Kalina snuggled deeper into Mason's shoulder. She closed her eyes as he rested his chin on the top of her head. The warm familiarity of him was making her feel truly happy. A big, goofy smile was plastered on her lips as he spoke, praying that what he said was true. She knew she couldn't let her feelings for him overwhelm her, not now. Not when it was like starting over.
Watching the horses bounding in the pasture, Kalina let herself fall into a contented doze. She wasn't quite asleep, but content enough to completely relax against Mason. The wounds on her arms screamed in protest as the arm of her hoodie was pulled tight, and she winced, fixing it discreetly. That was the last thing she needed him to know, that she'd let her depression get the better of her while he was gone. She was terrified it would push him away.
"Hey Ca-Mason?" Kalina stirred in the crook of his arm. Her baby blues shimmered as she looked into his eyes, her heart beating wildly in her chest. His hazel eyes had always reminded her of the eyes of wild mustangs, and a small smile pulled up the corners of her mouth. She gently kissed his cheek, resting her forehead there for a moment before directing her attention to her question. "Maybe one night soon, you can stop by my apartment for a bit? We can have an all day movie marathon like we used to?" A brilliant smile lit up Kalina's eyes as she watched him hopefully.

While this felt right, it felt strange. He hadn't expected this to happen, not ever. He didn't expect to ever see her again. But he couldn't let anything from the past get in the way. He wasn't even the same person anymore. Different name. Different town. Different life. Different past. Just the same face. There was a huge different in that, and he had to accept that. The very fact that he had even let her get close to him like this was putting them both in danger. But he felt the walls around slowly crumbling down, and that was a worth while change.
Maybe I won't have to pretend anymore...
But he knew that wasn't possible. He would always have to pretend. He liked the feeling of her leaning against him though. She was wearing his sweatshirt. It was a bit cold out, however, but he was used to Addison's winters now. For being in the south it got rather cold. He hadn't expected that, really, when he first came here, but he was used to it. He didn't really care much anymore. He was the kind of guy who would wear basketball shorts and a tee shirt to go mess with his horses in the snow.
"Yeah?" He replied, glancing over at her. He winced slightly when she almost mentioned the dreaded c word. His eyes closed briefly when she kissed his cheek, making him smile and chuckle slightly. "That sounds wonderful." He leaned his head against her and pulled her into him a little bit more. "Just say the time and day and I will be there."
END THREAD.
