. Sorry about that." She said casually, her blue eyes hidden as she looked him over quickly. Phew, was it hot outside or was it just him? She looked over her shoulder at Joker before taking a step back and starting to walk back to the barn but stopped and glanced at the man for a moment, "Nice truck by the way, too bad it's a Ford." She said with a playful tone and slight laugh before she turned back to the barn.

Once all of their horses had released their energy, they pretty much just started to graze. They had been in the trailer off and on since Georgia, stopping every so often to get out and eat. They went to different family member's homes across the country to let the horses out and play. A couple of mares had gone into heat on the way over from being in such close quarters with the stallions, which made it more difficult to trailer the horses. Once the mares started going into heat, it drove the boys even crazier. It was a difficult trip, but they had made it with not a ton of issues. Being the breeder he was, Aaron contemplated on breeding the mares who went into heat. But being new, he figured it would be better not to. He needed to get settled into the town first.
Aaron hadn't even checked out the barn yet. He had no idea on what the stalls looked like or if they were even ready for his horses. But even so, he could leave his horses in the pasture for awhile. It was a nice spring day and the pastures looked great. The grass was green and perfect for the horses to graze on. There were other horses in the pastures around his, but he had hardly noticed them. His horses were the only ones on his mind. That is, until a beautiful girl crossed his path to visit her horse. She hadn't even given him a look. Perhaps she didn't notice him. Not a lot of people just watched their horses in the pasture. And to top it all off, she had headphones on, so that blocked off her hearing. Aaron wasn't usually one to block off his senses with headphones or such things. If he was going to play his music, the whole world was going to hear it.
He watched her and her horse. She was fond of him, it was apparent by her actions. Unlike his horses, her horse was playing with a nearby horse. His ignored everyone but each other. Growing up together, the horses all had a fairly strong bond. The stallions had been studs at his last home, but none of the mares had been bred yet. That would be something Aaron would do once he got settled it. His Paints all had interesting coats that people craved for. Aaron's gaze had left the girl and back to his horses. Two of the mares chased each other around playfully, while the other two stood off in their separate corners grazing. Aaron gave a sly smile, glad they were settling in well to their surroundings. He wasn't sure what he would do if they didn't. It wasn't like he was willing to just pack up and leave yet again.
Almost as soon as Aaron's gaze left the girl, it went right back to her. But this time, she was standing almost two feet away from him. And she didn't even know it. He smiled, waiting for her to notice him. "Hey, it's all good," he said, his southern accent flowing across his lips. She was easy on the eyes and Texas was extremely promising for him. But then she made a comment about his truck. Aaron's truck was his baby. He cleaned the thing almost daily. He shook his head at the girl. "Well, I'd say thanks, but I'm not sure how to take that," Aaron said, teasingly. "Runs better than any Dodge though." This girl was already amazing enough to please him, and he didn't even know her name. She had a horse, (unfortunately, not a Paint), she knew something about trucks, and she was pretty. "Name's Aaron," he said, and extending his hand.

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean She really needed to work on being less distracted. It was always a bad idea for her to listen to music while she did something, because well, usually she'd find herself in situations like this. Not that this one was particularly bad at all. She should have noticed the man standing in front of his truck since it was hooked up to the trailer that she had noticed. Who in their right mind notices a trailer and not the truck? Or the guy standing in front of the truck? Hell, she hadn't even noticed the Paints out in the field. You know, the multicolored horses surrounded by a sea of green grass... She was always so easily distracted, but in her defense she had been walking with a purpose; to see Joker.
When she had turned around she had almost had a heart attack, mostly due to the shear surprise of having a man there. A good looking man. Who had a southern accent... Oh this couldn't end well. She smiled when he shook his head at her comment and she couldn't help but to laugh a little. "Well it really wasn't meant to be a compliment, but I guess I could let it slide seeing that I almost walked into you," She said with the same teasing tone. Here came the flirtations, right on cue. The poor girl always seemed to go on autopilot when cute guys were around and it always seemed to lead to things her parents would most definitely not be proud of.
His next comment made her stop again and turn to face him, an eyebrow raised and a smirk across her lips. "Well that's only because everything runs better than a Dodge," Maddie said with a rather playful tone. Okay, this wasn't autopilot. She would have said something much different if it had been. Interesting. She took a couple steps towards him when he introduced himself and extended his hand. So his name was Aaron, he drove a Ford, and he was good looking. She could get over the Ford thing eventually. "It's nice to meet you, Aaron. I'm Maddie." Her voice was sweet, surprisingly enough, and her hand shake had been fairly firm. She usually shook hands with men who wanted a good strong jockey for their horses so a strong handshake was usually you're first chance to make an impression as stupid as that was.
She glanced over at the six Paints in the pastures and then looked over at Joker who was still playing with his friend before she looked back to Aaron. "So I'm assuming you've just gotten here and that those are your Paints," She said and looked back over at them. They were pretty but she had never really understood the desire to have a horse that was multicolored. She simply wanted a horse(s) that was streamline, fast, agile, and intelligent and didn't care what color or colors they were. Sure, she had this thing for darker horses that had some chrome but that didn't make her like them any more than a chestnut with no white what so ever. She honestly didn't care what a horse looked like as long as it had a personality and a strong will.

