PLACE YOUR HAND IN MINE, I'LL LEAVE WHEN I WANNA. - - - - - - - - - - - TAGGED: open?! WORDS: #1020 STATUS: complete the day was cold and the wind harsh. the curtains blew in the wind to reveal a stretch of grass covered in frost. i blew out soft;y and saw the breath reel into the air. 'great, great great great.' i muttered to myself. 'just great.' i hauled out of bed and dragged myself over to the wardrobe. i didn't hesitate before pulling my jodhpurs and top out. it was another day in addison at crossfire farms, nothing different. i'd been here almost a week and things were going quite well. but i knew today was going to be a challenge as i was going to ride stewi for the first time at crossfire. stewi always took ages to settle in before he settled down and didn't try to nip or kick you. i laughed at my thoughts. stewi was stewi. tryign to warm up, i leapt into the shower and let the steaming water trickle down my skin. i wasn't bothered to wash my hair, i'd wash it after riding when it would actually smell. instead, i pulled it into a topknot and reached for the soap. but i didn't get that far before i heard the phone ringing. i groaned and wondered whether i should answer it or not bother. as the rings stopped, i shrugged it off and reached for the soap again. when i was just picking up the container, the shrill ring began again. i climbed out of the shower and ran into the hallway to grab the phone. i regretted it as soon as i picked it up. just some stupid person trying to sell something. thoroughly annoyed, i went back to my shower but didn't find the same joy. i was done in another minute or so and was half changed before the phone rang, again! i ignored it, telling myself it would be some other cold call. considering the phone was still ringing when i was about to have breakfast, i realised it might be important. i trailed into the hall once more and picked the phone up. i grinned and put the phone down. but i needed to hurry, i was going to be late. i was glad that i'd chosen a flat so near to the stables and got outside the barn in just a few minutes. because i'd given extra time to get ready, i still had forty five minutes to tack up stewi. i greeted the dapple grey and tickled his muzzle. he whinnied in reply and i laughed out loud. i shut up as a few people in the barn were giving me weird looks. i grabbed a few brushes and started to run the body brush over his tummy. luckily for me, someone had brought him in last night so he wasn't that muddy. i was done in a few minutes and began on his mane. stewi flinched and shook his head at me, swishing his tail. i ignored this, he had a few bad ways. after a few mishaps with my beautiful beast, i managed to sling the tack on and get him completely ready and all smart. i grabbed my hat and mounted up, opening the stable door while on stewi. we trotted leisurely out of the barn and towards the arena. i glanced at my watch. we were ten minutes early. the rider came out and smiled at me. i returned the smile before entering the ring. i glanced at the course of jumps and felt extremely grateful. the last rider had left all of their jump course out. i led stewi to the track and trotted him round, keeping the leg on. stewi was a bit lazy sometimes. i changed the rein and flicked him into canter. he refused so i kept him in trot and at the next corner asked for canter. he refused again. i kept persisting and when he wasn't answering put the whip on behind my leg. he sprung forward so quickly, that i was flung into the air and unseated for a moment. but i used my reins to re seat myself and relax. i changed the rein in canter and after a few laps led stewi steadily to a jump. he did the norm. stewi crawled up to the jump, and one stride away from it, propelled to top speed. i was ready for this and launched into the air with him. i smiled, during his career, during over 300 show jumping competitions, stewi had knocked down around 20 poles. his jumping technique definitely worked but i needed to train him to jump properly. he didn't need much encouragement to go around the rest of the course. i was very surprised at the height of the jumps considering how tall the previous riders pony was. but then again, stewi was a 14 hander and jumped at least 5 foot, which was pretty good. actually, it was amazingly good. after a quick few goes round the course. i chilled him out and walked around for a few minutes. i glanced at my watch. i'd only been in the arena 20 minutes and i had plenty left to do. i would probably create a jump off course and time myself to practise. that was one thing stewi and i needed to practise at, jump offs. stewi panicked in them and never responded to me. he just charged at jumps and took them full on speed. it was in these jump offs that most of his poles had been knocked off, due to brutal force when he went so fast over the jumps and just knocking the poles sent then spinning in the air. i trotted him forward and prepared for the first timed round with my pony. NOTES: not much. just that this is a bit crappy and not that great [/style] |
