Adored in her older saddle, the one not used for showing the mare followed kindly and with great manners her rider. It didn't take long till they were out of the barn and walking side by side toward the trail paths.
Pulling her hair up into a high bun, she griped the horn and pulled herself up onto the saddle, moving her hip till she sat comfortably in it. Her mare gave a slight turn of her head before getting into work mood as Helen gave her a nudge to go onward. Together they went, the path was well ridden and worn out by countless riders before her.
Their pace was lightly, a slow going walk, Helen was simply riding in the cool winter afternoon to spend time with her darling mare Din. It was no secret, Helen's new job was taking up a lot of time, her adjusting to knew hours and trying to find an apartment, a place she didn't have to share with her mom's friend. Not to mention Maxine her border collie was missing her terribly back at her mom's place.
Helen was trying her hardest not to let the little pout of sadness worsen her mood and gave a little nudge for Din to speed up, pretending to run away from the dull mood. Together they came to the forks in the road, the directions and location noted by the little map posted. She paused for a moment and tired to make up her mind, to the half frozen lake? "Which way Din?" She said aloud, rubbing the neck of her mare. Winter was letting up, and that rang to Indie as a good time to go on the trails. She'd been training a lot with Captain Jack, and a nice day on the trails would do them both some good. So she groomed down the dark bay and put his bridle on, deciding to go bareback. She rode without a saddle a lot, jumping even. She trusted herself and Jack enough not to fall.
Still one not to push her luck too far, she pulled her helmet on and clipped it, leading her horse out of the stables, she led him towards the trails, alongside a pasture. She used the fence to mount up, and guided towards the trails. As always, she had a bag with her. Today she opted to leave her usual black messenger bag in her car, and had a backpack with her things instead, and left behind her laptop. No need for that on the trails. She still had the rest of her usual though. Her camcorder, her flip video camera for when she needs a quicker, easier take, notebooks to quickly note what she needs. A few other things too, just in case.
Starting at a walk, she opted to enjoy the landscape as they left the farm, breaking into the realm of nature. After a little though, her nut job of a horse began to grow antsy under her. It was a nice thing that he'd been so calm until now. She loosened her grip on the reins and let him into a trot, not to quick, but it seemed to be enough to occupy the squirrel in Jack's brain for the moment,
Sitting the trot easily, as she'd learned to with practice, Indie allowed herself to enjoy the trail, though still keeping Jack aware that she was fully alert of his actions, as she had to with this horse. It didn't take much to make him lose his mind, but she knew his tricks, and how to keep him relaxed. It was always a risk though.
Voices ahead on the trail made her pull to a walk, Jack tugging on the bit in protest to the slowing. One voice, actually, a girl she hadn't seen before, riding a blue roan, seeming puzzled by a fork in the trail. Indie had intentions of heading towards the lake, but this girl didn't seem to have a clue where to go. ”Need some help?” Indie's voice rang out, she kept her hands steady, but squeezed at the reins every few seconds to keep Jack's attention.

Her attention had been stolen by the thrashing in the bushes of a small animal, fox she assumed, Din gave a flick of her roan ears before taking a cautious step back. Helen leaned forward and gave her mare another warm and reassuring pat, her ears picking up on a new comer.
Turning to look toward her right, Helen caught the first glimpse of another rider. Backing Divine Nine up a few steps, Helen had given enough room for both horses and riders to be able to see each other's faces, instead of looking back or over one's shoulder. I guess mama's rule did rub off on me" Helen thought to herself, giving a pleasant and warm smile in greeting.
"I was wondering which trail to take, I haven't ridden these trails in years and I wasn't sure which one would be more beautiful during the winter." Helen spoke aloud her voice clear buy hidden was a faint clatter of her teeth, the cold gust of wind froze her side.
"I'm Helen Wilson by the way, I lived in Addison when I was younger just moved back a few months ago." Helen introduced herself and Din gave a flick of her ears, knowing she herself was introduced. "And this handful is Divine Nine, but everyone just calls her Din" Helen giggled softly, her olive eyes bright and playful. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,450,true] | [atrb=background, i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t456/Awengera/IndieMid_zps4c16545a.png] Jack tossed his head, Indie readjusting her seat, trying to keep the antsy horse still as the woman turned her horse to face them. Indie offered a smile, and Jack curiously strained his neck to sniff the blue roan – unsuccessfully, of course, seeming to forget his neck was only so long.
”Well, I'm headed over to the lake.” She said without missing a beat, not one to be at a loss in a conversation. ”I find that it's beautiful, but one to their own, I guess.” She said, a bright smile as she looked over the horse and rider in question.
”Pleasure to meet you, Helen!” She said, replacing the social convention of a hand shake with a wave, seeing as they were a little distance apart from each other. ”And you too, Din.” She directed her words towards the horse. Working at the animal shelter and being so used to finding herself surrounded only by creatures for entire days, talking to animals was no weird thing to Indie. She'd have a full on conversation with Jack or one of the animals at the shelter without thinking twice about it.
”Name's Indiana, but go ahead and call me Indie.” Her introduction rolled off her tongue, and her left hand gathered the reins as the right one dropped to pet Jack's shoulder, rewarding him for being so still for now. ”And this is Captain Jack Sparrow, but, you know, Captain, or Jack, or Sparrow.” She listed off his nicknames.
”I just moved here, not long ago. I wouldn't have minded growing up here though.” She smiled. Of course, they had moved here because of her sister's rehabilitation, this being the closest town to the center that had a good riding stables. That didn't really bother Indie though, the way that she grew up having to care for her mother, and then later her suicidal sister, had basically taught her to be strong about things like that.