His horses were his pride and joy. They were all western, and they were good at it. He loved to watch them and take care of them. But these were his six horses. For the time being, anyway. If he did breed his horses, he usually sold the foal once it became old enough. Sometimes he kept them and trained them, but usually they were sold by the age of three. The perks of being a breeder. He loved his job. The majority of the time he bred his own horses, but sometimes people needed him to breed their horses. Aaron glanced over to his stallion, Whiskey. The big brute was probably his favorite out of the six. He was friendly and proud. He pretty much led the herd. Troy was a good stallion, but he wasn't anything like Whiskey.
Out of his mares, however, he didn't truly have a favorite. They were all a handful and beautiful girls. Belle and Memory had some spunk in them, but with a little bit of coaxing, they could be gentle. Daisy and Harmony were sweethearts. They loved people and babies. Almost anyone could jump on the back of either of them, and they wouldn't mind. Aaron turned his attention to the girl in front of him. God, she was pretty. "All good," he said, with an almost laugh. He loved ladies, and this girl in front of him was flirting with ease. She must have good practice at it. "I'm not usually invisible," he said, "But I must be today." Aaron flashed a smile at the gorgeous girl. He could forgive her for ignoring him if she continued to talk to him like she was.
Besides his horses, his truck was his next pride and joy. He loved his truck. He cleaned the thing on a daily basis, especially after having it around his horses. They seemed to manage to kick dirt up onto everything around them, no matter where they were. "Very good point," he laughed. He hated Dodge vehicles. They were pointless and built to sit in someone's front lawn. He'd never own a dodge. Ford was his favorite, with Chevrolet following closely. Aaron took the women's hand, and was surprised by her handshake. "Wow. I mean, nice to meet you, Maddie," he said. She was tough, although her voice didn't seem to show it. It made him wonder for a second on what she did for a living that made her have to have a handshake like that. His dad had always told him to have a firm handshake, because it showed who you were. But he had never met a woman with a strong handshake like hers.
Aaron wasn't sure what about Paints attracted him, but he loved them. He loved the variety of colors and patterns they carried on their coats. They were gorgeous as they moved around the field. He nodded as Maddie talked to him. His gaze was focused on his mares again. "Yeah, just got in today. My house is full of boxes and my dogs," he said. His horses were his first priority. And they really needed to get out of the cramped trailer. It was a long way from Georgia. "How about you? How long you been here?" he asked, turning his attention back to the girl.

