Shakespeare had always interested the girl. His fluent, flirtatious way with words. How he could create a tragedy that occurred within a week. Which is how her Knabstrup mare ended up with her name. Fair Verona. Or Juliet, which was the mare's barn name. At the age of five, the mare was pretty easy-going, but she wasn't quite trained in everything she needed to be. Mercy's other two horses were advanced in english, but Juliet just hadn't been trained as well as the others. Mercy just hadn't had enough time with the mare compared to the other two. The blonde walked into the mare's stall, and attached a lead to her halter and tied her up outside the door. Juliet stomped her foot impatiently, but stood still so Mercy could saddle her up. The girl traded the halter for the mare's bridle, and once she was finished, she led the mare to the outdoor arena already set up for jumps. Once inside the arena, Mercy mounted the horse with quick, fluent moves. She'd been riding for years. It was the one thing that distracted her from her love of boys. Not just one boy, many boys. She loved to flirt, lead guys on and sleep with them. The female version of a manwhore. Well, a whore, you could say. She didn't mind. She wasn't into committed relationships. Being with one person for the rest of her life just didn't suit her. Besides, being single also gave her the chance to be with girls if she'd like. And of course, she did. Girls didn't give her as much drama as the guys did. They liked sex just as much as she did, and they didn't care less if she called the next day or not. Flings were what Mercy had majored in. She loved having casual sex, and there wasn't anyone who could stop her. "Alright, Juliet, let's do this," Mercy encouraged the mare, leaning over her neck, loosening up the reins slightly. Juliet lurched forward into a canter, warming up around the jumps. They weren't ready to start the actual jumps yet, they needed to get into the groove of riding. Ryan walked towards the outdoor arena, Blaze in tow. A pretty blonde groom had taken pity on him and decided to help him tack the gelding up. Apparently he'd gotten the saddle and cinch right, but he had no idea where to start with the bridle. No matter, the blonde had been helpful and had done it for him. He doubted he could reproduce what she'd done if his life depended on it, but that was besides the point. Taking the tack off the Appendix gelding would be an adventure for later. His current adventure was trying to ride Blaze. He'd taken a few trail rides with his mother in his youth, but back then he'd always clung on the pommel of some sway-backed trail pony. Never a champion show horse, with a mind outside "follow the tail in front of me." His mother had always ridden Blaze, and she'd made it look so easy. And, apparently, you weren't supposed to hold the pommel of the saddle. Why make it so big and inviting if you weren't supposed to grab it for balance? It was safe to say the horse world baffled him.
But, there he was, walking to the outdoor arena with the gelding behind him. Thankfully, Blaze was a fairly calm, seasoned horse. When the pair got to the arena, Ryan was slightly dismayed to see another horse and rider already there warming up. The horse the girl was riding was unlike anything he'd ever seen before. It was spotted, like a Dalmatian. He hadn't even known horses could be another color besides black and brown. Ryan quietly lead the horse in through the gate, closing it behind them. Once they were in the middle of the ring and out of what he now saw was a female rider's way, Ryan put his left foot in the stirrup and mounted. It was a little awkward, but he hoped the girl hadn't noticed. Blaze, bless him, was being an angel. He stood quietly as Ryan picked up the reins (he'd dropped them as he was mounting), slender ears flicked back slightly.

