The sheet of rain pouring down on Kit Blackwater's truck didn't make it easy for the young woman to find her new job. It was pouring and she was freezing- she'd figured it'd be warm in Texas and hadn't packed many warm clothes. Taking one hand off the wheel, she held her fingers up to the heating vents and struggled to see through the downpour. Her eyes darted wildly as she tried to spot the sign for the animal shelter. Finally spotting one for the veterinary office next to it, Kit let out a relieved sigh. Flipping on her blinker and turning into the drive, Kit's eyes widened slightly. The building was huge compared to the shelter's in New York City. Parking her old Chevy, Kit took a deep breath to settle her nerves before opening the door.
The rain was deafening and she quickly shut the door and ran to the main entrance. Kit's long sleeved black shirt was plastered to her skin and her hair was weighed down with water just from the sprint inside. Cautiously opening the door, Kit's amber eyes glowed. The building was quite nice, not nearly what she'd seen back in the city. Not seeing anyone in the main office, she spotted a pitbull mix puppy and bent down to coo to her. "Hi pretty baby," Kit smiled. She had a soft spot for pits, and this little girl was adorable. With a considering look, she stood back up, giving the puppy a warm smile.
Kit jumped when she felt a hand on her back, but it was one of the women who worked there. After talking for a moment, Kit was told that she would be waiting for a girl named Indie to show her around. Gently chewing on her plump bottom lip, Kit gazed around the shelter, her excitement glowing in her eyes.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,450,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t456/Awengera/IndieTableMid_zpsa78d6709.png] Things were a bit hectic, as they attempted to get ready for the day, because it was pouring so much outside, and one of the kennel run shelters so the dogs could go outside was broken, so they had to let that dog inside while they cleaned up her cage, because she was one of the ones who would always try to be in the way. The pup had managed to escape her leash and slip into the main lobby, while Indie’s arms had been full with another dog. Her job wasn’t dog kennel clean up today, she got an exception from the normal job rotations to show the new girl the basics of everything, but until the newcomer was here, she was helping out.
She finally got the other dogs all situated in their kennels, although she’d only managed to clean one, and the small, dirty pile of dog blankets sat in the corner. The rows and rows of dog kennels that still need to be cleaned held canines barking demandingly for their breakfast. After they ate they’d have to be let into their outdoor runs, adjoining to the kennels, so their little places can be cleaned up.
She quickly stood up and walked back in to the main lobby, relieved to see the pit-bull mix puppy happily greeting the woman, who had to be the girl she’s waiting for, tapping her shoulder gently. ”Kit, is it?” She says, turning and picking up the puppy, although she’s heavy. ”Little girl got out. Come with me.” She says, walking towards the swinging door marked ‘dogs’ and pushing through it with her hip, as the dog writhed excitedly in her arms, wanting to play with Kit.
She walked to the pup’s kennel, the only one she’d gotten clean, and placed her in, rubbing her ears before shutting the gate. ”Welcome to Addison Animal Shelter!” She says brightly, turning to Kit. ”I guess I’ll show you about the dogs first?” She says, looking around the large room, with its concrete floors, and ceiling-high kennels side-by-side, long but only a few feet wide, with doggy beds in each, and water bowls attached to the floor in a corner.
”First off, we rotate between jobs, there’s a whiteboard in the lobby that you can see what you have each day, though you aren’t up yet.” She says, walking out of the dog kennels, deciding to show her after. ”Desk work, cat clean and feeding, dog clean and feeding. Those are the main jobs, sometimes there will be something else, like mine today says to show you the ropes.” She says, walking to the whiteboard where jobs for the day are listed, but right below the board is a paper with the plans for the next few weeks, though those are loose and can easily be changed if someone calls in sick or for any reason can’t do a certain job, or if a less common job, like showing a new employee around, came up.

Jumping slightly at a tap on her shoulder, Kit turned her eyes towards the pretty girl standing behind her. A brilliant smile split her face as she stood, looking longingly at the puppy. It wasn't often animals stood out to her, but there was something special about the little pitbull mix. Watching the other girl put the puppy away, Kit took a deep breath and followed her to the office.
As the petite girl explained the different jobs at the shelter, Kit smiled. Easily tugging her long, dark hair into a messy ponytail, she quickly studied the schedule. Charts had always been something easy for her to remember. Turning easily toward the girl, Kit let out a brilliant smile. "Indiana's a cute name. It fits you."