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean This wasn't at all how she had planned her day. No, instead this was much better and it was still pretty early in the day. Maddie glanced over at him when he said it was all good. It was okay on her part too. After all, she was talking to a smoking hot guy who had horses. She would continue to let the fact that he drove a Ford go, for now at least. She smiled and laughed a little when he said that he wasn't usually invisible, but that he must have been today. She bit her lip slightly, trying hard to behave, but she just couldn't take it anymore. "Well I think it was because you were leaning against that Ford," She said with a huge smile. "Or it was these sunglasses..." She flipped her sunglasses up a bit, her blue eyes peeking out a little at him and she shook her head, "Well, it wasn't the glasses..." She said with a laugh.
This situation was getting to be dangerous. There was a hot guy standing here in front of her and she had absolutely nothing to do for the rest of the day. Yeah, this was dangerous, there was no 'getting' about it. She looked over to Joker quietly before slipping her sunglasses back over her eyes. She watched the colt continue to play with the other horse and she looked back at Aaron as he spoke. He hated Dodges too. Oh boy, let the hating begin! She smiled before catching his next comment. Unfortunately she seemed to get that a lot but she could understand it. It wasn't something you'd expect from a smaller person, and from a young woman at that. "Sorry, that's kind of a habit from my job," She said with a soft smile. Why was she smiling so much? If she kept it up her cheeks were going to have muscles of their own.
She fallowed his eyes quietly as he looked over at his horses. They were good looking horses but they just weren't her thing and that was kind of a shame. She looked over at Aaron once more as he spoke and she laughed a little. "I know what that's like," She said and remembered the day her and David had moved into their house. The horses had arrived 5 minutes after they had unloaded all the boxes from the trucks. The dogs were running around the house exploring and all her and David could think about was the horses. Both had decided to have their horses shipped to stable instead of driving them themselves simply because it gave them a little more time to just breathe. Maddie glanced up at him again and she took a couple seconds to think. "I've been here a couple months already. I'd say this is my second month. Time has gone by so quickly it's hard to keep track," She said with a soft smile. It was true, everything here seemed to happen so much quicker than back home. She felt like she had only been here for two weeks but in reality, it had been two months. "So where are you from?"

It was Aaron's first day at CrossFire and he really did have a shit ton to get done. But once his horses were settled in, he could allow his house to be filled with boxes for just one more day. Or maybe, he could even convince the girl to help him out. He really could use a female touch to his home. His two dogs were all settled into a kennel outside with enough food, water and toys to entertain them for at least a few hours. He didn't buy a huge home, just a nice two bedroom home with a garage. Aaron didn't need a huge home. Really, he didn't even need the two bedroom he bought. It wasn't like he had anyone living with him, besides his dogs. Though, he could use it if his brother or sister came over to visit.
Aaron laughed as Maddie flipped up her sunglasses. "Can't be this beaut'," he said, gesturing to the truck behind him. "But, you have gorgeous eyes." It wasn't everyday you saw a brunette with blue eyes. Her eyes weren't the only thing gorgeous about her. She was beautiful in almost every way. He hadn't expected to come to Addison to meet a girl on his first day. Relationships hadn't really been Aaron's thing. He had Chloe, but she hadn't been the typical southern girl. She just wanted to spend her life in the city and Aaron preferred the south. But here in front of him was a girl who was already in Texas. He couldn't have lucked out more.
"Where do you work that you need such a strong handshake?" he questioned. He didn't mean to seem rude, but it honestly surprised him. Aaron was glad she hated Dodge too, they probably wouldn't work out very well if she preferred Dodge. He glanced over at his horses again. They really weren't interested in any other horse. Hopefully, they would get over themselves eventually. Aaron worked as a horse breeder in the town, amongst the few other breeders. He mostly only bred his own horses to sell their foals, but he didn't mind breeding other's horses as well.
He shook his head. "Moving sucks, " he said, "Especially by yourself." It would have been much easier to hire someone to do it for him, but he just didn't have that kind of money. "I understand that. Time flies when you're having fun," he joked. "But hopefully, not too much fun." Aaron flirted with the girl. She really was gorgeous. "I'm from Georgia, born and raised in the south," he said with a smile. "Yourself?"

