rocket stopped for the thousandth time along the snowy path, taking in every possible smell he could while he was outside, filing it away in his doggie brain. behind her thick green scarf, spencer mumbled to herself and stopped, taking the moment to look around. she'd never seen so much snow in one place in her life. the trees were completely bare with frost replacing the leaves. despite how harsh the wind could get, winter was quite beautiful. suddenly spencer became aware of how cold she really was and she shivered, pulling her hands into the sleeves of her jacket while still holding onto the leash. she looked down at her little dog who was still sniffing a specific area beside a tree. must be a popular pee spot. "oookay rocket, let's go," spencer encouraged, walking a couple steps forward and tugging on his harness.
the shiba over zealously ran forward, somehow - despite his light weight - pulled spencer off balance and caused her to stumble forward, catching her foot on the only patch of ice around. not today, please not today she thought as she attempted to gather her footing. rocket spun around and watched as his owner fell to her hands and knees. oohh you fell his eyes seemed to say, completely unaware that it was his own doing.
spencer groaned and looked up at her dog, whose demeanour had changed from slightly worried to excited that he was being paid attention to. his tail began to shake and he started to pant, smiling. "why does it seem like my pets want to kill me or injure me?" she asked herself, crawling away from the patch of ice and using a tree to pull herself up. she somehow managed not to smash her kneecaps, but they ached horribly. she brushed the snow off her jeans and looked around to see if anyone else had seen her graceful fall. she was only slightly clumsy, but here in america during the winter, it seemed to be completely magnified. this is why she was always on a horse. her own legs and feet often let her down, but a horse rarely did.
rocket continued to look at his owner for another minute before turning around and going back to sniffing the snow, pushing it around with his nose to get deeper to the ground below it. spencer continued to lean against the tree, her arm hanging loose to let rocket walk a little farther. her knees were killing her, she did not feel like taking the chance of falling again at the moment.
