Joshua, or Mordecai as he's more commonly called, is a pretty sick and twisted individual. He likes watching pain and suffering, hence why he's been at war in the special forces for the best part of a year. In short, Morde is a war addict. There's nothing he loves more than being in danger, fighting and watching people die. Physical pain isn't the only type that he likes to see or inflict; he's very good at manipulating people and getting under their skin, forcing them to give him the reaction that he wants. He is totally unemotional himself, and he cares very little for the people around him. Of course, if the people in his unit need help while they're fighting, he'll give it. However, he often demands things in return for his 'good deed'. Nothing is ever fixed with Mordecai. One day he'll be friendly and the next he'll be manipulating or blackmailing you into doing what he wants. Women are nothing but objects to him, even though he serves with Jai and a couple of others. They provide a means of entertainment, but little more. He doesn't have a problem with hitting people, women included. In fact, Mordecai can be violently possessive, especially over women he views as his property, and will go to extremes to 'keep' them.
While he can be cold and calculating, Morde often goes through phases where he is rash and impulsive. Reason and logic are pointless in times like these, and this is the time he's most dangerous. Where Jai prefers knives, Mordecai will always choose guns. He has a sick fascination with pain and blood, and resents it when people prevent him from getting hurt, effectively stopping him from getting the rush of adrenaline that follows. Whatever mood he's in, the fact still remains that he has no sense of loyalty whatsoever. He'll side with whoever has the most money and the biggest guns, even if it means fighting against people that he knows.

Mordecai has dark hair and dark eyes, presumably from his family's Italian descent. He stands at about 6'3", and is fairly muscular from all the training and the fighting. Like Jai, he has a lot of scars all over him, but they are nowhere near as extensive as hers. He's tanned from the heat in the Middle East, and from growing up in Florida. All in all, he's a very typical looking second generation American-Italian.

Mordecai's father was in the army long before his son was born. As a young child, Joshua was therefore surrounded by the ideas of guns, war and soldiers. Their family was rich enough that his father wasn't required to work in order to support them financially, but, like his son would soon be too, he was a war addict. While his father was away, Morde attended a nice private school for the more upper-class children in his area, despite him having little to no interest in academia. Even as a child, he was a bully, enjoying the power that pain gave him over others. The only reason he was kept at the school was because his parents paid off the principal in order to allow their son to stay.
Not long after he turned nine, his father was killed in action. Never having been very close to him, Mordecai didn't mourn alongside his mother, as his father had never shown much interest in him. Still though, the idea of being a soldier continued to appeal to him as he grew up. As a sixteen year old, Joshua decided he was done with school, and so dropped out to join the army instead. For his mother, it was a relief in the sense that she hoped it would knock some discipline into him. Not unlike Jaiyana, Morde started training as a regular soldier, before being funnelled into the more specialised areas of the army. Even before he met Jai, Mordecai resented her, as she was given a place in a special forces unit while he was refused. At the time, Josh was 23, whilst Jai was only 20 and had only been in the army for two years.
His father and the head of the unit, Flyncher, had been friends for many years, and Morde had been hoping to serve under him in order to receive special treatment. However, Flyncher refused to take him on, choosing the Palestinian instead. He had been the deciding voice in bringing Jai into the army, and so Mordecai became convinced Jai being chosen over him was an act of favouritism. Three years later, Flyncher was killed while their unit was at war. In that time, Morde had heard a lot more than he would have liked about Jai, who was proving to be worth the controversy her past had brought. Morde was offered a place in the unit after Flyncher's death, and accepted only to find himself serving under Jaiyana, the new head of the unit. Josh had never been the type to take orders, not least from women, and over the past three years has begun to resent her threefold. However, he kept his place in the unit because it gave him a way to feed his growing addiction to the pain and suffering war brought. Now on leave from the war, Mordecai is headed to Addison for extra training from Jai, to find something to amuse him in the meantime, and also to settle old scores.