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.” - James Dean Maddie smiled a bit when Aaron laughed and said that it couldn't be his truck. Even his laugh was attractive. Oh, this was not looking good for her at all. "Well it must be the truck, because it isn't me," She teased. She kind of paused for a moment when he said she had gorgeous eyes. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy the compliment, she just hadn't expected it. Her smile returned to her face within a second of her pause and she tried to think of something to say. She didn't want to go flirt crazy here but this was increasingly difficult to even speak without it sounded flirty. "Well thank you," She said with a sweet smile. Good, good, that was an improvement!
Maddie knew that starting something right now, such as a relationship, really wasn't the best of ideas. Sure, she had the time to commit but it was the actual committing that she ran into problems with. She never really liked being in a relationship, mostly because, believe it or not, she was always the one getting hurt. She was never the one to be unfaithful, which many people seemed to find shocking. No, instead she'd be the one who was cheated on and she could never honestly figure out why. Perhaps it was because she often allowed herself to be 'trophy'. She always had a reputation of being hard to get back home, so when she was interested in a guy, it seemed to turn into a huge ego boost and that's when things always hit the shitter like a bug on a windshield.
She glanced up at him from behind her sunglasses when he spoke and asked where she worked. "I'm a jockey and an occasional exercise rider. I do one of the few things some short people can excel at, unlike reaching things on high shelves," She said with a grin. Those damn kitchen shelves at her house always got her, but it didn't help that David would purposefully move things just out of her reach. Her eyes fallowed his for a moment as he looked at his horses. She found it slightly odd that they weren't really interested in all the new horses that were around them. Sure, they weren't really close enough to touch them, but they were still around. All of the racehorses she knew, even after being bumped from track to track, were still interested in the new neighbors.
Her eyes snapped back to him when he said that moving sucks and she nodded. "I agree. I don't mind the actual moving, but the whole unpacking thing, it sucks." Maddie narrowed her eyes behind her sunglasses with a smile when he flirted with her and she shook her head a little with a slight laugh. "I'm trying but it's becoming increasingly hard not to," She teased. Whoops.... That one just kind of slid under her radar. Crap. Oh well, try to move on. So he was from Georgia, okay, that wasn't helping her case any. She looked over at him again when he asked where she was from and she bit her lip a bit. She knew where this was going. She'd tell him she was from New York, not the city, and then he'd ask why she had moved out here to Texas and she'd have to find some bullshit excuse to tell him because you can't really tell someone you just met why you're currently a mess. That just wouldn't be a bomb of fairness to drop on some poor soul.
She had to say something, and maybe he wouldn't even ask, either way, she needed to speak before things got awkward. "I'm from New York, and not the city," She said with a soft smile. She wasn't sure why she always needed to specify that she wasn't from the city but if she could take a whack at it, it'd probably be because that tended to be the first thing people thought of when they though of New York. It was kind of like the rest of the state didn't exist.

He shook his head in disagreement, but didn't press the flirtatious argument any further. He loved his truck and hated it getting put down. Whatever spare time he really had went into working on or cleaning his truck. Besides his truck, Aaron loved flirting with girls. Or more so, he loved girls. He was a flirt, especially with girls he had just met. Being the true country boy he is, Aaron isn't the type of guy to cheat. Though, he also tends to avoid relationships. Mostly because the girls he dated only wanted him for his bad boy appeal. They never got any further to see his actual sweet side. It wasn't like he was a nerdy guy, but he could be caring when he wanted to. But because of those damn girls, he usually just didn't care. "You're welcome," he said. He wasn't expecting a 'thank you' at all, but it was better than some of the lame excuses girls come up with to pretend they're not vain. Sometimes just a simple 'thank you' was enough.
"Ahh, the racing lifestyle then. Don't know much about that profession, really. I just get called after the horses are done racing to stud them out," he said with a smile, "I'm a horse breeder." Sure, the girl in front of him was short, but she sure was gorgeous. "I can help you out with the high shelves," he said. Standing at just under 6', he never really had an issue with not being able to reach anything. Though, as she pointed out, there wasn't much that shorter people excelled in. Maybe midget stripping. That was a thing, right? Maddie wasn't short enough to be considered a midget, and even if she was, she was classier than a stripper would have to be. At least a stripper that actually got paid for it. She could be a private stripper for him if she wanted. He wouldn't mind at all. In fact, he'd probably enjoy it just a little too much.
Aaron's horses usually weren't interested in others. They never had been. It was the way he had raised them. It was rather strange, but they were a herd and they didn't need another horse to complete them. The horses tended to keep to themselves and it worked out. If they were actually introduced to another horse, then they would probably be interested. But in their respective pastures, they tended to ignore any other horse. He turned his attention back to the girl and nodded. "The packing too. But the unpacking is by far the worst," he agreed. He wasn't looking forward to going home to a house full of boxes. That was about to be at least a day wasted of doing nothing but taking care of things. His dogs would probably love it. They'd just tear up the boxes he had lying around.
Aaron laughed as she spoke. Fun was something he'd be able to have in Texas. In Georgia, it had been nothing but seriousness with the different shows he had to get ready for. His parents wanted him to be everything they weren't, and it was hard to live up to their expectations. "City life is no fun, anyhow. The country is where it's at. Even better down south," Aaron joked. He loved the south. He had been up north a few times, but it never quite felt right. Usually, it was either too cold or too wet. The southern weather was just amazing and perfect for the man. He couldn't blame anyone for moving down south from up north. It was better down here anyway.