Once the pair was warmed up, Mercy turned the mare towards the jumps. She started out with the basic, beginner jumps, things that almost anyone could get their horse over. But it was a warm-up, especially since they had a competition coming up soon, and the mare was mainly trained for dressage. Juliet could do anything the girl asked her too when it came to dressage, but when it came to jumps, it was a little more difficult. The mare just wasn't as advanced as the girl would like her to be. They eased over the jumps together, the horse following the girls cues quickly. Mercy smiled as they rounded over the last jump, and she looked around the arena. There was a man and a approaching the arenas, but she wasn't sure where they were headed just yet. She turned Juliet to face the opposite direction, and started to canter around the arena the other way. The pair needed to warm up, and get familiar with each other's movements and cues. It wasn't that Juliet was a new horse, she just hadn't been rode as recently as Mercy's other two. Mercy heard the gate open, but didn't notice the two she had seen earlier walk into the arena. She didn't care anyways. Especially if it was a guy. She slowed Juliet to a walk, and pointed her towards the beginner jumps again, and started to go through the pattern again. Sure, it wouldn't be the same pattern as the competition, but she'd be able to get more practice with the mare. Hopefully they'd do okay, at least. Neither one of them needed to have a losing score on their record, especially since this would be Juliet's first time in the intermediate level. Mercy cued the mare over the jumps, each of them responding to each other in different ways, but fluently and with perfect precision. The pair were definitely good for one another. Once they were over the last jump again, Mercy slowed Juliet to a walk and looked around through her arena. There was the man again, with his horse, but this time they were in the center of the arena. He didn't look like he fit on top of the horse very well. Like it'd been awhile since he'd rode. But he was cute, and to Mercy, that was all that mattered in her mind. She urged her Knabstrup to a trot and headed over to him. Juliet usually got along with other horses, so Mercy wasn't too worried about her overreacting to being with an unfamiliar horse. "Hi!" Mercy spoke, with just a little bit too much enthusiasm. She smiled softly at him, to try to tone down her voice. She wasn't usually this hyper, but it was probably from the adrenaline of being back on Juliet. It'd been way too long for her. "I'm Mercy," she introduced herself, but didn't offer her hand, because she didn't want to get too close to the pair, in case the other horse wasn't as stable as Juliet. Mercy hoped not, though, because the man didn't look like he'd be able to handle a headstrong horse very well.[/ul] OUTFIT-- [link.]HORSE-- FAIR VERONANOTES-- (: TAGGED-- ryan jeffery archer. Ryan watched the other two for a while as he walked Blaze around, being sure to keep out of the way. The spotted horse was strangely beautiful, and as far as he could tell, the girl riding it was skilled. They leaped the jumps like they were nothing, and Ryan wondered what that felt like. His mother hadn't jumped as far as he could remember. She'd done something called "western pleasure" with Blaze, and some barrel racing too. Ryan wasn't really sure what western pleasure entailed, but he already knew he wouldn't be trying it any time soon. I really should sign up for lessons... He thought to himself idly, watching the girl and her Dalmatian horse fly over another few jumps. It really was entrancing to watch someone ride so well. But, then again, he had no idea what a good rider really looked like on a horse, so she could be terrible and he would have had no idea. But something told him she wasn't terrible at all, and so he was content to watch. Who knew? Maybe he could pick up some pointers. (Probably not though, but he could dream.)
Before he knew what was happening, the spotted horse was running toward him and Blaze. Had she lost control of the horse somehow? He didn't know. Ryan wasn't normally one to panic, but horses were pretty alien to him. He was about to jump ship before the girl pulled neatly near him, in complete control of her horse. Ryan felt a rush of heat creep up his neck, coloring his face pink with a slight blush. He wasn't used to being awkward around women, especially pretty ones like the blonde he was now face to face with. Luckily, she seemed cheerful and hopefully hadn't noticed his moment of fear. "Hi!" She exclaimed to him, with a smile. He nodded and smiled back, not quite trusting himself to speak just yet, since his heart was still pounding. She introduced herself as Mercy. He noted gratefully that she kept her horse what he assumed was a safe distance away from Blaze. The gelding was calm around him, but Ryan wasn't sure about other horses. He made a mental note to read up on that kind of stuff. "I'm Ryan," he told her, relieved his was voice steady. Unlike his legs, which he was pretty sure were shaking. Blaze tossed his head, ears pricked in a friendly manner at the spotted mare. At least one of them hadn't forgotten how to flirt.

Juliet nickered softly to the other horse, flicking her ears towards him, happily. Mercy watched the horses, with a feeling they'd be just fine around each other. Neither one of them was jumpy or acting nervous. Well, the horses that was. Ryan, as the man had introduced himself, just didn't seem comfortable sitting on the horse. He looked awkward, and maybe a little afraid of being on top of the big animal. Mercy had been riding horses her entire life, competing in shows and riding just for pleasure. Horses and boys were the center of her life. She was a flirt, to put it nicely. She loved to be around guys; flirting with them, sleeping with them, the whole ordeal. Which made relationships harder for her, and why she usually avoided them. Mercy nudged Juliet's side, and started to trot around the arena again, switching gaits as they moved around the arena with ease. She was showing off. She wanted him to watch her every move, as the pair moved around the arena. After a couple times around, Mercy moved back towards the center and looked at Ryan. "Sorry, I have to warm her up," she apologized, giving him a half-smile. She was lying, at least to some extent, but she didn't care. He'd believe her, or at least she hoped he would. He was a cute guy, sitting on top of a gorgeous horse. Her two favorite things. Mercy leaned forward and patted the side of Juliet's neck, rewarding the mare. "She can get restless." Another lie fell from her lips. She could lie with ease, especially when it came to talking to guys. [/ul] OUTFIT-- [link.]HORSE-- FAIR VERONANOTES-- I have no muse today. Sorry this post sucks!
